@RUSSIASG from what i saw the rod on the right side conects the bottom lever that goes up and down from the gear to the top row guide lever. meaning it makes it jump up and down so the caps dont get stuck up at the top

i built a pin ball machine out of wood and rubber bands when i was in junior high school because i could not come up with the electronic bumbers. so me and my friends counted every time the marble hit a rubber band. might be something you could try building.
I once saved 8 bottle caps from drinking Coca-Cola. I input all the codes to the mycokerewards for one CAN of coke. That's ONE CAN for EIGHT BOTTLES. They never sent me that can. They'll pay for what they've done.
Were the funneling rails at the top even necessary? It could have been just filled with the caps and would perhaps work even better. I am also disappointed with you using an off-the-shelf pace counter. Some sort of a wooden binary adder would have suited it much better.
Count them by hand. What an excellent idea ! Before this machine, I'd only ever been able to guess the number of bottle caps. And now I don't need a machine at all :)

Sort of seems like the first shelf doesn't help much, just limits the number of caps the machine will hold. Otherwise, looks good. :-)
