Original Speed Triple walk round

- This is a walk round of my current bike: an original Speed Triple. They were made between '94 and '96 in a classic cafe racer style. I'll be doing the same for the new Speed Triple tomorrow as a comparison. I really love this bike (as you might be able to tell).
To me this is the most beautiful bike that has ever been build.Dont give it away,you are going to regret it

Thanks! Fell in love with the Speed Triple when they unveiled it at the NEC show (in '93 I think) and bought my first in '98 (that was one of the 750cc versions). This one is my third (second 900) and love them to bits.
The "whine" or whistling noise on these triples comes from the straight-cut gears on the counterbalancer shaft, which sits right near the front of the motor. All straight-cut gears (as opposed to helical-cut, which are quieter, but a bit less efficient) have this sound. I've got a 2008 Daytona 675, and I personally love the sound!
Awesome bike, by the way! I really wanted one of these back in '94 when they first came out, but never was able to get one at the time. Now they are really hard to find. I think if I could find one I would still snap it up; like you say they really have a look and feel like nothing else!
Yeah - I fell in love with then in the early 90s but couldn't afford one then. Have had three and loved every minute. I never thought it possible, but I love my new bike more. Am going to do a "six months on" video...
I don't really notice that whine myself, but very interesting to hear about where it comes from. Thanks for that! I always ride with ear plugs which possibly filters it out and then with the noise of everything else around...

always wanted one of these but getting like hens teeth. I'm returning after a ten year hiatus to road bikes and will probably go for a newer generation. budgeting approx 2.5 k. last bike was a duke monster and that may be on my shopping list along with BMW GS. just need to see what's out there. however the number one accessory for any biker should be a "deer scarer" stick a couple of those on and chances of a collision with Bambi are greatly reduced.

I find it very difficult to change anything on a bike (or anything, for that matter). Having said that, there is one niggle I already have with the new one which I'll be pointing out in the next video...

I see what you mean. As you'll discover in my next video (putting it together now), the new Speed Triple also has this whine. I'm wondering if it's a difference between a carburetted engine and a fuel injected one...

Question: I am considering buying a 1st Gen Speed Triple (1996). Do you know if there is any way to put bar risers on the 1st Gen Speed 3s so the sitting position is a little more upright? Thank you.
The original bars are clipons so it should be possible. There has been quite a market over the years for modifications so it shouldn't be too hard to find something compatible...
Looks like the 'bars on this bike have been relocated above the top yolk. Should ease those aching wrists a bit. I have an immaculate 750 from '97. Just 14,000 joyous miles.
Check out LSL handlebar risers. You'll have to grind off the handlebars on the clipons and keep the clipons where they are as they act as a spacer and pinch the headlight assembly steady in place on the forks. But the LSL riser will sit above the triple tree and allow through bars
hello I just bought one of these bikes and it needs a lock ignition system i have a 1996 triumph speed triple. do you by any chance know where I can get one of these. Or is it possible to put in one if i a buy a new one because I lost the other one.
These units tend to be fairly universal, however there are some differences between models. To be certain, I would recommend calling a dealer who would be able to check part numbers for compatibility. The other option would be to see if you could order from someone who would take the part back if it wasn’t the right one.
I'm going to report on fuel consumption later. I don't know what the originals managed new, but I tend to average around 42mpg(UK) with mixed conditions.
Haven't noticed any high-pitched whine. I do always wear ear plugs, though. Will try to get a better recording of the sound at some point...

Ah...yes...well... That's what happens when you're trying to concentrate on saying something sensible and your hand goes to the starter button when you're talking about the horn. Was hoping nobody would notice. :-)
