What I found interesting about Akechi's Confidant is that he isn't gathering information about the Phantom Thieves, but actually enjoying Akiren's company while spending time playing billiards, going to a jazz date, going to an arcade, and bathing. That's kinda irony at some point.
That's why he is so different from the other Confidants. They aren't hanging out because they want to gather information on each other (that's not their main reason). They are simply enjoying each other's company :D
And that's why I feel it's one of the best Confidants/Social Links. There's not really a subplot going on except that they are becoming rivals. It's just two guys hanging out, having fun and learning more about each other. Just feels like an actual friendship.
Yeah. That's right. There's no gathering information or making a deal. Joker just agreed to speak with him again without any hidden motives or the sort. It makes it all the more saddening when Akechi betrayed him. 😞
@@aramiren6587 Yeah, but at least Joker understood why he betrayed him and gave him another chance. The fact that he doubts so much to change reality in the third semester if you complete Akechi's Confidant says a lot. He really values their friendship, even if Akechi betrayed him once.
@@PokemonaMoni Yeah. Akechi won't admit it out loud, but he actually feels the same way about Joker. Now that they have settled the whole thing about Shido and all, they would've been able to start over. Maybe not immediately as friends, but at least as rivals at the beginning. I hope there'll be a future game where the two of them can fulfil their promise for a rematch. Speaking of which, I wonder if the other Phantom Thieves knows the extend of Joker and Akechi's bond as both friends and rivals. From what I see during the game, the third semester especially, it seems Akechi understands Joker better than any of them.
The way I see it, Akechi didn't legitimately hate Joker. He was angry because he was confused. I think his fake friendly personality throughout the ranks was just to gain Joker's trust at first, but his plan went astray when he left himself become more fascinated with Joker than sticking to the plan. He became obsessed because he didn't understand how someone could be still be kind and win, when Akechi made himself the bad guy to get all of his achievements in life. Joker is everything that he never got to be, and discovered that he heavily admired him for that. He was angry that he admired that. It's kinda sad, really. I believe Akechi told him "I hate you" to cut ties with Joker before their fake friendship became anything more. Because as we know, Akechi would never allow himself to have an actual friend. As sad as that is, there is a bit of happiness in it too. Akechi cared enough to be honest with Joker throughout the ranks, even being honest that his friendly personality towards Joker was all fake. He NEVER would've stopped his act for any other person, so that shows that he did care for Joker. Even if it was just a teaspoon size of compassion.
Then again, his attempt to cut ties with him by saying he hated him seemed to backfire. Joker wanted to fulfill his promise of a duel with him. Perhaps he knew right from the start that he didn't really mean it.
When you realise that the characters are still moving and blinking during the "I am thou, thou art I" contract scene, it makes it kind of hilarious to think that not only did Akechi hold Joker's hand for a full FIFTEEN SECONDS while talking to him, but then they stood there in silence, still holding hands, while Joker was being cosmically informed of Akechi's Arcana alignment, which is another twenty seconds or so. Over half a minute of hand-holding. Marvellous.
29:24 Another big slip-up by Akechi, "You've CAUGHT UP to me on this front already, too..." ...when supposedly he just awakened to his persona in Okumura's palace.
Akechi's Confidant should be needed to finish the first arc of the game to get the full story and if you dont do his confidant up till His fight the 3rd semester events would not happen It would be a good way to to alter things a bit
Souichi Well they work out very well because even I can’t help but think how an untainted Akechi would live in their world. It’s just kinda heartbreaking for me
31:47 "This is one of the gloves Akechi usually wears..." WOW Joker, glad you've been paying attention! So proud! Edit: Also, are we sure his face was bright red because of the bath...? Just saying lol.
Makes me wish I never watched or played Vanilla Persona 5. This would be quite surprising to find out all this information on Akechi. But now I'm going..."Well considering what happens at a certain point in the game."
I think partially for that longing is why I’m watching people blindly play through Persona 5 Royal. They never played a Persona game, much less the vanilla version of 5, so I watch their blind play throughs to see their reactions at certain parts of the game. But at the same time since they aren’t experienced, they are bound to make irritating mistakes since you already know what happens and how the game works.
