- A great evening spent at Wolverton on the West Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from Avanti West Coast, London Northwestern Railway and plenty of freight from Freightliner, DB Cargo UK, GBRF and Royal Mail.
Wolverton was built in 1838 to coincide with the construction of the Wolverton Railway Works, this however was only temporary as the land around the railway works was purchased to extend the land to 13.5 acres. This meant that the station had to be moved south, where the current station now resides. This was done in 1881 along with the re-routing of the mainline. The former station used to boast a wooden booking hall located on the bridge that passes over the line, this meant that access to the station was achieved via the use of a footbridge. This was kept in use until British Rail demolished the structure in 1991.
It took nearly 13 years before a new building was constructed on the car park level, even then it was exceptionally basic with only a booking office/waiting room available, only in 2016 was a coffee shop and snack kiosk built.

It amazes me how fast trains can go round the curves here.
Just goes to show how far trains have come that even a fully loaded freight train can hurl itself around tight radius curves
I spent many of my teenage years trainspotting at Wolverton, mainly evenings and overnight for freight but always loved the tingle of the chain fences fences tingling as the trains approached, happy memories
The WCML has always been great for variety, even in the modern era depending on where you go and what time you get there you can catch some great traction that's for sure. I would have loved to have been doing this around the 90's when there was so much on offer across the whole network
That's a busy station. Great video.
What a brilliant station Wolverton is. The GBRF 47 looked absolutely smart and its always great to see the Royal Mail 325s. The 66s, as always, put in their usual awesome performances. Be well and stay safe, regards Gary.
It's such a shame that this station gets overlooked at times. I do love coming here. There was plenty of variety to be seen thats for sure
Well that was a very enjoyable video to sit down and watch to eat my tea after a long day on the farm. Im already looking forward to the next one. Thank you for posting this video. Sincere best wishes. Stay safe
Thanks very much my good friend I'm glad you enjoyed watching this :) I hope you're keeping well out there :)

Thanks very much bud and sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, it comes from years of practice and good eyesight haha
Brilliant video wolverton is my fav train station when it comes to passing trains
This is a great station to come to when the freight is in full swing :)
Hi mate another great video mate it was a pretty you mast the two class86/6 electric locomotives mate I look forward to the next video on the wcml mate stay safe and well mate goodbye for now clive
Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed watching this :) The freight coming through definitely helped
Ah amazing video as per normal. I see 390 115 is back at me again (It's called Allison lol) the ECS 221 was going to Ilfords Bombardier depot for a refurbishment. Good to see the 325s running around and what a good catch seeing 325001
Thanks very much, I always love filming on the WCML especially during the rush hour period as the variety is excellent
Even though I am not really a WCML person I do really enjoy your WCML videos. Great Video too 😊
Thanks very much, I know that I do the WCML to death but I can't stop filming on it haha :)
@@Tornado922 ha ha

