- Here are the item and tools I use in this process:
Can't find wood in the wilds? One of the best woods to use is cork because it breaks down very slowly in wet environments, are super light, and is sold inexpensive in many shapes for pets like reptiles and amphibians like this:
amzn.to/30XBplu
XL Superglue Gel (Get a big bottle! And get it as GEL! The tiny ones run out too quickly and make more of a mess in this process)
amzn.to/3eVBu18
Latex Free Gloves: (Learn from my mistakes and wear gloves to keep the glue off your skin!)
amzn.to/38WROuH
Small Pruning Garden Sheers (I've bought three of these and love them!):
amzn.to/2OEyqvP
Sphagnum Moss (This brand is most cost effective because its less tidy with more twigs and non-moss organics, but I don't mind this)
amzn.to/3s2T1In
Rechargeable air duster (I use this now instead of compressed air. I use it everywhere and love it!)
amzn.to/3r18EPo
Mounting Kit:
amzn.to/3s1AmwG
Spray bottles for water and isopropyl alcohol.
amzn.to/3r15xqL
Isopropyl Alcohol (this is pure so be sure to cut it with at least 1/3 parts water)

Tutorial on my first mounting of a Phalaenopsis on found wood using super glue. My camera angles need some work, I'm used to being behind the camera, not in front of it in my profession. LOL
Special thanks to Brad's Greenhouse and Gardening for his video on this glue mounting technique:
• MOUNTING ORCHIDS with ...
Things I learned in this process:
Buy larger tubes of super glue GEL. the little tubes ran out instantly and I had to scramble to to get enough glue down before it set.
Might want to wear plastic gloves next time to keep the glue off my fingers.
this is the most soothing plant video i have ever seen; i was worried about the superglue chemistry, good to know it is inert; i think i want to listen to your videos for meditation, they are so respectful and gentle towards life.
Yes you can use crazy glue. We use it to mount live coral to a established reef tank. Won't hurt plants
If you painted the back with brown 100 percent silicon where it touches the wall then it won't discolor the wall and will allow you to have the wood more moist. Also if you wanted to is to add a small water bottle with a hole and a natural rope to the back that leads up to where the plant is planted. The wicking effect will keep the orchid watered longer.
Love the silicone back idea! I've experimented a bit with a wick idea but haven't found anything effective yet that isn't unsightly. But I'll keep playing with this idea.
BEST IDEA - THANK YOU Martha !🌞🌞🌞
Just watched this video (May 2019), wondering how this orchid is doing two years after you mounted it like this. Please consider giving us an update.
He has posted an update in the comments (you can scroll down and see the original): his orchid died during a move in the winter but was doing well on the mount before the move.
Yes how is it?
@@1hundread948 it's dead because of freezing
Thank you for taking the time to make this video for our learning pleasure. I especially appreciate the step-by-step instructions. Yours is the only video that I had found that actual shows this. I'm sorry to hear that you lost this Phal. It is good to know that your 1st experiment did work though. I hope that you have done more since your move because clearly you have a knack to make them look good. : }
Regrettably the orchid died from freezing during my move across country in Jan. To answer some questions: The orchid did very well for three months before the move with almost daily watering, a mix of either taking it down and soaking in a bucket of water or spraying thoroughly. It had several new roots and a baby leaf before the move.
BenRichFilm thanks for the update. To bad we lost her in the move! Hope to see another video like this. Good job!!
Orchids is studied to live in white people's home through pot. Don't try to pretend their are in their habitat cus home and habitat are totally different especially when your home don't have the minimum requirement. And the glue was a stupid idea
Emanuel Fernandez Man you have no idea what you're talking about lol
LMAO what?! first of all orchids naturally grow on wood/trees/bark and the glue is completely none damaging to the plant.
Was it too much trouble for you watering that often?
This is by far honestly my Most favorite and straight clear but informative point and amazing amazing job and I’m fixing to do my first one to wish me luck I love your videos do more please because I am an orchid fanatic lover you name it orchid everything LOL so please keep making more
I like the way you work with your orchid.
It's all the care you give it and you would have to be on top of such a project, thanks for sharing.
Just got into the hobby myself and this makes a nice piece to showcase the orchid. Thanks!
I loved it.the mount is looking beautiful with the orchid on it.
Best of luck.
Thankyou so much for showing us.
clear and easy to follow instructions . thank you Ben Rich , you're so wonderful
Thanks for the instruction. I want to do this with a wild oncidium ampliatum that has 16 inch leaves. I can't pot the beast. Your orchid looks beautiful and natural.
