People complaining how they don’t have some ingredients in their local asian/Korean market............bro I don’t even have a local asian/Korean market tf💀💀
Just made this and it is absolutely delicious! I added garlic , soy sauce , salt , pepper , cayenne pepper, brown sugar & used tomato paste instead 😍😍😍
Wow ive been watching ttobokki videos that are so complex and i dont have half the ingredients at my local asian mart , but this is so simple ! Im definitely going to try it!
yeah, i mean in normal tteobokki you add anchovies and kelp and so on to give it a more seafood flavour, but whenever i make tteobokki i make it only with gochujang because i like it's spicy flavour
I don’t have gochujang so I always make my own and it still turns out delicious! And I also make my own rice cakes, it does take me a while but I’m used to it because I make tortillas😭
I would think most Asian markets will have this but I can't say 100% that every Asian market has it :( But any Korean market will definitely have it if that helps? Haha
I wonna try the rice cakes but I don’t like spicy stuff so what sauce would I put with it ? I’ve never had them before but really would like to try them!
i mean you can add less gochujang in, or i suppose if you don't want gocujang at all then have it with any other sauce? I know kiri mochi and honey is quite popular, (kiri mochi is basically made of rice flour like tteokbokki). you could put it in soup and stuff too i suppose
Is there something you can add in place of the pepper paste? Even with a small amount it’s still way too hot for me. But I looove rice cakes - I just can’t find a good way to eat them. Thanks in advance.
My sister and I love this dish but the spice makes it unenjoyable. I am searching for a spicy replacement as well and will update you when I find a solution!
@@SaraeRaveen oh hi lol. I forgot about this. Well I did some researching and I found that you can make a soy sauce based version. It's called "royal tteokbokki" I think. I havent tried it yet but I'm sure it is just as good!
@@bmrjma2144 Try looking for a recipe for "royal tteokbokki" its soy sauce base so not spicy, but probably just as good! Will try to remember to let you know when I try it
I’ve made tteokbokki before, but it was sooo spicy, but I really love the sauce. Does someone know how to make it less spicy? Unfortunately I can’t really handle spicy food, so yeah :(
I might have to do that cause I literally just made this 30 mins ago and my tummy is NOT happy. Never had such an instant reaction from something before and I didn’t even use a full tablespoon.
Elliott Kane oh lol I’m lucky I have an asian fam so I usually have access to all the ingredients. They usually aren’t available at western supermarkets(Walmart, metro, etc.) so try one that’s like run by asians specifically Koreans
Thats because in korean ( ㄱ ) - which means ( mostly k but sometimes g ) in English is pronounced as g in Korean not full g its a mix of g and k...i hope you understand lol
Sorry to ask but I brought gochujang and some how it taste so sweet... is that how it suppose to taste like? It’s called Chung Jung One Chili Sauce, Korean, Gochujang
People complaining how they don’t have some ingredients in their local asian/Korean market............bro I don’t even have a local asian/Korean market tf💀💀
i bought my gochujang from a mexican market. just check the asian aisles of whatever store you have!
@@21AriaW in my country they only sell like rice flour, sushi rice, soy sauce, etc.. basically its impossible to find a lot of asian stuff
I moved but the place I use to stay in had an asian marker and I love asian food but now I won't be able to find anything I need because I moved.
Same sis ! We don't have any korean related food in my state!

Nice, simple, but thoroughly explained video. Now I don’t feel so intimidated to make tteokbokki. Been wanting to try it for so long! Thank you!
Holy moly. I just made this expecting it to be just OK but it’s so good. Better than the other ones I’ve tried on UA-cam.

Ivy yup! i found a Korean supermarket! thanks for replying back!! 🥰☺️
I wonna try the rice cakes but I don’t like spicy stuff so what sauce would I put with it ? I’ve never had them before but really would like to try them!
u can use the spicy ramen sauce!
I like the tteokbokki but the sauce to hot. Is there some other kind of sauce I could use? Thank you
i mean you can add less gochujang in, or i suppose if you don't want gocujang at all then have it with any other sauce? I know kiri mochi and honey is quite popular, (kiri mochi is basically made of rice flour like tteokbokki). you could put it in soup and stuff too i suppose
You could try a black bean sauce! They are a little less spicy :)
I bought soy bean sauce, I less spicy, I'll make some and tell you how is it
Was the tteok frozen or not? I have some tteok frozen but i don’t know if I ended to defrost them first or not
Can you add ramen in it when you are cooking it or separate
Gochuchang and rice cake where i buy ? Korean store ?
The liquid around my rice cakes never seems to thicken but I did the same exact thing as you. Should I cook my rice cakes for more than 7mins?
I cooked mine for 13 minutes and they were PERFECT!!
Nice mic 10/10 🤗
Do you boil the rice cakes beforehand? To soften them?
just one question, can I substitute the hot pepper paste with tomato paste? or make my own paste?
Is this still possible to make without the gochujang?
Can i make it not spicy :((
tomato paste.