I just realized most of your outings are at night and you have a curfew which means you had to be either breaking those to sneak out to go to jazz clubs with akechi or you where asking sojiro for permission. eitherway 👀
I love that Akechi last words while alive is him begging they stop Shido. It’s not a revenge or hatred action. He just wants to see justice actually done. It’s prob why he’s pissed that he got revived. He knows he shouldn’t be alive and that after playing god so long, it isn’t right to do it
Novembermann no he specifically said he ends up dead. That pretty much was the reason the situation made akechi complex. He was willing to die to see justice done. After shido he’d rather die than be a puppet
@@williamnguyen8663 no actually since no one wished Akechi to be alive and the only one who could have is Joker the player but unlike Haru or Mr. Okumura where they disappear after the Wisher realizes the reality is fake Akechi doesn't disappear he stays alive and no reality or anything breaks and the fact that Akechi stays as himself and not acting brainwashed or not under Maruki's control it's likely he is actually alive and not fake and that Maruki had no bearing in reviving Akechi considering once your character realizes it he doesn't disappear and the other characters already had the reality broke for them so they realize it's fake too so in the end it's likely Maruki had no play or involvement in reviving Akechi and the only thing he had play with was probably just giving Joker and Akechi the opportunity to meet again
Novembermann while you’d normally be right. The game works against you here. It was shown joker and all the phantom thieves did care for akechi and wished for his safe return. Joker gets shown mourning him and reminiscing on the memories making it likely Joker wished for it. Even if we went for the route that joker didn’t care, Maruki was aware of those two relationship and most likely revived him to satisfy joker. He’s not a congniton so he has free roam of the metaverse and he wouldn’t leave inside Maruki desire because everything is still in effect there. If akechi lives then he would have returned with everyone else. Akechi even deduces he’s dead himself. It’s a turning point for him even as it’s behind why he unlocks his true form. He’s done with the lies and is willing to die to see the truth. To have him survive wouldn’t make sense given the story and his character.
@@williamnguyen8663 still if he were revived by Maruki it wouldn't make sense for him to not act like that or act like himself he would have changed how he acted or his memories and whatnot like he did with Wakaba and Mr. Okumura while Akechi acts completely like himself plus based on the timing Maruki got his Persona how would he have known Akechi "Died" at all considering Shido tho you might ask why he didn't remember anything past Shido or how he got out a likely theory is that Akechi caused or triggered his own Psychotic Breakdown which is known for erasing memories it's likely Akechi just assumed he would be dead and Maruki probably only said that to lure or encourage Joker to accept his reality the other characters despite wishing Akechi would live when they're reality broke Akechi did not disappear since they never had the same connection to Akechi as Joker so yeah plus Akechi was oddly enough the only other who knows that the reality is fake in the bad ending along with Joker if he were created by Maruki as a fake he wouldn't have even known it was fake because Maruki can just change his thoughts or how he acted like he did with Mr. Okumura and Wakaba and even Madarame to en extent just to make Akechi "Happier" and with the inevitable Persona 5 Arena he'd probably be revealed there to be alive and whatnot and play a big role like they did with Aigis from P4 cause if her sheer popularity
"are you used to Gunplay?" His whole confident arc in Royal is basically us peicing together the clues to Akechi's true Identity why wasn't this in the Orginal game this would have been a great way to build up to his fight in Shido's Palace It would also make us feel more attached to him before the 3rd semester events to make us question if we should let Maruki have his reality but Akechi telling us he doesn't want petity from us would make it so we would be avenging the real Akechi
Actually in the 3rd semester it is implied it is the real Akechi mostly cause unlike with Wakaba and Mr. Okumura once your character realizes or thinks Akechi isn't real he doesn't disappear despite your character being supposedly the "Wisher" meaning no one wished for Akechi to be alive nor does Maruki have anything to do with him being alive if he did then when Joker realized it Akechi would have instantly disappeared and Maruki's reality would have broke and the fact the true ending hints Akechi survived it's likely he didn't die but thought or assumed he was only alive cause of Maruki but in reality he was actually alive for real not cause of Maruki
@@novembermann4854 actually I would hate to put a hole in it, but I think Maruki says he took the people away explicitly as keeping them going would just be torturous since they know their fake For Akechi in makes sense as it was leverage
@@Handlelesswithmethe other alternative is that Maruki didn't revive Akechi but only altered congnition so that the Police would let him walk free of charges.
Since the first time I saw Goro, I wanted to learn more things about him. The opportunity to have casual conversations with Akechi really warms my heart. This is the best way to understand a human being without bloody fights or death.. Spoilers? The jazz bar from P5A OVA brings nostalgic memories about Akira/Ren sitting there, listening to music and trying to understand the meaning of phrase "Proof of Justice". So sad at the same time...
According to SEGA's games, we all know that shirtless fistfights on rooftops and going out on town getting shit faced before singing karaoke is just how Japanese men truly bond. I guess they just toned it down since both characters are teenagers. Edit: Shitless fights are another thing altogether.
