one of the best things about pre-1.8 for me is how balanced the animals were, each one of them dropped their own respective items. But now pigs are practically useless because cows are easier to breed, drop leather as a bonus, and steak heals the same amount of hunger as porkchops.
They were hardly balanced. Cows are outright useless the second you get access to iron armor (30 minutes into a world), feathers can be obtained more effectively by zombies and pigs are rendered obsolete by how easy it is to farm pork chops in the nether. Sheep are the only useful passive mob in pre-1.8.
I like the old food system a lot more. While it was difficult to manage inventory space, it also meant you couldn’t just carry around enough food to last for multiple in-game weeks at a time. It was also more skill based, meaning a player who could avoid damage more often could afford to bring less food on mining expeditions or while exploring.
this is a weird opinion of mine but I believe adding sprinting to the game created some serious balance issues and it also sped the game's progression up. I kinda enjoyed the slow paced aspects of beta MC and I'm glad that other people seem to think the same.
recently i have delved so far into the old school minecraft scene its crazy to me how many dedicated people there are who still play the old versions, while also remaining kind of niche, sort of like how the game was/felt like back in those times,
i like old minecraft a lot but i still prefer the new system over the old one i feel like solving your food issues is part of the chalange and great for someone like me who finds it hard to find objectives in the game i just find it enjoyable farming food and when you are so late in the game that you can do crazy constructions you probably already have an automatic full source like the automatic chicken breeder that i made once and i never needed to hunt or harvest food again but i still could harvest insane amounts of food as a i don't know a chalange withouth having to spend it but i tottaly understand the point (sorry for the bad english)
It would be cool if instead of adding hunger, notch made it so that food regenerates health gradually, and at different speeds. for example, meat would regenerate health not instantly, but one every second. and bread would do it slower, and golden apple faster than anything else, which is useful in battles.
Wow, how haven't i found this video before. It goes over the main points as to why i dislike the modern minecraft hunger system so much. I also imagine that food not stacking was a deliberate choice that was removed on a whim to make the game easier and then the introduction of even more food ruined the balancing of food items. Bringing too much food would keep you safe but eat a majority of your inventory so your incentivized to take risks as you get more and more experienced / confident, such as bringing less food to carry more items but doing so could leave a player in a disastrous position if something unexpected happened.
Cool and informative video! Anyways, I was wondering if you would be willing to hear out a SMP idea I am likely putting together where someone of your knowledge would be useful, and if so where I would be able to contact you? (ya don't need to record its just for fun)

I remember old mods that added all sorts of foodstuffs into the game.
3:06 m8 in my modern Minecraft modpacks I use Hunger Strike to remove the goddamned hunger bar of COURSE there should be a toggle

imagine what minecraft could be: if balance was mojang's top priority for every new feature~
This is a video the developer of ReIndev should watch
Could you provide a link to the world download of the mincraft tutorial world at the end?
Maybe a bit off-topic, but what song did you use for the video? Fits very well
Anomalous Hedges - Mini Vandals

I have a small question for you. multiplayer in the mangopack is beging tested or not yet not available?
the only thing is that you cant obtain regular aplle in survival onyl golden ones with pretty rare chances
Yes
Calling cows useful pre-hunger bar is a bit of a stretch
also what was the point of cocoa beans aside from brown dye
Cookies!
@@Legohead458 so they are craftable?
@@togguleru6915 yeah they are
they are useful, in modern they are just too good, they made pigs useless.
I think hunger bar is not bad as an idea, but it's bad because of silly implemintation. Its doesnt give any challenge and just annoying.
I think modern system is better, since it balances sprinting, making less grind in game.
