Since I received my inflatable hot tub this Christmas I have spent hours researching the internet for advice and instructions and I just wanted to compliment you on simplifying the process to me. I live alone with no pets and installed this hot tub in my heated basement with the expectation that maintenance shouldn’t take much time or trouble. The test strips made me think I was a chemical engineer, easy to use and understand. I look forward to many years of enjoyment and relaxation with this product. Thanks again for posting this video.
@@nomadicfanatic Baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate) will raise the pH of your water and can throw some of your other chemicals out of whack. For instance - bromine and chlorine's effectiveness as a sanitizer are all dependent upon pH. Too high or too low pH will affect how well they keep your water clear and clean.
Hey Eric... the inflatable spas are awesome 👏 especially in locations where a normal spa doesn't work (like camping ⛺️ at the river or mountains)... FYI - Baking Soda (Sodium bicarbonate) is used to raise pH (exact same thing as pH up at the pool supply store) which should be between 7.2 and 7.8... if the water 💦 is too acidic, it's going to make the water cloudy and wear out the heater element (or any metal)... also I don't use chlorine in the spa because it "burns-off" in temperatures above 80° where Bromine is more stable in higher temperatures... one more thing, try dissolving the shock treatment in water prior to adding to the spa... anyway, Thanks 🙏🏻 for sharing...
Baking soda will raise PH, but it raises alkalinity even more. Sodium bicarbonate is typically sold as alkalinity increaser. Many times you do not want to affect alkalinity, in which case PH increaser is typically sodium carbonate, or washing soda.
My wife and I just bought an inflatable spa and was looking for a video on how to maintain it when we stumbled upon yours. Thanks for this information. This video was extremely helpful. My wife and I are also looking to eventually get an RV to travel in as we both have jobs that allow us to work anywhere we want. So, I subscribed and have been watching your videos and really love the information about RVs, your travel adventures etc. Your channel is awesome! Thank you so much Eric for all your videos. Really do enjoy them!
All I do is bromine tabs in a floater thing and sprayed out the filter every other day. Oh and a fluffy ball thing that absorbs oil. Love the videos! Been watching for years!
I put an inflatable hot tub in my living room last year. Worst idea ever. My dog bit a w hole in it and when I came home from work my living room was completely destroyed. In my defense I never claimed to be the brightest person...
Dude you have explained this phenomenally wonderfully I am so thankful finally somebody has finally explained everything to me no guessing or cryptic s*** thank you so much even the little advice comments/tips about pets and how you clean it... wonderful wonderful thank you so much dude!!!!🙏🙏🥰🥰
Thanks for your honesty & no bs approach to being a fastidious owner! You make conscientious hard work look super easy, which makes me feel like I can do this….unlike most other vids with so many confusing contradictions. Thanks for the simplicity! 😊
We have the 6-person Intex, love it,,,, I have been able to manage the water to last a little over three months most the time. Just have to keep the filters cleaned and chemicals checked. I started a Intex facebook page if you are interested in joining.
Thank you!!! I got a saluspa and have no experience with hot tube maintenance! Your video is the best I have found! I thought I would have to measure all the ph increased, ph decreased… and I see you just sprinkle it in…. Thanks for the great video!!!!
You don't need a "vacuum" to get sediment out of a hot tub. All you need is a short garden hose, say 15' to 25'. Make a siphon (there are lots of UA-cam videos that show how to do this) and in 5 minutes you've cleaned out all that dense material at the bottom of your tub. So easy.
i have had my spa for a year now, and i thank Eric so much for this video, it saved me, and i actually love taking care of my hot tub... you are the best Eric!!!!
You can also run the filters through the dishwasher. I had a Hottub for 11 years and besides the no foam the only other chemical I used was Shock it is literally the same as the chlorine once a month to shock then a tablespoon or two about every 2-3 days I would change the water twice a year
Twice a year!?? Man thatll get kinda funky won’t it? I get the filters trap sediment but what about all stuff on the human body that gets in there every time.? Jw
I've had inflatable spas for years. I have had to use PH down more than up. Before I hose down my filters I use a old toothbrush to scrub them and loosen up the debris. This adds life to the filters
Eric, I love your attention to detail. And your enthusiasm. You have the resources and time to do what you enjoy. And you take us along with you ! Keep up the good work.
This reminds me of the time I used to clean my parents pool, I hated it. So much work for a hot tub. I think I would rather go over to someone's house who has a hot tub and use theirs. haha...have fun!!