Proof of Justice fucking murdered my family man. (also i think the "proof of justice" might be an allusion to P2 Pheonix force) also they used the song and uhh man this shit is fuckin thick. []People come and they go []Some people may stay with you though []I am all alone tonight and I kept on []Asking myself questions [So this is a simple set up the song itself. akechi is self-reflecting, positing the nature of having friends. "all alone tonight" is interesting in the context in that he's quite literally spending the night with Akira but he's not being true to himself so this, in turn, makes him alone. this odd state of being with someone but not *being* moves akechi to reflect on himself.] []Conceited I was at a time []I never really doubted myself []But tonight got me thinking about it all []If I am the fool or whatnot [akechi is conceited but confident in himself. however being with someone like Akira has him really considering his approach whether or not he's being a fool, A "fool" though has a lot more meaning than just being foolish as its probably evoking the fool card: the Fool Arcana The Fool represents new beginnings, having faith in the future, being inexperienced, not knowing what to expect, having beginner's luck, improvisation and believing in the universe. upright: Beginnings, Spontaneity, Originality, Innocence, Leap of faith reversed: Naivety, Poor judgment, Folly, Lack of direction, Stupidity, Chaos the fool is assigned to Loki in persona 3 and is the ultimate form of the fool in persona 4 The player is also the fool arcana along with arcene (as it is in p3 and 4)] []I do not []Regret with my choices I'm rather proud []Ooh yet I know I won't change []Anything []Because I can only be me so [So this feeds back into another statement I have about akechi not really regretting the murders or any of his actions really. Akechi did what he did in full knowledge and capacity of himself and its why he reacts so poorly to concepts of pity and mercy. His actions were driven by his being and in some regard are one and the same. so when people pity him or give him mercy or retract his involvement or undermine his agency in regards to that he takes it as an inherent disrespect to his personhood.] []How can I be so sure? []At a crossroads, I'm afraid too []But I can't let fear get the best of me []Someone once said burn my dread, babe [God this fucking section is so good. akechi questions if he truly has the conviction to kill Joker he's afraid too, afraid of dying, afraid of losing what is the most tangible connection he's had to this world outside of his revenge for his father. But he can't let his desires for this connection to sway who he is and what he is going to do. "Someone once said burn my dread babe." this reference, this reference is exceptional and adds this heartbreaking edge to jokers execution. p3s opening theme " burn my dread" which states the thesis of P3 "memento mori". remembering that death is inevitable and that disconnecting yourself from things that bind you to a fear of death can free you. "Memento Mori. Remember you will die. Remember your death." this line is in my interpretation is Goro akechi rationalizing killing joker as a kind of weird momento mori. akechi is on a death path and killing joker was a means of freeing him from a fear of death or more importantly a fear of loss. garnering control over his own emotions and desires to be alive or to be with joker, a necessary step to boldening his convictions to enact revenge and retributions on shido. To burn your dread, to remove your fears, to free yourself. Akira being a memento mori for akechi is why your bond with him grows once he fucking kills you. Akira becomes a reminder of everything akechi has to lose if he fails in seeking revenge. Also, side note the ", babe." could infer that akechi is maybe referring to Akira?] []Who knows what tomorrow holds? []Just wanna live my life the way I want []What fills up my soul is passionate []Music that makes me want to sing [Pulling from momento mori the idea that life is fleeting that goro must live his life in this pursuit of passion. the passion to seek revenge on his father enacting this perfect divine punishment. The power to kill and free himself from that which holds him back and challenges who he is. Akechi must fill himself with this music, this song. Akechi must truly exist as himself.] []My story will be starring me just like yours ooh ooh []Who knows when will it end []What matters most is how you bring joy to life so [Goro akechi is also a protagonist he's a wild card just like all the protagonists Goro is aware of this he understands that they're truly at an impasse in finality to Akechi's short lament, he re-enters the present situation, his time with Akira. he doesn't know when he'll have to end Akira when anything he is will come to fruition or when he'll die. But he knows, for now, he can take respite in what joy, as simple and fleeting they are, he can find in his relationship with Akira and what he can give in return.] Even the title of the song: []"No more what ifs" it brings to mind akechis conflicting desire to have things go differently but his rejection in believing in falsehoods and staying faithful to himself and his truths. []"under different circumstances, we could have been great rivals or even friends" []"I wonder why we couldn't have met a few years earlier..."
I have mixed feelings about this post cause don't do Ryuji like that but at the same time Akechi's confidant feels more like a real friendship. In other confidants Joker is only there to help them with their problems or gather info, while with Akechi they just hangout, talk, and enjoy each others company. Akechi's social link is the only one that feels like a friendship.
AngelFromTheNightmare Ryuji cries because he's so thankful about Ren, Yusuke takes the picture. Ren and Ryuji are best friends essentially, but due to the type of person he is, Ren feels empathetic towards Akechi and wishes to help him. He clearly feels guilt about his "death" at the ship and wishes things could've been different.
I love what they did with his confidant. His character development is amazing and I genuinely enjoyed playing darts, pool and especially the Jazz Club with him. Heck I even attribute the theme of the jazz club to him. Spoiler alert if you have not passed his max rank scene: The third semester made me want to cry at the last day because I actually went back to say goodbye to the jazz club. The jazz club greeter is there and he asks about Akechi and why he hasn’t seen him. Akira/Ren you can tell actually stays silent and doesn’t bring it up. The jazz club guy then says, “If you ever see him, please give him my regards to come back.” After That, Ren/Akira actually takes out the glove signifying he still had the glove and is awaiting and questioning when they can have the opportunity to do a duel again. I was actually angry because they never brought that topic up again since the main focus was on the main antagonist for the third semester. However Joker genuinely questions and wonders every so often when they will have the duel in the third semester. Either way his confidant has become my favorite confidant of P5 Royal. They did an amazing job making him shine once again! So Atlus, thank you!
