@CostlyChris I would mention Japan but the Japanese liking Hip Hop is more reason for the Chinese not too but they would be foolish to ignore the huge global market Hip Hop provides.
@huntedrasta isn't it the same in the USA, when is the last time conscious hip hop was mainstream. The answer is it hasn't been since the movement started. The US government encourages and loves mindless commercial rap and doesn't give Hip Hop the time of day
@huntedrasta I get what your saying but it's really nothing new to global politics. Each Nation governs differently and we know how China get's down in regards to censorship. The fact that Chinese Hip Hop even emerged is impressive considering how it's acknowledge as a urban/black art form but then again it didn't get popular there in till Enimen's 8 Mile Movie came out (White America Validation) and even then it it wasn't for the Korean wave (Asian Validation) hip hop wouldn't be as popular.
Are you sure you know how to talk in Chinese? Chinese is a language with alot of dialects so it means more slangs and more ways to rhyme. Plus, in chinese alot of characters who don't mean the same but sound the same so it's even easier to rhyme in Chinese. It is possible to have poetry (shi) in Chinese, so I don't know why rap is not possible.
I wanna see a chinese rapper which dont try to be 'black' or in the stereotypical 'hip-hop' style.. we need somethin to represent us as chinese. I hope china produces a rapper which can mc without havin to wear the fat chains and the flat cap actin like he's the shit. Hope there will be a chinese rapper in the future that can have their own unique style rather than always following what america is doing.
Walmarts don't have to be indigenous either. By your logic, it's a "globally accepted type of commerce." Small businesses around the world would disagree with u. The same thing goes for this junk. u can accept whatever u like in ur personal life, but overall, it's beyond obvious that this type of crap is fulfilling a void made by the C-Rev. It displaces de need 2 know de real cultural history of China, allowing our indigenous cultures to negotiate with modernity. That's not wut this video does.
having the blacks eroded this songs credibility even more, I'm not against having blacks & whites or Chinese in a video [or anything else] just do not do it for the sake of it.
@Tekvicious Chinese history has its own tradition of dissent. We don't need to look elsewhere for that kind of thing. In fact, there is already a sizable and critical tradition of hip hop in China, defying the party line. Sadly, it's further displacing the culture and history we lost during the C-Rev. Now out youth are left with clowns like this who want to be white or black. It's disgusting.
