I can't believe this is in New York City - Orchard Beach's hidden nature trail in the Bronx

Orchard Beach is a popular beach in the Bronx. The locals are able to access it as the bus stops directly at the entrance. While during the summer, the beach gets crowded with many people soaking in the sun, and there's an entrance fee for parking. From Labor day to Memorial day, the parking lot doesn't charge a fee. The parking lot is actually really big, that many learn to drive in that lot. Often groups of people meet up for bbq, play salsa and dance in the lot.
The beach itself, is well maintained and I actually prefer to go late afternoon when the crowd has left and soak up the sun either on the beach. My most favorite place is the nature trails in Hunter Island and Twin Island. All I need is a blanket, snacks and a good book and it's a perfect afternoon. There's also alot of people fishing along the beach and on the rocks.