I would definitely take the akechi route if he was a romantic option. Like the sexual tension and flirting is undeniable, more than most of the girls anyway.
It’s crazy how this confidant feels the most like we’re just two friends hanging out and having conversations whiles opening up little by little. Like I love the other confidants but it really just feels like I’m only there to fix their problems. Like yes Akechi confides in use about his past but it’s just that no transactional relationship just talking, I didn’t need to help him with some random problem involving random people I don’t know. It was actually quite refreshing but ironic because I feel like he’s the person that needs to ask us for help the most.
Ranks in a nutshell: Rank 1: *argues* "You've given me a lot to think about." Rank 2: *plays pool* "Thank you. I learned a lot from you." Rank 3: *messes up hair* "I've learned a valuable lesson from you." Rank 4: *goes to jazz club* "I have to think about your opinions." Rank 5: *plays shooter game* I have a lot to think about." Rank 6: *takes bath together and confesses depressing back story* "We're great friends." Rank 7: *billiards* "You wanna abandon your teammates?" Rank 8: *fights* "I hate you." Rank 9: *is back to kill* "~I understand him better~" Rank 10: *sacrifices self to save protagonist* Blood oath time!!!
Akechi: Is this your first time playing billards? Ryuji: Nah, I've done this before. Watch 'n learn! **Swings the cue stick like a fucking baseball bat and snaps it over the pool table**
I have a really bad feeling that when I get my hands on the game I'm gonna ignore everyone even Kasumi to hang out with my sweet pancakes boy...In the original I hung out with Kawakami,Ann and Chihaya to get them to lvl 10 really fast but now I'll be like: Ohhhh PANKCAKE BOY IS AVAILABLE!!!! I'm so gonna ignore everything new because of akechi. And the rest will be like: What about us? He's so adorable...
tbh....everytime Aketchi requested to meet, i just agreed and ignored the rest. xD It was way to difficult to just ignore his message. But i had Kasumi at these rank 5 fast and maruki, so i wouldn't miss the chance to get the 3rd semester either xDD
31:00 I actually really like this part. Akechi drops his pleasant detective facade and intentionally shows Ren his true colors Sure he's petty, bitter and spiteful...but most importantly genuine. It symbolizes he really has grown close to Ren.
I like Akechi but I keep that part away from others because I know a lot of people don’t actually like him. I will always like him and no one can change that, but I will do it in the shadows.
Despite everything I’m so glad we get to know him! I loved Akechi even from the beginning of the game and even if he was behind the psychotic breakdowns. I honestly thought that there was more to him and P5R really shows that. I’m so glad he gets the redemption he deserves and that people are starting to like him as a character/villain ❤️
@@aramiren6587 To get the True ending you gotta max all the new Confidants. For Akechi new Persona you got to pick the right choices after beating him and the following day in bed
@@yilinchua8205 There are already many who chose "I'll think about it", so I want to know how Akechi's reaction would be if Joker choose "You're my rival".
@@aegis5678 Right, that's precisely the vibe I got too. If you don't complete his confidant through rank 8, it's easier for him to resign himself to his fate and accept his death. But if you promise Akechi you'll duel him again (and subsequently go on to tell him you'll hold on to that promise _right before_ he dies), suddenly the idea of his "final enemy" being cognitive Akechi doesn't feel as satisfying or appropriate anymore, does it? NOW he has motivation to keep on living, but he can't, so his final words reflect his uncertainty and regrets.
Well, we'll have to wait until Persona 5 Royal releases onto Steam. Until then, there's that Yosuke romance Mod for Persona 4 Golden that i heard about.
I agree honestly I am straight, and not a shipper. Yet, their is a hell of a lot of sexual between them. I mean hell Atlus why do you got to do that to us, and not let it play out
I love how vulnerable Akechi is with Akira during his dates, showing him his comfort place, taking a bath together and just doing normal activities with each other, makes you think how much of a normal person Akechi can be with someone he cares for.
I've been thinking about rank 7 a lot, I have a hard feeling that this was the last piece of sanity Akechi had in regards of the protagonist. He already knew what he needed to do and tried to save him, in his own selfish way. I feel a strong control issue here, he doesn't care about the other thieves, just Joker. It's both terrifying and interesting.
i feel like akechi was also rationalizing to himself that joker would've been a great asset to his revenge plan instead of like. you know, the fact that he actually likes joker and doesn't want to hurt him. joker turning him down probably hurt his pride even more and his jealousy/hate reared its ugly head to rationalize what the heck happens next.
Biowoman Let me tell you he indeed took me out three times in the original. One during the first palace and the other two during interrogation do to ill choices...