@@Tornado922 your more than welcome 👍👍👍 Rory
Amazing video again Tornado, nice spot and good variety of trains running through.
Thanks very much :)
welcome back tornado thought you had gone..... have been looking for your vids for ages ..suppose covid had something to do with it .nice to see your vids again .........
Covid had keep me away from the railways for well over 5 months so it felt good to be back in the saddle doing what I do best :)
I saw the same 2 47s at old linslade top and tailing 360008, lovely locos
Probably taking the 360s to be fitted with 110 mph kit
Alison Rawlings for EMR presumably
@@EastMidlandsTrainspotting they are indeed going to emr
Great video tornado!
Please film at Shotton on the North Wales coast line, lots of 158s giving it the beans!
Thanks very much, I'll give it a look and see what happens :)
Nice one
Great video mate love the freighters
Thanks very much, always love getting the freight passing through here
Fantastic video Jarred. Nice to see the GBRF class 47 and Caledonian Sleeper class 47 holding a Greater Anglia class 720 and the Royal Mail trains as well I really enjoyed it 👍👏.
Can you do trains at Barking on the LTSML after Wembley by the foot bridge.
Thanks very much I'm glad you enjoyed watching this, I had a great time getting it all put together. I don't know when I'll get barking done but it is on my list of stations to go to at some stage
Marvelous video
Thanks very much
Great video Tornado922
Thanks very much :)
Awesome video mate! Very nice to see the GBRf 47, it's a very simple livery to be honest. One other thing I was wondering; are you actually allowed onto platforms 1 and 2 where the fast services pass? Great video!
Thanks very much, I had a great time getting this film put together, you can go onto P1 and P2 but it really isn't recommended that you do so as you are standing very close to edge of the platform on those lines which naturally worries the drivers
Superb video. I really enjoyed it. :)
Thanks very much :)
Hope you are keeping well? Another quality video thanks. Saw your train at Leicester today - 222003 'TORNADO'.
Thanks very much, I'm doing very well thanks I trust you are to? I must get a hold of EMR and get some sort of publicity event with it haha
Another place to get good 390 tilt is Berkhamsted. They filmed the BR APT going through there
Great video
Thanks very much
Camera quality looks Sharper than Normal.
Will never hate the Opportunity to see lots of Freight
Well I haven't done anything different with the Tablet that I was using but I'll still take it haha
Jared... I love you!!
Now that i have your attention. Another Great Video
Thank you kindly haha!!
Nice vid mate! I saw a working today at Stafford of a Voyager running an Ilford to Barton service too. No idea why
*Barton to Ilford. The reason why that 221 was doing that is because Avanti are getting there 221s refurbished at Ilfords Bombardier depot.
Alison Rawlings ah yeah that makes sense. The one I saw was going back to Barton
29:30 That 66092 sounded like a Class 70! How odd! Great video nonetheless!
Yeah I noticed that.
Interesting
Hmm it did. Probably giving it a bit of power. Sounded good
Yeah I noticed that aswell. Interesting indeed.
I didn't even clock it at the time haha
Great video.
Thanks very much
Another brilliant video legend tornado
Thanks very much my good man!!
Great Work Tornado! Nice to see that there isn't loads of Hi-Viz staff around telling you off when you lean over. It would be awesome to do a dual video at some point. Let me know if that's something that interests you :)
Thanks very much I'm glad you enjoyed this :) I think during my entire stay there I didn't see a single security guard patrolling the station which I thought was a tad odd. But hey-ho I still had a great time here. I would be up for a dual video at some stage in the future. Did you have anywhere in mind you would like to go?
@@Tornado922 Thanks for your reply, I need to re-visit Wolverton (and Milton Keynes) at some point, both great stations as you mentioned. I think its probably best we discuss it offline. I'm not 100% sure where exactly you are in the country so I don't want to suggest somewhere completely outside of your realm! I've got a business email on my about, drop me a line and we can set something up :)
Fantastic! Wolverton i need to go to at some stage
I do highly recommend this station
Speaking of 221 111 weirdly going to Ilford EMU, quite often see 387s of GWR and Heathrow Express sat in West Ealing DMU Sidings
So many trains to London I mean that crazy
They're very frequent going to the capital
Great video Jarred
Thanks very much
Great video!!! I subscribed!
Thanks very much for subscribing to my channel it really is greatly appreciated
@@Tornado922 no problem😀😀
Awesome video
Thanks very much
lovely video me and my mate are going there on monday after school is this the staition before milton keynes central and about 20-30 mins away fron northampton?
Thanks very much bud, this is indeed inbetween Milton Keynes and Northampton. It's a great little station to go to, I hope you had a great time there
Just out of curiosity, is there any functional difference between the various subcategories of 350s, or is it just that they originally belonged to different operators, like with the various 802 fleets?
Great video as always, I am loving that tilt on the 390s.
The 350/1 had a 'shoe' which meant that they could work on a third rail network. London Midland leased a few sets out to Southern before they got more class 377's
anothere great video J some good filming there love the way those 390s lean into the bends
they look fantastic going at speed b t w whats the speed limit through wolverton ?
thanks again for a quality video all the best J keep sfe matey SYD
Thanks very much Syd, in terms of the line speed through here i would have to say that it would be something like 90mph for the fast lines and something like 70 maybe 65 for the slow because the tight radius of the curve. But that would be complete guess work based off what I was seeing when the trains were passing me
Another brilliant video Tornado922! I really enjoyed this :)
Thanks very much I'm glad you enjoyed watching this :)
Hi Tornado922 I've been to Wolverton Station Last Month, when the weather is so hot and I took the some videos on my Smartphone.
I hope you had a great time when you were there :)
Very nice mate, good speed on some of the workings through there, went to rugeley today myself and it was great, plan on going there any time soon?
Thanks very much :) I have been meaning to go to Rugeley Trent Valley for quite some time now. I don't when I will get the chance to go there but I think it would be a great rush hour film
❤❤ that train was going to London euston
I'm surprised thatyou didn't bump into Keith (Smile video) - he's often lurking around Wolverton!
I don't think I've ever had the privilege of meeting him before
Hi love your videos when are you going to Manchester Piccadilly
Ryan Garlant he won’t be for a Fair while as he only feels comfortable doing smaller Stations and line-Side
As mentioned above once I feel more confident with the bigger stations then I'll start looking at doing places like Manchester Piccadilly
Wait wait..why the heck does both 350s have blood on it. Damn they've been out to kill!!
I don't know why but the Glasgow services don't go via Birmingham new street anymore
How do you know where the 390s are going and their thingy like this *390618*
Hi Tornado, what do you use to find out which trains are going through which stations?
Hello there, I use RealTimeTrains for all of my information
Awesome 😊
Thanks very much :)
Also how do you know about the freights passing early or late and also how do you know where its going to and from?
He was using real-time trains
Hi Tornado, hope you are well.
Will you do another question and answer session please as I have some questions for you.
Could you let me know please?
Thank you and stay safe
I'm doing very well thanks, I trust you are keeping well? I have just uploaded a film asking if anyone has any questions for me
Are all these 12 car sets full?
By the way next time you come. To wolverton don’t go to the car park, and turn right and there’s a free parking area
Thanks for letting me know!
Is 390112 close but is 11 coaches
Right
Could you please do a video at ebbsfleet intl
Once things have calmed down around the country and depending on how Eurostar are doing I will consider going back there one day
Why was there a 720 ga?
It was going to Wolverton for additional work
@@Tornado922 ok thanks mate we went yesterday and saw 2 class 720s one was going into the works or something and the other was just chilling
