i guess that blink at the end have different meanings in different cultures. In our culture it has two meanings. One is "I love you" and the other is "Hi".
And the computer responded on the side. It didn't die, it just transferred itself. They'll always be together.

Was expecting a scene where he finds his family again, but him leaving the city was losing another family. So I understand the ending. What a game!!
I'm sad to tell you that the game clearly showing us the cat are living around the bunker city, the cat finally going outside didn't mean anything more then telling us "the cat are now finally free he's outside now and he will go back to his family"
@@I_Dont_Believe_In_Salad hopefully the other cats didn't get squashed when the roof opened up, I imagine the area the cats were living at the start is where the roof goes back into
@@nikolaidemorley1878 I don't think thats the case, judging by at the start of the game the cats seems to hangout outside of the hatch, having a pit that leads to sewer zone from the outside bunker is kinda odd design for a bunker because it let anything inside the bunker by accident like the cat for example.
The scene where he lost his family and fell down broke my hearth i need him to find his family...

Something about that moment being the last time a human and cat interact together was so moving. The way the robots missed humans. I think it was a lovely way of showing that the cats will miss the humans too.

For the sequel: The Cat will eventually (with the help maybe of a new robot companion) find a Human..somewhere...and then all 3 (The cat,the robot and the human) will begin to search for the truth about how humanity nearly went to extinction and the game ends with them finding a Human settlement somewhere or something

If the humans are died because of the plague and then it got replaced by the robots, how do the cats still exist and okay? Or maybe the plague only kill the humans?
"You were my friend, the very best i could have asked for" b12 was My favorite character, he suffered a lot and besides that he sacrificed itself for everyone, the true hero of the game.
There's a theory I have, B-12 may have not died because at the end. you see those electrical boxes light up indicating that he might have cheated death. Remember the sewers also how b-12 awoken couple minutes later.

Can't we just love the fact that for once the robots don't hate humans but are in fact grieving their extinction by imitating their culture, I found this so fricking cute. Like how they took care of the plants even though they don't need it just because it's what the humans would have wanted

Tbh there are no evil entities in this except maybe the robot that betrayed the cat. The sentinels aren't sentient, just programmed to keep citizens safe but went overboard. The parasitic Zurks were created to reprocess waste materials but ended up malfunctioning and attacking everything else. The trash dumped into the slums was expected to be processed and recycled, the midtown robots didn't know that it just piled up.

This game is proof why single player games still have hope on good storytelling
gow, spiderman, wolverine? those are upcoming games and they will definitely have good storytelling. Although they are playstation exclusives so it isn't surprising.

Something about the way you can walk around the empty room afterwards makes it more gut-wrenching. You have to decide when to leave the body of your friend. Then the final scene is cut from a distance, as the cat has to leave you, the viewer, now too. It really feels like a hollow victory.
I felt so bad going to the outside leaving B-12 lifeless drone on the floor there, alone
For real! This game is so good... It's like a funny and crazy journey where you know good friends, had good times with them and then you have to go back home and leave it all behind.

Also, when B-12 died, you can hear the way he meows sounds like he's crying like he said: "B-12!"
True 😭 game was tortuous for me so I expected more happiness at the end
I cried and I'm still going to cry cause how powerful the goodbye is...The cat may not have any lines but....GOD!! The actions and how they present the Cat curling up next to their best friend's robotic corpse....
Also the last of the human race died with b-12...very powerful ending to this game.

12:02 They even included a sniffing of fresh air. My cats also like to do this. I like how developers has all small details covered. It completes the game. Also the sound and atmosphere is amazing. It makes me want to go outside and just walk around nature aimlessly...