if you don’t add the pepper paste does anything happen?
It's just gonna be boiled rice cake with cheese
do i need to boil the rice cakes before doing this or just leave it out for a while?
Enjoyed it but put a little bit of butter so it smooths out and is a little creamier.
Simple
any kind of cheese would do? or only mozzarella cheese?
I think any cheese but people prefer mozzarella
what do the rice cakes taste like? also my j-mart doesn’t have rice cakes 😖😖😖😔😔
Where do you buy the white rice cakes?
Joana Weeknd Asian markets carry them or I’ve seen them on Amazon
I've seen and bought at Walmart.
Joana Weeknd At the Asian Market, if you want to get them immediately. But, Amazon sells them too if you don't mind waiting.
If you have one within a reasonable distance, then try HMart
Instead of the Korean pepper paste can I use tomatoe paste??
Can I use green paste?
If you dont have the pepper paste i suggest 1-2 tbs of hot sauce with double the amount of ketchup!
do we set our stove to low medium for high when we're cooking?
(it looks so good)
CocoBerri i don’t think so just put water and the sugar
I usually set it on medium whenever I cook mine :))
Can i fine them in suriname the rice cake?
Can I use tomato paste to make less spicy?
Love it! Is it possible to make tteokbokki less spicy?
korean tomato paste
What to add if i dont have the red pepper korean paste
You say in the video 2 tbs of sugar, but in your description box it says 2 tps, so which one is it?
Thank you so much for this video most of the other videos are really complicated
Gonna make this tomorrow but with more water and add pack of ramen at the end
can you make spicy tteokbokki but with chili powder? (sorry I'm late)
I’ve made tteokbokki before, but it was sooo spicy, but I really love the sauce. Does someone know how to make it less spicy? Unfortunately I can’t really handle spicy food, so yeah :(
add less gochujang aacording to your liking
My rice cakes are frozen so should I soak them in water or defrost them?
yes. always thaw frozen rice cakes in a water soak :)
do you precook the tteokbokki?? or just put them directly in to the sauce once out of packaging?
Clarice Wang straight into the sauce honeiiii
can i use a different kind of cheese and not mozarella?
Can I double up the amount? or will it make the taste worst?
Is it super spicy?
How spicy is it?
Can i use a wooden spoon for stirring♥
BANGTAN_STAN UwU yes
If I were to double the recipe (for two people) would four tablespoons of gochujang be to much, and would 2 1/2 cups of water (3/4 • 2) be to much..?
can I use any kind of cheese?
i can’t eat spicy food and i really want to try this tho 🥺🥺. is there a way to make a non spicy version?
You can make a soy sauce tteokbokki.
You could probably substitute the gochujang with tomato paste
Can we make Poutine Rice cake ?
Can you use ketchup instead of the paste??? I know it’s weird but I can’t find the paste!
THANKS SO MUCH :D
is this spicy? coz i cant eat spicy food and i really really want to try this recipe.
Yea but u can make it less spicy by adding less paste
hello people. if you are weak like myself and dont like too spicy, replace 1tbsp of gochujang with ketchup instead. still tastes amazing
I might have to do that cause I literally just made this 30 mins ago and my tummy is NOT happy. Never had such an instant reaction from something before and I didn’t even use a full tablespoon.
Can I make teokbokki that is not spicy??
I’m Potato the gochujang isn’t very spicy at all but if you want it less spicy add less of it
Would tomato paste work fine if I don’t have the spice paste?
it wouldn't rll taste like tteokbokki, it'd taste like pasta lol
Superglue Banana true true😂I just wish I had access to the proper ingredients without having to buy them online

can i use less sugar?
yeah! you don't have to use sugar at all in fact
I really really want to try korean foods especially tteokbokki, the only problem is that I can't handle spicy foods:(
oof, a lot of Korean food is spicy, but for tteokbokki the cheese numbs out the spice lol.
Is the dish in the end sweet and spicy, or does the spicy ness overpowers the sweetness
Its equally sweet and spicy. Not sweet like desert, but VERY spicy