Since the beginning I love Akechi even if he did what he did. I’m so happy he gets redemption in p5r, he’s honestly one of the best characters in persona. I also like that you get to know him a little more ❤️
a funnythings is that the manga mementos missions reveals that Akira asks help to Akechi for some "mission", giving him books, coffee, curry in exchange of informations and deduction (also Ren crossdresses at a point and enjoys a lot to do it while Akechi is laughing hard XD) and he even propose to help him to find a dangerous killer who attacks people in the street but only if Akechi accepts to fish with him. X
I'm surprised with how they know akechi's betrayal will happen from the beginning, I'm surprised Morgana didn't atleast tell the others or tailed them secretly in mememtos, it's still a precious moment for akechi and joker, but overall wise, I find it odd that Morgana wasn't too put off by him saying meet him down there
So fun fact: Something bugged me about the part when Akechi throws his glove at you. The way he hides his hand made me think they didn't create a model with only one glove and decided to hide his hand to be sneaky. But this is half right. In the frames of him throwing the glove at you his hand visibly turns gloveless but a single frame just before it's hidden from view it suddenly turns back to black. I dunno if it was a technical issue they couldn't fix or if it's just a coincidence, but it's funny to point out.
I was in mementons with Akechi and we came across a door we couldn’t open and morgana said as long as we stay active it should open eventually and I was like but Akechi thinks we’re gonna disband in a week is he not gonna say anything
One tiny detail people might have missed is that in the original or (allegedly since i don't own nor play the game only hearsay) when you hadn't completed the requirement for the third semester, when he sacrificed himself he accepted his death saying that dying from a puppet version of himself as "not bad" but when you manage to get the requirement for it, he changed it into "I....." Indicating his reluctance to die. Nice right! Sorry for bad english
Joker and Crow, two sides of the same coin. Inside them I see a remarkable potential, so wide it frightens even me. And their looks, both are... extremely attractive.
Though I can see how people can ship these two, I can't help but think Akechi's the type who refuses to accept anymore good things into his life. Even after Maruki's interferance, he would stick to his own personal sense of justice despite it being a warped version of one. He knew the consequences of his actions; allowing himself to take the fall, not necessarily out of affection or camaraderie, but his own convictions of justice. He sees that he doesn't deserve to be saved at this point. No amount of Maruki's fixing of things could ever make him change his mind. The amount of injustice Shido did cannot be undone as Akechi would see himself a hypocrite if he would be made to walk free. His hatred for the protagonist was due to the fact that Akechi saw him as someone he wanted to be. The protagonist himself encapsulates everything that Akechi couldn't do. In that sense, both protagonist and Akechi understood each other. But that's it. The irony here is that the only means of redeeming himself of his actions is to make him take all the anger and blame for what he did and what he had to go through. To be honest though, I still can't ship it. Not when he'd be the kind who would reject any hand offered to him.
I agree with most of what you said, but I can't help but ship it. You make an interesting point about Akechi unwilling to accept help or kindness (something he's not used to receiving)... so Joker-Pancakes wouldn't work out in the long run (if Akechi stays the same person he is in P5. You see him start to change slightly near the end) I think if given more time, being around Joker would get Akechi some much needed character development; it would've changed the latter's bleak outlook on life. Perhaps the rest of the Phantom Thieves could slowly be a positive influence too if he'd let them. This may be wishful thinking, but Akechi made me pity him despite being responsible for serious crimes (and rightfully deserve to go to jail). I was hoping he'd atone for his sins and get some redemption agghggh Even if you don't ship the gay, there's no denying Joker and Akechi have a lot of chemistry together as characters. They are both similar and the opposites at the same time; they share a special bond that runs deeper than any other of the Phantom Thieves and Social Links. A captivating frenemy/rival/friend sort of relationship, as it were. It's obvious Akechi loves and hates Joker at the same time with a fierce intensity.
@@aureliuszeta3037 well, redemption arcs in general isn't always a tale that ends sweetly. For most cases I think characters like Akechi already redeemed themselves in a story standpoint the very moment they choose to accept the burden of responsibility of their actions. Royal changes the gamers' perspective of Akechi from a villain into something some of us (if not, most) into a respectable character. To be redeemed before the characters is when the former villain finally earns both the trust and respect from the people whom he had done wrong to. I hope that makes sense.
@@TheSingingBUn It does. Royal helped flesh out Akechi's character, which improved the story greatly. I just think that his arc was done quite sloppily in P5, and the aftermath was disappointing. I can appreciate a tragic redemption arc if it's done well, which I can't say is the case here. Akechi started out strong, but lost steam at the end. I think it's because Shido was a one-dimensional character who was evil and corrupt just because, with no redeeming features. His connection with Akechi lessened the impact of the latter. P5 would've been better if they focused the antagonist role on Akechi rather than Shido.
