You can get a keyless electronic gas cap and never take the key out of your pocket. You can open the cap right after you switch off the motorcycle.

Ducati uses rubber belts to drive the camshafts. On the modern Multistrada, belt replacement and valve check are required at 18,000 miles. I have owned 5 Ducatis. I've never had a belt break and I have never needed to have my valves adjusted (always been within spec.). This is an expensive service but is not a reason to avoid this excellent bike. I agree with the comment about changing the rear sprocket to 42 teeth. I've never had a problem finding my key to unlock the gas cap. As others have said, a keyless cap is available but is just another thing to break that could leave you stranded. Overall an excellent review. I don't expect you to know everything about every bike you review. That's what comment are for. Keep up the good work.

hey man, I own this very bike. I've demo'd a ton of bikes, owned several other Ducati bikes (as well as as other sports/cruisers) and this it 100% the best all around bike I've ever sat on. It's very quick, very comfortable and has a ton of tech/options. Strip away the options, and it's still a blast just to throw into turns or cruise with.

I own one with a full system Termi..its a total blast. Grin factor of 10. Never never have I owned a bike that gives me so much pleasure to ride. It becomes insane after 6000rpm in sport mode...turns anyone into a blubbering 16 year old .I use it mainly for long trips and never feel tired after a 500 km ride..just pure elation. The fuel guage is incredible accurate. Green up to 50 km to go..turns Yellow after that and the last 10 km is Red. Accurate till the last 2 km..actually did it. Going to be difficult to trade this for a V4 as it actually produces more torque and only 2 hp down on the full system. Your review is acurate and honest..totally!! Thanks ..John Cape Town

Fantastic review Matty. I’m your size and love the 1260S. I think I’m gonna pull the trigger on a new V4S for 2021.
Dealer gets the first one in January.
    Thanks for the great review.

Hi. I bought Multistrada 950s last year as a my first bike. Here in Russia it’s very cheap for me if I will compare it with for example new Ram 1500 trx. I drive it in off-road and it’s not a problem for me. We go camping by dirty roads in the forest with my friend. But I plan to buy old Yamaha Serow, coz Multistrada is not so lite In terms of weight. It’s not so good for places like a Mongolia or Chukotka )

Thanks for the good insights I'm looking at trading my '18 Duc Supersport for a bike of this type. Want electronic suspension ability to add a centerstand. Took a demo '22 V2s out, plenty of go I thought, especially for the B roads I like best here in N. Ireland. Test rode a 1200s DVT and liked that, didn't notice a flat spot but maybe a little too smooth. Like the L twin chug. Is that weird? Test rode a V4s Multi and yes, very competent but didn't really feel that impressive until it revved a bit. The V4 definitely was fast and ate up the road for sure Rented a '19 s1000xr for 5 days in AU and like that a lot, liked the fizzely crackly motor it had and maybe I'm misremembering but it was at least as thrilling as the V4 when you give it full throttle. All that said, any one would fit the bill, so I'd probably factor cost in strongly. Must try a 1260 Multi before pulling any triggers I suppose.

6th gear is easily sorted by changing to a 42 tooth rear sprocket. 6th is then very useable rather than an overdrive. It also makes the bike nicer to ride at low speeds in town or in traffic.

I've done endless amounts of research when it comes to "Sport" Touring model bikes and I don't see any bike beating the KTM Super Duke 1290 GT. This is coming from someone who's first love was a Multistrada Pikes Peak and has ridden BMWs, KTMs, Ducati's of all types. The SDGT checks all the same boxes as the Multistrada in terms of tech (hill assist, C-ABS, ABS, Wheelie Control, Traction Control, Riding Modes, Cruise Control, heated grips, etc.), however the SDGT comes with factory painted travel bags, produces more power (+15 more HP/+9 lbs of Torque), doesn't have as expensive services (and longer between services), better electronic adjustable suspension vs the limited adjustability on the Ducati (even though its Ohlins), IMO a better TFT display (also bigger), more practical cornering lights, upgradable tech "packs" software, and for about $5k LESS than the Multistrada Pikes Peak (Closest Multistrada competitor IMO).

I just bought a 2020 V4S and absolutely adore it. I do wanna do some touring around the country and my buddy is wanting an AT but its to low on power. Ive seen these Multistrada's absolutely tear it up at the track and was blown away by their performance ability being what they are. So i think this would be the bike for me. BMW's are just meh to me and you see them everywhere. I like to be a tad different and I enjoy the brand so i should test ride one. BUT ive never ridden anything of this caliber so i have nothing to compare it to. Guess I should test a few out.

def take one of these for a test ride if you can.... fair warning.... youre gonna want it after!! also... the XR is not on the same level... on paper its great but off the show room it really leaes something to be wanted- try em all and please let me know what you end up with!

  • @ceay2k

I have a 2019 Multistrada S and I agreed with all the pros, it is and experience to drive this bike. Now the cons: You can change the gas cap for a keyless one and if I want to ride at the speed limit and expose myself to be rear ended, I will buy a Harley. The spirt of the Multi, is that it does it better and faster.

I do have a couple cons of my own. The hydraulic pumps of the clutch and the breaks could perform a lot better; the disks of the front brakes rub the calipers when you turn the handlebar all the way to either side and the auxiliary fog lights suck.

Don't see how taking a glove off and reaching in your pocket to refuel is even worth complaining about. And to fix 6th gear just go down 1 tooth on the front sprocket, It's also a cheap performance boost.
