    Why friction acts toward the center for a car moving in a circular motion?
    Is it to counter the tangential velocity effect on the car?

    Intuitively
    The car has the tendency to centrifuge away and the friction between the road and the tires acts toward the center to counter the tendency of the car to centrifuge out at every instant.

      animation can be tricky and time consuming. not sure if jacob knows how to do it (i, personally do not)

    Is that a transmission device making a right angle with r? Obviously there is a lot more going on with this demonstration @ patrickJMT, care to elaborate?

      I doubt he is prepared to answer that. Unless he is studying some aspect of mechanical- engineering or mechanical-propulsion-engineering. Then again what do I know. The guy comes off talking like some kind of intellectual.
