The Jelling stones (Danish: Jellingstenene) are massive carved runestones from the 10th century, found at the town of Jelling in Denmark. The older of the two Jelling stones was raised by King Gorm the Old in memory of his wife Thyra. The larger of the two stones was raised by King Gorm's son, Harald Bluetooth, in memory of his parents, celebrating his conquest of Denmark and Norway, and his conversion of the Danes to Christianity. The runic inscriptions on these stones are considered the best known in Denmark.
The stones are strongly identified with the creation of Denmark as a nation state. Both inscriptions mention the name "Danmark" (in the form of accusative "tanmaurk" ([danmɒrk]) on the large stone, and genitive "tanmarkar" (pronounced [danmarkaɽ]) on the small stone).
The larger stone explicitly mentions the conversion of Denmark from Norse paganism and the process of Christianization, alongside a depiction of the crucified Christ; it is therefore popularly dubbed "Denmark's baptismal certificate" (Danmarks dåbsattest), an expression coined by art historian Rudolf Broby-Johansen in the 1930s.

The address is: Gormsgade 23, 7300 Jelling, but the main entrance is towards Vestergade
Parking on Vestergade. Busses on Bredager.
Riding the bus or the train?
Kongernes Jelling is easily accessible by both train and bus. You can see the UNESCO Monument area from the train station and the walk to Kongernes Jelling takes less than 5 minutes.
Jelling has hourly train departures for Vejle (connection to Århus, Aalborg and Billund), for Fredericia (connection to Odense, Copenhagen, Kolding, Sønderborg, Esbjerg) and to Herning (Skjern, Silkeborg, Holsterbro, Struer, Thisted).
Every other hour direct trains IC-Lyn to/from Copenhagen and Odense.
On weekdays, bus no. 211 connects Jelling with Vejle every hour. For both bus and train schedules, visit Rejseplanen.
Every day during the school summer holidays there is a FREE bus connection with route 219 from Vejle, Givskud, Billund and Randbøldal.
Can I buy something to eat and drink?
There is a café in the Experience Centre that sells hot and cold beverages and cake. The café can also serve lunch if ordered ahead of time (see Café Kongernes Jelling).
Can I bring my own food?
Outside in the Monument Area there are tables and benches for eating your own food. Inside in the Experience Centre only food and beverages bought in the Café are allowed.
Are dogs allowed?
Only service dogs are allowed.