This game is one of the best depiction of "it's about the journey, not the destination".
What matters most isn't the outside. It's the bots we meet along the way, and their selflessness. That's why the ending has the cat looking back.
9:42 this whole part where the robots see the daylight for the first time especially Momo and Clementine is just so beautiful and even though they're expressionless at the sight of the sky you just know they're so surprised and happy

Dude.... I did not expect to tear up finishing this game. I'm a 26 year old man, and I had no idea the impact B-12 would have on me along with clem and the rest.... A new respect for indie games. They nailed this one on the head 👏🏼 great Job Annapuuuuuuurrrna interactive!!! you are now on my radar! 🎮

Notice how the monitors flicker at the end? Maybe, and hopefully, a part of B-12 is still somewhere in the network out there. The ending had me tearing up cause it was just so sad. At the end when the cat looked back from where it came, then back out into the distance, the cat might’ve been deciding “do I stay or go?” It’s such a good game with so many hidden details. Definitely worth the wait!
I don't think staying was an option since the city didn't really have any food sources for him.
I also think B-12 is running through the systems somewhere. He was able to transfer himself to a robot... maybe he can move his memory forward to other platforms either.
@@carloswilker1607 I mean at the start of the game he was travelling through signs and lights to lead the cat to him. It’s relieving knowing it’s a very high possibility that flash at the end was indeed B-12
There also a mystery. Why does the security bot deactivate? Imo the reason is that Scientist being in the main frame deactivate the bots himself to no longer prohibiting the midtown citizens.
"should I stay or should I go" always reminds me of far cry 4
I was sobbing at the end. Like, full on crying as if I lost something/one. I don't know how I could've gotten such a bond with a cat and it's robot. And, to mention, the long blink at the end represents love/affection to the player. Cats give affection by blinking. I'm crying more rn.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who cried so hard I couldn't stop even during the credits 😭 B-12's final words and the kitty curling up next to him was heartbreaking
fun fact: a long and slow blink from a cat is showing affection/love. the cat is showing it's thanks and love for B-12
I always thought that, but some people think he’s also acknowledging the player. It’s like he’s saying “thanks for keeping me safe on this journey. I love you.”
The purring is also, though seems puzzling at first, not necessarily because happy but trying to heal B12.

I had a cat name Sunny and he's exact replica of this cat. I am actually crying as I play this because it reminds me of him, I really miss him and seeing him going outside its like he's saying goodbye to me and it's like telling me he'll be okay. Damn I miss that sweet cat of mine... 10/10 for this game tbh..

We need more games like this i found it refreshing to have a game without online or micro transaction where the game just has a good story i felt sad losing the little drone friend i hoped you could pick him up and take him outside stil

refreshing is exactly how I described this as well, it just felt so new and fun. I'm looking at all my other games like they are nothing now xD

It made me cry, I know that when the kitten came out, he went looking for his family and I'm sure he found them, if we hope they add more things, maybe we'll see how he reunites with his family

I’m super emotional when it comes to cats, so I can’t watch the start of the game without crying
They hinted at something at the very end there.. When the ending played, to the left side of the screen power suddenly surged thru the screens and my controller started to shake. Maybe B12 is just lost in the system once again?
If it makes you feel better, a collectible states the width of the city at around 450m. That's pretty small and not unheard-of as a territorial range for cats.

Not gonna lie, I’m not an emotional person I’m often asked if I’m mad lol but got damn did this game tug the heart strings. Especially that first scene, although he lost his family in the beginning and had to leave the one he eventually made, I was still hoping Murtaugh would see his cat family again.

I feel the same way. I didn’t cry, but I did salute to him and let Murtaugh lay there for a bit. I loved it when they worked together though, especially in the sewers.
Why this game resonates so strongly with all of us is seeing the very real emotions. No overdone drama. We see a grieving cat mourning the loss of it's friend just like a real animal that might lie on it's owners grave. Just beautiful in every sense of the word
I can't believe this... The ending made this grown man cry, and I pride myself in not being emotional...
Being a cat owner makes this hit home harder.

Great ending. I just wish we got to see more of the outside world. I was curious about how everything is up there. Wish we could have explored it a little.
Maybe they leaved it for the sequel or a dlc where you explore outside and find your family.