Akechi is far from my favorite character, but I think he's pretty interesting. It took a while for me to get just why he was trying to one-up me so aggressively (seriously? with your nondominant hand?) and then I realized this guy's insecure in a way that I'm definitely no stranger to. "Going all-out against a junior is a bit gauche..." Nah, he just wanted to one-up us. Rank 8 proves it--he's highly insecure and desperate to prove himself. To whom? Himself, of course. Again, he's insecure as hell, that's why he doesn't challenge Ren with his dominant hand, but instead challenges him to battle. He can't afford to be beaten at billiards by Ren, the blow to his self esteem would be wayyy too much. I think it's interesting how he hinges his self-esteem on others ("I am an Ace Detective... a celebrity!!") and how he clearly doesn't actually dislike Ren--Morgana calls him out explicitly on this. I always read it as resenting Ren for being better than him at anything, because that means Akechi is the "inferior" person he's always been seen as. And also, I imagine, feeling vulnerable for once. He's more honest with Ren than he is anyone else, and since he doesn't really have any other friends to speak of, I imagine it might be an uncomfortable experience. Also, "I've never told anyone else about my family situation, either. I wonder why I told you? Curious indeed..." lmao to him thinking out loud. He has a friend for the first time and immediately drops lore bombs about himself on him. I've seen that before, people do that a lot. Not that I'm complaining. I like learning, and learning about people is not an exception. I watched this to get to know him better. I did max out his social link, but I didn't care for him like I did some of the other characters. (Yoshizawa, Futaba, Makoto, Ryuji, Maruki)--I only thought I liked him at Rank 8. I just got caught off guard by his last name being that of Akechi Mitsuhide, the man who betrayed Oda Nobunaga, and knew to keep an eye on him. I don't think my opinion of him has changed, but the refresher is nice. I love P5R. Charming game.
"I'm going to be entirely honest with you: I hate you." Okay, all jokes aside, I was legit shocked when he said that. I mean, we all knew he hated Joker, but to hear him say that in his calm, collected voice, instead of screaming it in that top quality voice acting, it took me by surprise for some reason
Creators, at beginning: OK, WE ARE NICE NOW! :3 Creators at the end: What was that? Save him? You mean save her? Praise Hashino!! It’s not like we have no more use for him after the new palace...
Honestly, theres only thing I don't like about akechi's confidant in the Royal dlc. Right after he says something along the lines of "so.. my final enemy is a puppet version of myself..." He originally said "not bad.." Now he just says "I-"
Probably to make Akechi’s fate more open to whether or not he survived, especially after the true ending. The original seemed more of an acknowledgement that he knew he was going to die, whereas Royal is left for you to decide after making your bond with him as true rivals till the end.
@@WestCoastGamer64 Right, that's precisely the vibe I got too. If you don't complete his confidant through rank 8, he'll say "not bad" since it's easier for him to resign himself to his fate and accept his death because he has nothing left to live for. And thus can find solace in the fact that his final enemy was the puppet he used to be. It's a satisfying end if you turn out not to be that close by this point. However, if you promise Akechi you'll duel him again (and subsequently go on to tell him you'll hold on to that promise _right before_ he dies), suddenly the idea of his "final enemy" being cognitive Akechi doesn't feel as satisfying or appropriate anymore, does it? NOW he has legititmate motivation to keep on living, but he can't, so his final words reflect his uncertainty and regrets. Hence the jumbled "I...!"

Critical, Joker's hp is cut to 1/3 Akechi: Bitch slap. Joker is almost dead. I get the impression that Akechi isn't a fan of Joker using items to cheese his boss fight.
Ya know I went back to play this again and realized something. The "I am thou" portion seemed noticeably slower for both Akechi, and both Royal exclusive characters. Really interesting since they all play important story roles.
38:50 did they add this new line of dialogue? it feels new because it basically confirms that Akechi is a wild card. eXcEpT hE dOeSn'T uSe It In ThIrD sEmEsTeR
He is a wildcard, but he can't use more than two persona because he never cared to form bonds, therefore he is not allowed on the velvetroom. What makes Joker so powerful is his bonds.
Akechi NEVER hated Akiren. He killed him because it was the only way to achieve his lifelong goal, fuelled by hatred and resent. Without the inevitable demise of shido, who is goro akechi?? What is he without his vengeful motivations?? What is he to do if not resort to any means necessary to achieve his goals? He saved the phantom thieves, and that could not have been entirely out of self fulfillment and righteousness. Goro himself wishes to have met him earlier, because he feels a tinge of regret for the way things went, the ways he hurt people, and the way things had to end. anyways sorry for rambling i have been hyperfixated on Persona 5 for a week now ignore this

AHAHAHHA XD

Holy fuck I wrote an essay.
From what I remember, the game director said himself that joker is the only person akechi cared about in a game so you're not wrong
@@bellatrix1408 awww that's kinda sweet.
Two sides of the same coin
Marvellous.

I love that Akechi last words while alive is him begging they stop Shido. It’s not a revenge or hatred action. He just wants to see justice actually done. It’s prob why he’s pissed that he got revived. He knows he shouldn’t be alive and that after playing god so long, it isn’t right to do it
Sadly for him he is actually alive no matter what since even without the other reality he still lived in the end
"are you used to Gunplay?"
His whole confident arc in Royal is basically us peicing together the clues to Akechi's true Identity why wasn't this in the Orginal game this would have been a great way to build up to his fight in Shido's Palace
It would also make us feel more attached to him before the 3rd semester events to make us question if we should let Maruki have his reality but Akechi telling us he doesn't want petity from us would make it so we would be avenging the real Akechi
Shelby Bayer it’s ironic because in the 3rd semester arc, Akechi is a darker example of his arcana upright.
