That seems to be the best boat. The sound is mesmerizing. Thank you for sharing!
Them Allison V12s, And Merlin's sound beautiful
These old hydros are THE best ways to really hear those old Allison V-12's ,they're sweet on the aircraft but on the ground you dont get to hear them under load ,and you can hardly hear the actual beat of the engine over prop wash . I would love to see this in person one day . Until then thanks for this .
That is a beautiful machine. Art on water
Lucky people have the best toys. Glad he can share the experience. Great history.
And this boys and girls is what we call “Torque”…
Got to see her run in Detroit this year (2016) in fact was allowed to get up on her and take a few pics. Beautiful boat, I was planning to build an RC 1/10th scale shovel nose hydro this winter, it wasn't going to be U-36 but I think it will be now. Thanks for the hospitality guys.
My FAVORITE hydroplane ever!
Saw a scale model at a Dutch marketplace site. Went to investigate and boy i was not dissapointed!
Very nice boat.
Total class
Observing this boat made me realize. If we never mastered flight we would fight wars with armed wooden boats powered by packerd V12.
Surprised it didn’t get stolen while at Crater Lake.
Those people still think turn signals are illegal.
Did any one notice the different color helmets on the drivers????????
Could you imagine when went boating on a weekend you would have hire a crane just to put your boat in.
Is this the same boat that sits at the hangars at Eppley?
35 mile an hour very nice
Also ROLLS ROYCE And OFFENHAUSER
7:06 Walk those non trip chines...
Was there a sponsored name for this boat??
@@dougwells1477 ok I remember that boat.. it actually was the fastest boat in the world at one point, with Roy Duby driving
What a fiasco just putting this in the water.
I've seen bass boats that are almost that fast.
These boats were still competitive with the turbines well into the 80s and likely still would but it was getting harder and expensive to maintain an find parts, power wasn’t the problem they had plenty of head room . I’m just glad they are preserving this part of history I was lucky I grew up just outside Seattle so for as long as I can remember we watch and later would travel to the Columbia cup 4 or 5 hrs to the S.E. corner of the state.
any faster and it will flip. this is so stupid. why do people do this?
James Mr Rogers is calling from your basement, you best get moving TROLL
@@thesandman6478 I thought I was the only one that had that as a nick name/profile
There’s nothing that has the sound of these old classic big piston powered hydroplanes and it’s got to be terrifying running WOT open cockpit and the razors edge between flying with just the prop and rudders in the water and going over backwards ? Those guys where as close to test pilot / astronauts as you could get in the day , I’m not sure what the life expectancy was of just the unlimited class drivers had before the cockpit safety changes but it seemed like every year there were openings for several new drivers . At a time when there’s only 3 networks and at least in Seattle on that weekend that’s what everyone was doing or watching on the big color console tv if you were lucky enough to afford one . Thank for sharing your video