This is INCREDIBLE!!! I'm doing this ASAP!!! Thank you so much!
Well done job, and the final result is truly lovely. Thanks for sharing.
Oh lovely video filming :D keep it up and good luck with your channel :D
I know you😊
My orchid doctor. dr. Danny.
Thank you for all your videos and precious advice for my girls😚
Good job
Thanks
Very Nice. This is gorgeous. Looks like a bow.
So beautiful. I loved it.
Thank you! Cheers!
beautiful, I think I'm ready to give it a go!
Love how it turned out!
Very nice! Ty so much I just sat down with my supplies to mount one for my daughter 😬 wish me luck lol edit: I subbed.
Yay! Thanks for the sub! I'm looking to begin making content again here soon. First video would be a long overdue update.
BEAUTIFUL
Thank you... what a wonderful and beautiful idea
great mounting job
thank you. OMG i've been pulling the sphagnum moss piece by piece from newly bought orchid. Never occurred to me to just wash it off...
It's beautiful
Thank you
really beautiful
Thank you 🙏
That was a really good idea, h0w is the orchid doing? I have a couple of miniatures that I want to mount in my kitchen wall. Let us know maybe other people is interested in the same thing, Thank you for the tutorial.
Alberto Samano yes Alberto I like to see how his plan is doing since he use superglue I'm not sure I feel comfortable putting super glue on the roots of my orchids. I want to see how that goes especially if somebody else has already done it a long time ago.👉👵👈
dOES IT STILL LIVE?
Awesome
love this idea
Nice video thank you for sharing♥️👍🏼
Beautiful
This is gorgeous
Thank you!
This is probably the very first one to mount an epiphyte inside the bark.
Thank you for sharing
Very impressive.
Wow what idea .
Phalaenopsis love to be constantly moist. It can't grow mounted indoor, unless 90% humidity is provided as it is in nature.
Marcy *** you are right Marcy 👉👵👈
Beautiful, can we see an update?
Nicely done.
Bravo, beautiful. Hello from Texas.
Thank you very much!
Love your video , thank you
Thank you :)
Por favor, vejo que você usa um tipo de cola p/ fixar a orquídea e o musgo esfagno... Que cola e essa?
Please update how this orchid thrived.
Well done 👏!
cool Ben nice job
It's stunning! How did it do for you?
Did this plant survive the process?
Beautiful!
super idea bro
Can you do an update video ? On how it is doing
couldn't you just lay the orchid on top, and it will naturally start to cling to the bark over time?
Cee that will take to long. The constant moving to water and soak the plant would stress it.
Update this video please we want to know how’s your plant doing! Thanks a mil
Thanks, clear instructions 😀
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ thanks ❤
Wouldn't the glue have some bad effect on the orchid??? It is made up of harsh chemicals. Using the wire instead of the glue could have made the orchid live longer......
Wow! This video was posted 6 years ago! Any updates on this phalanopsis plant?
The plant did well for several years, until it was killed by frost during a move. I have since used this technique on other builds. The main problem is maintaining enough humidity in this exposed root design in my current climate in Vegas. I can't do the regular wall mount like I did in this video, but instead must have them in higher humidity enclosures.
Ben, I live just north of Las Vegas and am thinking of hanging one above the kitchen sink. I'd like to mount a BLC on a cactus skeleton. Your thoughts?
Gorgeous!!😍😍😍
Can grow inside home (without sunlight)?
Glue?! This is crazy! No way.
Think again. People use superglue in reef tanks to attach very sensitive corals to rocks and it does nothing to them. Also people use it to attach moss to wood or rock in freshwater tanks. Please actually research something before saying it.
This is like... Orcid Dr Frankenstein.
Great instructions! You sound like a NatGeo show. Haha
thanks for sharing, i want to do this with my orchid. could i do the same old wood fencing material
Yes. Old fencing material should work just fine. I use old boards, driftwood, cork, tree branches, etc. Good luck..
Nice 👍🏽
gluing the roots of the plant?
how is your orchid right now? can u share an update about it please?
Hello...how did that plant do with the super.glue?
Why didnt you boil the tree?
Can you give an update of how is your orchid doing now?
Very good video. I really enjoyed how detailed you were on your instructions.
Ni Yan good instructions, just wrong orchid.
Thank you. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the type of orchid?