I mean, from what little we see of it and from other context clues. Small mammels like cats are around, that implies animals like rats, weasles, birds and other small fauna are present and sustain a large population for at the very least 400 years. That and the fact we see greenery past the entrance and greenery where the game started which obviously had sunlight too. We can assume the outside world is fully lush and filled with animal life. Even if larger mammels like elephants, cows and horses may be extinct. Give it a millennium or two and large herbivores and carnivores will evolve to refill the evolutionary niche.

That line really broke me because he knew he wouldn't survive opening the city but he always wanted to see it through with us.
Beautiful ending, and yes I shed a tear. The fact that the kitties will most likely embrace the robots and vice versa to further learn humanity is just beautiful. And B-12 being the GOAT...how about we see a sequel with some coop? Portal 2 showed puzzle coop games have a place. Carry the torch Stray!

@@feeblemonster8174 I'll refer to the Portal & Portal 2 analogy since we can have the best of both worlds. Especially here as it would add a lot of variety to the puzzle element. Maybe even a side story showing what the other cats are up to before they (hopefully) reunite.

Man, it's clear that a lot of the commenters here have just watched the first scene where the stray is separated from its family, and have skipped to the end hoping for an instant feelgood scene of the cats reuniting, and are disappointed with what the ending really is.
If you haven't played the game, the vast majority of it is set in a dark, dingy, wet, neon-lit environment full of things trying to kill the cat, as well as cool robots trying to help the cat.
The end showing the cat fully escaping from the danger of that city and getting back up to greenery, sunlight, and nature is more than enough for anyone to draw their own conclusion that the cats will reunite.
You can tell if the comments are written by those who skipped or those who actually played the game on if they mention B-12 dying.
I played the entire game and I still feel disappointed with the end I do not have closure about the Cats family
i played the game, b12 dying was indeed one of the most sad scenes, but, the cat, going out, seeing the light, openning his eyes and breathing, it´s just, so calming, you can feel that he´s happy, he´s free and is where he belongs, nature
@@ehocodogno Yeah, B-12 saying his goodbyes and then doing the needful, followed by the cat curling up beside the dead drone, was a solid gut shot.

The cat would easily be able to find its family, although not lions they are fantastic at sniffing out scents. Defiantly a great game and don’t worry the cat defiantly finds its way back to its family

Man that ending really knows how to pull at the heart strings all the way up to those slow blinks from the cat.
I hope everyone knows that b12 is alive. They don’t randomly show a flicker as the final frame of the game. There’s significance since it appears right as stray is free. Obviously stray can find it’s buddies who were only separated a few hours prior

I also think b12 is the one de-activate the security bots to save Clementine at the door opening scene.
Didn't think about this. The whole adventure may have lasted about 20hours (~the cat fell during daylight and when the doors open it was about 1pm judging on shadows and stuff)
I just think there's a second scientist who put it's soul on the internet or smth in the very first scene we got a lamp blinking and screen showing the cat where to heading and alsong the CCTV movement like it saying yes movement, I don't think that's B12 hence she didn't remember anything when she came out and surprised to see a cat and also we actually see two device that looks like a huma portal we see in the first room and there's another one in the tree house after you past the sewers
10 out of 10. This game gave me everything I wanted and more. Will definitely be 100% down the line.
This game was a work of art. The story being bookended by loss is so painful to me. The exploring of what humanity is and what it will leave behind and the criticism of how we treat each other and ultimately drag everyone down collectively... The absolute joy of simple moments and mischief...
There is an achievement for sleeping for an hour and I only did it at the end with B-12. I always choose to stay with B-12 instead of watching the city open up. It just feels right.
I think B12 didn't die, i think it actually uploaded his mind into the whole system, i guess that would explain the centinels going off and the screens turning on at the very end.

