Tell that to John McLaughlin, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Marcus Miller, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, Les Paul, Angus Young, Pete Townshend, Alex Lifeson... lol... dude.
none of those people can play more than 6 notes at once. Imagine your piano just had 6 keys, no matter how skilled you are, you can't play more than 6 notes simultaneously. Not because they're not amazing but because guitars have 6 strings.
prettysimplemusic what is this exact genre. I’m trying to find music that flows like this but I’m finding it tough. Your flow is amazing with these chords!
For anyone wondering, he may be playing these chords randomly but a lot of these substitutions are logical He uses modal interchange and a lot of ii-Vs (with tritone subs) from C minor or C major or into different keys like F minor or the ii of Ab(the bVI or bIII). Modulating to the mediants create a really hip sound over a vamp. Sometimes he uses rootless voicings and voice leading is the most important things but you don't have to always follow them. Also augment chords from the whole tone scale, and b6 on minor chords instead of the usual natural 6, but you can mix either or along with voice leading and jumps to add interest. Explaining and playing this stuff is another matter though.
Do you know any written resources on how to use those techniques? Other than this dudes website. I know where to find info on modal interchange, but not like that^

yo can i ask what do you mean by 'break down lessons with the theory" what would that be? just how its written on a stave? or theory as to why it works... thanks
Virtually every chord he plays is drawn from two very common diatonic scales (Cmaj & Cmin). The ones rooted on Db and Gb don't really fit the pattern but I guess he included them anyway so you could practice up & down as shown.
Even the Db and Gb ones are often functionally similar to other more 'normal' chords. For example a bII7 chord (Db7 in this case) can often fill the role of a V7 chord (G7 here) because the 3rds and 7ths are a mirror of one another. For Example: Db7: Db F Ab B G7: G B D F You see how close the chords are? When it comes to unusual chord ideas, it's amazing how simple many of them are when you look beyond the traditional, more classical approach to theory :) Always be asking WHY does that sound good, the answer probably isn't that complicated :)

Hearing this loop and chords made me follow along with my flute and feel the sweet VIBES and before I knew I'm off into a whole new world of blue improvisation. This is such a sweet and enjoyable way to get to grips with note discovery . thank you
Bro I'm a guitarist and you have made me buy a keyboard! I've purchased several of your instructional videos and I can't believe the progress !!!!! You are a fantastic instructor and player ,and straight up enjoyable to to listen to God bless you bro !!!!
This the coolest shit I've seen. this is like a drug. I have years of music theory, band, choir, guitar, and piano, but no one teaches this stuff. this is amazing.
This Is absolutely amazing , I'm really trying to build My Ear , dexterity and understanding for this material , random gigs and Even church . What Is the Theory Behind putting these left and Right hand chords together ( for this genre and in General )? How do you know that they will Automatically Work so well without Mud ? lol My fingers can get there (still need polishing ) but playing the correct thing is difficult
Hi there... i have a group of formulas that will put you in the right place... it's ALL included in the full 90-minute breakdown... Much love my friend and many blessings!!!

You know what's funny... I just told my wife that I want to eventually read one of his books, or at least watch one of the movies...lol i know absolutely nothing about him...But I hear he's amazing in the books... Thanks a lot!!! Much love!! :)
Definitely read the books. At least the first one. Once a friend finally talked me into it, I practically quit practicing until I had finished them all lol. But the movies...I advise against!
RIDICULOUS video, man! Super refreshing to listen in on this. I'd really love to hear more stuff like this in video games in the future. You're creating some really awesome textures here!
Yo kc bro I thank you so much bro again I own everything on your site and will continue to support if it wasn't for you bro I don't know what I would do thank you bro
glasper and league are two of my favorites... I've listened to MANY many hours of their music... played drums for years but now wanting to get into piano... I love that this is not a "how to play" but a "How to be creative" this is more philosophical than people can think, amazing video!
wow - somebody caught it!
exactly how i felt, the video is showing the way of how to make your own way of doing rather than telling you how to do it exactly.
So true...move until it sounds good!
It's definitely not a learn "how to play"
This is a thousand levels above me theoretically, I’m just here for the vibe 😂🙌
Wow... thanks so much for the compliment and coming back for the VIBE!!!!🔥

That part starting at 0:40 could loop over and over for the rest of my life and I'd never get tired of it!
Beautiful, rich harmonic palette, variations and textures over a drone; one note, & one scale… excellent impro reference to ‘weather report’
Thanks so much Jane!! ☀️💚
as a guitar player, it's frustrating that I can't play 10 notes at once. but very inspirational non the less.

none of those people can play more than 6 notes at once. Imagine your piano just had 6 keys, no matter how skilled you are, you can't play more than 6 notes simultaneously. Not because they're not amazing but because guitars have 6 strings.
Same! I think the key is to choose the most meaningful notes from the chords he is playing.
Sounds like you need a 10 string
As an organist, I can play 12 at once.
You should make a 20 min video just jamming to the background loop. Could listen to that all day!
You know!
Definitely haha
thats basically what this is tho not really a lesson just stuntin on us lol
If I play like that I never stop playing
It's addictive man... really it is...it's a great stress relief too... completely random and completely fun to play this style and genre!!!
prettysimplemusic what is this exact genre. I’m trying to find music that flows like this but I’m finding it tough. Your flow is amazing with these chords!
Check out Jacob Collier, he does a lot of dirty chords and has even collaborated with Snarky Puppy. His music sounds a lot like Take 6.
you should try some neo-soul (bilal, erykah badu, d'angelo, maxwell, anthony hamilton, jill scott to name a small few)

Hearing this loop and chords made me follow along with my flute and feel the sweet VIBES and before I knew I'm off into a whole new world of blue improvisation. This is such a sweet and enjoyable way to get to grips with note discovery . thank you
Awww man!!! I’d love to hear you Jam along with me!!!!

Plays all notes in the octave as a single chord 😁
Dude! I must admit u really play man. U go straight to what matters cauz u know how hard it is for us. The way u put is fantastic
5:56 LOVED THIS SEQUENCE OMG can I use them in a song?
This the coolest shit I've seen. this is like a drug. I have years of music theory, band, choir, guitar, and piano, but no one teaches this stuff. this is amazing.
This Is absolutely amazing , I'm really trying to build My Ear , dexterity and understanding for this material , random gigs and Even church . What Is the Theory Behind putting these left and Right hand chords together ( for this genre and in General )? How do you know that they will Automatically Work so well without Mud ? lol My fingers can get there (still need polishing ) but playing the correct thing is difficult