BenRichFilm Indoor I can only think about cattleya. Phal likes to be watered when the media is reaching a dryness, while cattleya can stay dry couple more days. But cattleya will need to be well soaked after it got dry out! Too much hassle (for me). I grow all my orchids in the garden in pots here, on east coast of Australia. The lowest humidity here is 60% in winter time. I've got some oncidiums and vandas growing on trees. They need some watering, despite they grow on naturally occurred pillows of dry and rotted leafes, which retain water.
Brassavola! I'm thinking to mount mine, cos its too sensitive to over watering. But she is growing and flowering for me in large bark media in a pot. Very fragrant at night! ) Happy gardening! )
Colando o musgo e as raízes?!
Incrível, não é!??? 😳 Eu não sei se arrisco!!!
are you using a glue?
Excellent video. Yeah.. Update?
Safari Tom I just want to see how that Orchid is doing now after being super glued on its roots I am so interested in finding out it's somebody else's ever tried that method
👉👵👵
I mounted several, 2 of them being phalaenopsis. Since glueing, they both have grown tremendously. I was shocked at how fast the new roots came out and new foliage. Wish I could post pics. I glued them with the foliage angled down in a more natural position.
but why the glue? why not fishing wire?
I've never liked the look of fishing wire. The glue gets hidden by the moss. Also fishing wire can deform or strangle a plant as it grows while the glue, used in moderation, will not.
Where did you get this pink mesh lamp from 😂
Good idea but the glu wont meks root dameg ha?
JERUSHA MERCY that's what I want to know how the roots are doing now👉👵👈
Libby's Little Garden he posted the orchid passed
Isn't super glue toxic????
Superglue was actually invented to close wounds, so it is safe on living flesh. There is probably some noxious off gassing during the rapid curing process, but the glue itself does not damage the plant.
very nice and informative video.did you have more videos.I don't see any, other then this one.anyways I subscribe.I did a video of mounting my den lodisii which was very long and viny.
Pakai lem ya ? ...kok bisa ? Lem khusus palingan
Woah. Superglue? On an Orchid? How is the plant doing now after six years? Oh, it died ? From the chill of moving house in winter ? Oh, I see... 🙁🙁🙁
You realise they make glue for people to use on their skin. Look up wound glue or skin adhesive. You could always use that
Hi any updates on how your orchid is doing?
Oh I just saw your response...moving is such a pain
Isnt it a bad idea to use super glue? Every time I see someone using super glue for a plant, I think by myself: isnt the orchidee or other plant going to die? I always think of This because the super glue is toxic
do you take them down to water or spray them ?
About half and half. I try to soak as often as I can but if I'm busy I'll just spray it.
El supergu no creo que sea adecuado para pegarlo sobre una planta .
Is this orchid still alive?
what else has been heard with this plant?
Is he still alive after you gave him super glue on the roots?
The first plant died due to freezing on a move. But I have since re-done this on three other orchids, all of which have done well for 3yrs+
How is your phal progressing?
Lynn Brooks that's what I want to know too Lynn.👉👵👈
You shouldn't glue your orchids, you should tie with a string. A biodegraded string, the plant you grow an hold itselfs with its roots.
I've done this as well though I find I don't care for the string as it rots. The glue has worked very well with three other mounts I've done that are still alive 3 years+.
Les vidéos sont intéressant dommage je ne comprend pas ce n'ait pas en français

super glue is toxic to the plant...use cable ties or small wires to mount your orchid :(
Super glue isn't toxic as far as I know, people use it for aquatic plants all the time.
It’s better off in a basket
People, please, use common sense and do not apply super-glue on plants. It's wrong. There are many natural ways to attach the orchid. Is it so difficult to figure that the roots will obviously suck all chemicals from the glue?
Superglue is what? Naturally anert? nerd??
I don't think glue is good for plants.
In actuality, as long as the glue bonds to small parts of the plant so as not to suffocate or inhibit growth, superglue is quite safe and biologically inert. It's even FDA approved for some medical uses such as rejoining veins and arteries during surgery, sealing bleeding ulcers, punctures, or lesions, stopping uncontrollable bleeding of some soft organs, and use during dental surgery. The first use of super glue in medicine was to close wounds in the field during the Vietnam War.
My orchid died after two weeks, because I watered every two days.
Are you serious, glue? A fish rope is ideal but the glue is to avoid
Emanuel Fernandez dude super glue is used in freaking aquariums it's non-toxic