Hmm, well, aside from SOMA, in this game robots seem to be able to change boddies to another, so eventually B-12 would contact with someone and ask for help to find anit body or create one.
@@nickj2805 I thought in SOMA there is a scene where you change bodies? Maybe I'm remembering wrong its been quite awhile :)
@@kadey as i said, it doesn't work like soma, you don't "copy and paste", you "move". In SOMA it's never explained why you would have to copy your conciousness instead of just moving it to avoid leaving your previous version alone, it's just like that, i mean, being in the year 2100+ and not being able to move yourslef instead of copying it is just lame, it is simply a writing move to generate that regret and moral tension(script convenience). I'm not saying it's bad, in fact it makes Soma's plot much heavier, but if we took into account the possibilities realistically, it wouldn't be necessary to do that.
Anyway, a very interesting fact that i can give to you is that, when you cut-copy or move/transfer something in any kind of device to another, the system doesn't just move it, it copy and paste and then deletes the "original", but in terms of human minds and conciousness i think that would be better instead of just leaving the "original" left behind.
So it's pretty close to soma but not exactly, anyway we don't know how tech works in Stray, maybe the systems actually do move things instead of copy and cut.
@@nickj2805 Thanks for the reply, that makes total sense. I knew about the copy and pasting thing but it honestly it never even occurred to me until you mentioned it. Maybe we'll find out how it works in Stray or maybe we'll be left with the mystery :o
Everytime B-12 fall in the game. You are always able to pick it up and run with it. During the sewer, captured and etc. During the last scene when B-12 fall down, i was expecting we can still pick it up but instead we just lay next to it and boy did that broke my heart.
I just completed this game in 5 hours over the course of a couple of days. It’s one of those games that sticks with you after the credits roll. I can imagine this games story will stick with me the same way I think about Red Dead Redemption and Ghost of Tsushima and God of War. Truly a masterpiece
I teared up inside after finishing this game 😭. Poor guy has gone thorugh a lot, I wanna hug him and cuddle him so bad 😭❤️

They need to make a DLC about:
-How the cat meets his friends / family again in outside world
-How B-12's life looked like when he was a human and why he lost his memory
-The reunion of Momo, Btalzar (I guess that's his name, you know the robot which meditate in Antvillage) and Clementine as the robots who want to explore Outside so badly. The Zurks and Sentinels are dead so they don't need to worry anymore.
If Seamus can reunite with his dad, The Doc, why can't they?

Ese final con los robots viendo hacia el cielo me puso la piel de gallina (en especial ver a Guardian, él fue el primer robot con quién el gatito interactuó y se me hizo un gran detalle).

Just my assumption and thinking too far into this, but the cat looks at the camera and slow blinks, its almost like saying "I love you" to the camera - to the player, a thank you from developers if you will. Cat slow blinking is basically their expression of love.
A legit GOTY contender for this great great presentation, an unique and intuitive cat gameplay, beautiful art direction, minimalist yet understandable story, and insanely relaxing music. 2022 just found its game's gem once more

There could be a sequel. I suspect B-12 is still alive. He is now the city's supercomputer. I think the hint is very clear at 12:30 where the device glitches like at the beginning.
I cried after finishing the game. They bot are the best companion ever, and how the cat really cares about B12 and in the end B12 sacrificed himself tho. What a story. Good game!!!!
When I bought this game, I had no clue what it was about besides a cat and a cyberpunk setting, so going into this nearly completely blind I thought it would be just a cute little cat game where you interact with citizens for world building and wholesome moments. Never did I expect what this game delivered, and it's because it managed to pull me into its world, while also making me care for its characters that it'll probably be one of my favorite games of the year. I really hope we get a follow up where Stray (that's what I call the cat) returns to the city with their other cat friends and goes on another adventure.

this game a bundle of everything i love in life. Cats, asian night neony streets, Wall-E / Portal vibes, and so many other little stuff.
Unexpectedly amazing game. I teared up, yes. And I struggled to press any buttons and make the cat move and leave B-12. I just didn't want to leave him. Way for the creators to make you feel for the characters. Such a simple, yet incredibly moving story. Absolutely brilliant.
its rare for me to start crying at media, especially at games, but as soon as kitty curled up near b12 i just started bawling. i had to look up a video because i wasnt able to watch the rest of the ending properly from the tears in my eyes.
That glitching at the end is very interesting, a potential sequel maybe? There are still more questions left to be answered.