Petity?
@@novembermann4854 actually I would hate to put a hole in it, but I think Maruki says he took the people away explicitly as keeping them going would just be torturous since they know their fake
For Akechi in makes sense as it was leverage
@@Handlelesswithmethe other alternative is that Maruki didn't revive Akechi but only altered congnition so that the Police would let him walk free of charges.

(also i think the "proof of justice" might be an allusion to P2 Pheonix force)
also they used the song and uhh man this shit is fuckin thick.
[]People come and they go
[]Some people may stay with you though
[]I am all alone tonight and I kept on
[]Asking myself questions
[So this is a simple set up the song itself. akechi is self-reflecting, positing the nature of having friends.
"all alone tonight" is interesting in the context in that he's quite literally spending the night with Akira but he's not being true to himself so this, in turn, makes him alone. this odd state of being with someone but not *being* moves akechi to reflect on himself.]
[]Conceited I was at a time
[]I never really doubted myself
[]But tonight got me thinking about it all
[]If I am the fool or whatnot
[akechi is conceited but confident in himself.
however being with someone like Akira has him really considering his approach whether or not he's being a fool, A "fool" though has a lot more meaning than just being foolish as its probably evoking the fool card:
the Fool Arcana
The Fool represents new beginnings, having faith in the future, being inexperienced, not knowing what to expect, having beginner's luck, improvisation and believing in the universe.
upright:
Beginnings, Spontaneity, Originality, Innocence, Leap of faith
reversed:
Naivety, Poor judgment, Folly, Lack of direction, Stupidity, Chaos
the fool is assigned to Loki in persona 3 and is the ultimate form of the fool in persona 4
The player is also the fool arcana along with arcene (as it is in p3 and 4)]
[]I do not
[]Regret with my choices I'm rather proud
[]Ooh yet I know I won't change
[]Anything
[]Because I can only be me so
[So this feeds back into another statement I have about akechi not really regretting the murders or any of his actions really.
Akechi did what he did in full knowledge and capacity of himself and its why he reacts so poorly to concepts of pity and mercy.
His actions were driven by his being and in some regard are one and the same. so when people pity him or give him mercy or retract his involvement or undermine his agency in regards to that he takes it as an inherent disrespect to his personhood.]
[]How can I be so sure?
[]At a crossroads, I'm afraid too
[]But I can't let fear get the best of me
[]Someone once said burn my dread, babe
[God this fucking section is so good.
akechi questions if he truly has the conviction to kill Joker
he's afraid too, afraid of dying, afraid of losing what is the most tangible connection he's had to this world outside of his revenge for his father.
But he can't let his desires for this connection to sway who he is and what he is going to do.
"Someone once said burn my dread babe."
this reference, this reference is exceptional and adds this heartbreaking edge to jokers execution.
p3s opening theme " burn my dread" which states the thesis of P3 "memento mori". remembering that death is inevitable and that disconnecting yourself from things that bind you to a fear of death can free you.
"Memento Mori. Remember you will die. Remember your death."
this line is in my interpretation is Goro akechi rationalizing killing joker as a kind of weird momento mori. akechi is on a death path and killing joker was a means of freeing him from a fear of death or more importantly a fear of loss.
garnering control over his own emotions and desires to be alive or to be with joker, a necessary step to boldening his convictions to enact revenge and retributions on shido.
To burn your dread, to remove your fears, to free yourself.
Akira being a memento mori for akechi is why your bond with him grows once he fucking kills you.
Akira becomes a reminder of everything akechi has to lose if he fails in seeking revenge.
Also, side note the ", babe." could infer that akechi is maybe referring to Akira?]
[]Who knows what tomorrow holds?
[]Just wanna live my life the way I want
[]What fills up my soul is passionate
[]Music that makes me want to sing
[Pulling from momento mori the idea that life is fleeting that goro must live his life in this pursuit of passion.
the passion to seek revenge on his father enacting this perfect divine punishment.
The power to kill and free himself from that which holds him back and challenges who he is.
Akechi must fill himself with this music, this song.
Akechi must truly exist as himself.]
[]My story will be starring me just like yours ooh ooh
[]Who knows when will it end
[]What matters most is how you bring joy to life so
[Goro akechi is also a protagonist he's a wild card just like all the protagonists
Goro is aware of this he understands that they're truly at an impasse
in finality to Akechi's short lament, he re-enters the present situation, his time with Akira.
he doesn't know when he'll have to end Akira when anything he is will come to fruition or when he'll die.
But he knows, for now, he can take respite in what joy, as simple and fleeting they are, he can find in his relationship with Akira and what he can give in return.]
Even the title of the song:
[]"No more what ifs"
it brings to mind akechis conflicting desire to have things go differently but his rejection in believing in falsehoods and staying faithful to himself and his truths.
[]"under different circumstances, we could have been great rivals or even friends"
[]"I wonder why we couldn't have met a few years earlier..."

*cries in ryuji*
they're more like uhh soulmates or something, like two sides of the same coin.
