  • Hey guys it's Barratt with the Gimpy Camper. I got the feeling a few months ago that I wanted to install a bidet on the RV toilet. It was around prime day so I was looking and found a couple of decent deals on some bidets. So I thought I'd get two different onces. The Prime day limit was one per order so by having two it also let me get a good deal. I will say it was a lot easier to install in the house rather than the camper. I did have to replace my toilet seat before the one at the house would attach properly. I have already replaced the toilet seat in the camper and it's worked out well. We did a video about it in the past which we will link here. The only problem that we have had is that the top of the toilet seat has scratched the wall, but that's no big deal. This toilet seat worked well with the Bidet that we had. The two bidet's that we have will be listed in some Amazon links in the description and both of them are working great now but let's talk about the obstacles we had putting it in the camper. The first step we did was to go over all the threaded connections with teflon tape. Then I added the plastic semicirclular clear round pieces to the circular base pieces. The purpose of this is to keep it from slipping on the toilet. Then I put the toilet seat back on and passed the screws through and secured them. I will say that this caused me some problems later so you want to try to slide the bidet as far forward as you can when you do this step.
If you watch a few videos about installing bidet's on RV's you'll see that the water supply line isn't so simple. It's basically because there is usually only 3-4" of pipe sticking out of the floor and going straight into the toilet. You can also see a lot of examples people use when they say "Don't do it this way." I'm getting ready to give you an example of mine.. lol. I didn't have my pex crimper with me and so I was trying to use shark bite fittings. I added a shut off to the pipe which is a good idea anyway and then bought a T that had a 3/8" compression fitting. I thought this will work great and it did, but then I used some 90 degree fittings to essentially make a small loop back down to the toilet fitting. However there was just enough tension on this that it leaked. The direction I ended up going with the supplies I could find was to get a valve that slipped on and had a 3/8" fitting on the end. This worked however, now I have a shutoff at the floor and a shut off at both of the braided supply lines. The next obstacle I had was going from a 3/8" compression fitting to a 1/2" swivel female fitting. For this I got an adapter from 3/8" to 1/2" MIP. Then I got a 1/2" swivel adapter to put on the MIP that had shark bite. I just put the original 1/2" female swivel adapter from the toilet back on here and tightened it to the toilet.
Then I thought I was at the finish line, but when I turned on the bidet, it looked like it needed some flow max for some prostate issues. It worked fine if I pulled the sprayer down. I was using the water pump and the pressure was fine. I mentioned it on a FB group and someone said they thought they remembered that when they installed it the curvature of the toilet bowl pushed on the sprayer. I loosened the screws and scooted it as far forward as I could and it worked fine. Another job completed.
As far as using the bidet, it's not the life changing experience that I often here and it does seem to use more water than I would think, but if you aren't needing to conserve water and want to reduce or eliminate toilet paper in your tank, this is a valid option. Thanks guys for watching and being a part of our family.