More likely DLC to tie up a few loose ends. This is a smaller budget title and I can’t see them going all out on a sequel unless this sells massively like 1 million sales.

Maybe DLC, but I think it's more just something to imply that B-12 is still alive to leave some intrigue in the ending.

i cried playing this game, and i don't cry much. I hope maybe they would add maybe an free dlc or so where he maybe revisit his friends or, goes back and it an free roam mode.
The connection i got with this cat was so real and emotional i started to sneeze. (Im allergic to cats). Great game. 😸
I think the flashing of the screens right in the last moments of the ending was a sign that maybe B-12 survived after all! His little robot body may have been fried, but maybe he simply returned to the city's system. A girl can dream, lol

The black and white glitching at the end are the same colors used by B-12 to lead you to him at the start of the game, hopefully we get to see him again!
I never ever cry when i see any piece of media but there was just something about this game that made me cry for 10 minutes straight
My theory is that the tiny robot transfers his consciousness to the main control system... Since this is not the first time he did that.

The last guardian was a lovely game I LOVED TRICO!!!!
If it makes anyone feel any better, in my interpretation the cat seemed to have paused, like they were listening or sniffing out a scent, and then the way they descended the stairs seemed like they knew where they were going and had a goal in mind. So I think it's safe to say the cat is definitely going to go reunite with their family, as cats are great trackers in general. Plus, the way they were bobbing their head up and down and blinking slowly at the camera seems to suggest more of a sweet ending than sad.
You know its a game right
A beautiful bittersweet ending to Stray as these endings live longer in the human psyche than if it was a happy end or a total bleak end. Bittersweet is the lifelong lesson of mankind, that we have to all push on thru the pain of loss no matter what. Stray demonstrated that aspect 100%, that you couldn't take B/12 with you, it's valuably important that you accept this grief as we will all at some point leave the ones we love behind, and visa versa. The game is a modern masterpiece.
Only two games ever made me cry ... Stray and Tales of Berseria I wish that kitty to reunity with his family
I forgot this one games name but it’s like the adventures of (a name) and in the story the main character who is a boy is slowly dying and in the last scene his guide to death tells about his life and how it was amazing and all to a god that’s taken the form of a cat for him (I cried)

I just googled what a group of cats was after watching this and apparently its a Clowder.
I'm just trying to force myself to believe that my little cat walked off and found his clowder of friends.
This game truly embodies the "Its the friends you make on the way" and I love it
B-12 is alive. He's just doesn't have a body anymore. We can see this in the end of the game (12:31).
The main character will find other cats, we just haven't seen it.
guys, i never cried so hard in my life after a game. i can relate to the cat. that you fall into a deep black hole and nobody is gonna save u. i climbed out of that hole. kinda like the cat and got free. depression is the worst thing to have.
The ending had me tearing up, haha. Such a wonderful game man.
A fresh air in this industry, a game made with pure passion and hearth. You can see the emotions and love for the pets we have from the devs. Hope for sequel.
The drone body dies but the the little computer lights flickering near the steps at the end suggests he lives on inside the city computer so hopefully there will be a Stray 2 and also when you’re in the control room the cameras continue to watch and follow your movements so he he is watching them on the other end?