"doubles" in Persona terms
Akechi is Akira’s brother(metaphorically) and Ryuji is his best friend
I have mixed feelings about this post cause don't do Ryuji like that but at the same time Akechi's confidant feels more like a real friendship. In other confidants Joker is only there to help them with their problems or gather info, while with Akechi they just hangout, talk, and enjoy each others company. Akechi's social link is the only one that feels like a friendship.
AngelFromTheNightmare I mean they’re brothers. The game references that a lot they mention it a lot their showtime says it everywhere.
Spoiler alert if you have not passed his max rank scene:
The third semester made me want to cry at the last day because I actually went back to say goodbye to the jazz club.

I hope someday Atlus give us the Akechi romantic option, just like Jun in Persona 2 ❤️

@@spongirothonaonewingedbeac7166 Who cares?
I love how vulnerable Akechi is with Akira during his dates, showing him his comfort place, taking a bath together and just doing normal activities with each other, makes you think how much of a normal person Akechi can be with someone he cares for.
Goddammit Akechi, you're hard to love, but you're harder to hate.
15:34 I howled, that was way too funny given context lol
Biowoman Let me tell you he indeed took me out three times in the original. One during the first palace and the other two during interrogation do to ill choices...
@@youtubewatcher4955 What?
I'm surprised with how they know akechi's betrayal will happen from the beginning, I'm surprised Morgana didn't atleast tell the others or tailed them secretly in mememtos, it's still a precious moment for akechi and joker, but overall wise, I find it odd that Morgana wasn't too put off by him saying meet him down there
The moment Akechi came back looking like Joker, I put down my controller for an hour I was laughing so hard
Atlus is pretty good with silent protagonists, what with Tatsuya and Ren being both very charming for two kids who barely have any voice lines LMAO
So fun fact:
Something bugged me about the part when Akechi throws his glove at you.
I love how Akechi already figured out everything by Rank 1.
"Well I'll need as much practice as I can get if I'm going to take you out."
Hmm....THAT'S NOT SUSPICIOUS OR ANYTHING!!!
akechi seems like an exhausting friend to have LOL
They did a great job fleshing out Akechi.
Bro I be crying on rank 8 & 10
31:00 I wonder if this guy is the villain
3:18 hey that's my birthday and the birthday I gave the protags in my games

I hate that I love that this is the first video I've seen from your channel just to see that you've named your protag "Harem 2.0".
*It seems the detective Akechi has taken a liking to me...*
**Fast forward to interrogation**
Sae: ... Why are you crying??
Literally inverted justice. The look of the berserker armor fits perfectly
TheSingingBUn Yeah, I’m with you on that
I agree with most of what you said, but I can't help but ship it. You make an interesting point about Akechi unwilling to accept help or kindness (something he's not used to receiving)... so Joker-Pancakes wouldn't work out in the long run (if Akechi stays the same person he is in P5. You see him start to change slightly near the end)
I think if given more time, being around Joker would get Akechi some much needed character development; it would've changed the latter's bleak outlook on life. Perhaps the rest of the Phantom Thieves could slowly be a positive influence too if he'd let them. This may be wishful thinking, but Akechi made me pity him despite being responsible for serious crimes (and rightfully deserve to go to jail). I was hoping he'd atone for his sins and get some redemption agghggh
Even if you don't ship the gay, there's no denying Joker and Akechi have a lot of chemistry together as characters.
Interesting analysis
"I'm going to be entirely honest with you: I hate you."
Okay, all jokes aside, I was legit shocked when he said that. I mean, we all knew he hated Joker, but to hear him say that in his calm, collected voice, instead of screaming it in that top quality voice acting, it took me by surprise for some reason

Honestly, theres only thing I don't like about akechi's confidant in the Royal dlc. Right after he says something along the lines of "so.. my final enemy is a puppet version of myself..."
He originally said "not bad.."
Now he just says "I-"
Probably to make Akechi’s fate more open to whether or not he survived, especially after the true ending.

However, Having Maruki Confidant Rank 10, Yoshizawa Rank 6 above and Akechi Rank 10 will result Akechi is still very much alive and The Protagonist's testimony will be taken as the evidence by Akechi himself to Uncover Shido's Crimes after Yaldabaoth has been Defeated.
Clearing The Very Last Palace will unlock a True Ending where The Protagonist still daydreaming if he met Akechi Again.
A glimpse of Goro Akechi be seen in true ending but he vanished seconds after P5 Hero seeing it indicating He Might have been Died in Diet Building due to Shido's Palace Destruction.

I get the impression that Akechi isn't a fan of Joker using items to cheese his boss fight.
It took me almost 18 minutes into this video to realise that 2.0 isn't Achechi's nickname for joker and you get to choose what people call joker
Sae gave you a big hint: I can't believe you evaded the police's network UNTIL TODAY.
Ya know I went back to play this again and realized something. The "I am thou" portion seemed noticeably slower for both Akechi, and both Royal exclusive characters. Really interesting since they all play important story roles.