incredibly upsetting yet fantastic. cried for a very long and embarrassing amount of time, the music when the cat turns and looks you in the face is phenomenal
Looking back at Stray, the lovable kitty and story really make it a future classic. It’s unique gameplay and ability to break and heal your heart shows a uniqueness rarely seen in todays industry.
even though it's only a cat, but this cat whose intention is to go out, actually fulfills the desire of the underground residents to see the beautiful blue sky. So we who are still given the opportunity to see the blue sky every day, must be grateful. because we don't know how long this favor will be revoked

Did you even play the game? Or did you just skip the the ending scene after watching the cat get separated? Because if you played the game, with all its challenges, you'll know that the cat slinking off into the sunlight and nature is clear symbolism that the cat has escaped the danger. Use your imagination for the reunion.

finished the game yesterday. I don't usually get emotional in games but god this made me incredibly sad I cried so much... and now I'm back to see it again just to cry even more

When the first ray of sunshine shines in it literally feels like real to me because so long we wandered in dark alleys and dark streets and now finally seeing the sunlight again and seeing how the robots react to it teared me up a little bit
oh come on... just make scene that the cat meet the family at least
a 10sec scene of the other cats looking up sniffing the air meowing happily and running towards him

Man My heart just got broken and healed at the same time while I'm crying real tears because I'm sad that the cat wouldn't be able to with B12 Anymore but hey atleast the cat is finally outside and I'm sure the cat will find his family of cats
To be honest, i liked the ending. Its sad the robot drone had to die but i like the ending with the cat. How it looks at the player is jhst something else. The way it left reminded me of an ending of a book. Best endings of a book and a game are where the player in this case can imagine what hapoened after that. Maybe the ending was dont the way it is, so the second part of the game is the cat finding its family in the wild. Is so i cant wait!

Stray has that impact like Flower, Journey, Abzu and among some other games that AnnaPurna released with a specific peculiar artstyle.
There is something about those type of games like “ABZU” and “The last tree” that make me cry even tho it’s a good ending
my brother bought this game and i didnt watch him playing it from the very beginning when the cat falls down.. but after that i started watching him play it and got so attached to it.
yesterday he finished it and when this part showed up i literally cried my eyes out.. B-12 's words hurt me.. he sarcfaied his memory/life for the robots :((( so hearttouching.
also the cat being outside then looking at you oh god.. it's been ages since i cried like that on a game
I would've loved it if at least he carried B12 to the top of the stairs outside then it fades to black and you hear his boot up sound or a meow from his lost friends...
Yeah... I very much would expect the cat to carry b12's corpse to the outside with him

My wifes Cat Simba passed away a couple of years ago. A ginger cat just like Stray. My wife happened to walk into the room as Stray was sniffing the air and looked back at us. I tried to make it special so i told her it was perfect timing as if her cat Simba was saying goodbye one last time. Of course my wife started balling.
It’s crazy how when B12 died he carried the last trace of humanity. I felt so bad because now humanity was gone, humans were just a thing of the past. I’m sure the plague didn’t spread to the entire world but atleast in the country where this is based, humans are no more
I thought all of the humans turned into robots to avoid the plague, the robots you see in the game are the old humans?

@@XavierZazi throughout the game you hear how the robots started to act like humans compared to when the humans were around, also you see more of those pod things that b12 used to become a robot in different places
this scene is breaking my heart again and again, when i watch it.. it’s somehow terrifying, because B-12 was the last being that had something left of a human in him, and then he dies, leaving stray alone, with a city full of robots..
Man this ending was really something....I was expecting to have something happy but somehow I just feel....alone

This game was so sad. From start to finish, it brought a tears to my eyes. I cried at like three different parts of this game. Idk if I should commend the game devs for making this good game or be mad them for making a good, depressing game. I hate playing games that make me cry. But it wasn't that bad overall. And the ironic thing is, I'm more of a dog person.
We all have to say goodbye to multiple friendships/relationships in life we don’t want to end, which is why the beginning is sad and why this ending hits even harder. But once he frees the city it’s also another beginning for Stray, like life itself