Sorry Eric, but I must warn and correct one thing you said at the first of the video. DO NOT use 1 Inch CHLORINE tablets in a small spa that size in your floater. Chlorine tabs are Trichlor and are too powerful for small tubs because they lower your pH and are 90% available chlorine. Bromine tablets are perfect for hot tubs, of course. In fact, there is a GRANULAR form of bromine if you'd rather use instead of having a plastic floater. Another helpful suggestion, just use NON-CHLORINE shock for your bromine spa. You can shock the spa and get back in the water in 15 minutes versus waiting the whole day. That HTH 4 in 1 Shock you are using is really more for swimming pools and too powerful. Just my two cents. I've worked in the pool and spa industry over 32 years and teach water chemistry classes.
You can use ANY tablet you want in these tubs. You just can't keep the floater bobber in all the time. :) Even with Bromine, I don't keep the chemical floater in 24 hours a day. As I'm checking levels each day on my test strips, I'm always taking the floater out an hour or 4 here and there to keep it in the correct range. Tablets are fine in these tubs.
@@nomadicfanatic But if someone DOESN'T take the floater out and leaves a floater filled with trichlor tabs in there for days, they are going to be in for some trouble. There are other variables too such as how high the pH is of your source water out of the tap, etc. For what you are doing, you'd be better off using a granular form of bromine and just get rid of that annoying floater.. Check out "Bromine Concentrate" by a brand called SpaGuard or Spa Essentials (same manufacturer). It's way more user friendly and has a more neutral pH than bromine tablets. Good luck!
The spa I have has the dispenser on a nozzle under water. I don’t think the manufacturer would build it this way if they didn’t intend life the chemicals to always be in the water.
I need to use chlorine in mine. But I can’t seem to master all the levels of everything. I have a kiosk size supply of diff products, but I wish I had just bought one prepackaged set. I still haven’t used the damn thing bc im constantly correcting ph & all the rest. Like a fool, I thought “ok! Just need chlorine most of the time, a few other things randomly”. Nope. I think I’m going to take a sample up to a pool store tomorrow. It’s actually warm enough here right now to use it. I shocked it yesterday & now it’s cloudy.. I don’t get it!
I've owned this exact soft tub. It's a really a good investment. Be sure to not over full it with air as I did. Maintain it everyday. Don't let cats on it. Dip filters in bucket w water and tsp overnight. Have extra filters.
My wife and I had the same one and loved it. We used it for about five years. We only switched to a traditional hot tub because we like to go in the tub year round and it gets pretty cold here in winter
2 things: -When filling a hot tub for the first time, Check the Ph!! Don't assume that the Ph is normal straight from the tap! In my area the Ph is 8 which is too high . A high or low Ph will render your bromine or chlorine ineffective. I learned this the hard way! -You can vacuum a hot tub if you have a old, short length of garden hose by siphoning some water out and then sucking the debris.

Other than that, it's such a great thing! THANK YOU for a great video!

Thanks for the helpful tutorial and tips!
Thank you -- Watched your video before inflating the hot tub and felt so much better about the chemical process. Also, love your followers comments. Great group of people.
I remember when we moved to Florida. The dang pool ( 32,000 gallons) had developed all sorts of nasty problems until I got a handle over a 3-4 month period. It went from cloudy water to Algae to black Algae to mustard Algae. What a mess. You know the problem is dyer when they sell you Flocculant to KILL everything and start over. Our two boys and nephew were constantly in the pool along with the grown ups. I finally switched over to a salt system (Bromide) and dumped the chlorine and all the other nasty stuff. I had a Bag that absorbed all the fatty acids through the skimmer and would just add PH up occasionally as well as Bromine tablets. The water was crystal clear. No more red, bloodshot eyes and stinky skin. Definitely the way to go.
Great advice! Very informative. The Frog Ease floater can also be used. Even easier than the process used here. Just get the water hardness right and follow the instructions included on the package. Easy Peasy. The filters should be cleaned after every use. Defoamer is a must too. Other than that I only check the levels about once a week. No issues really. No other chemicals really needed except for shock now and then.I don’t stress about it. If the water is clear and no one gets a rash. My levels have always been in the correct range. Frog Ease is a little expensive, but worth the no hassle.
THANK YOU!! Yes, there isn't a video like this out there. I feel like trying to figure all this out requires a chemistry degree. I could really use a first time setup chemical video. What did you put in the first day and how did you do it? That would be super helpful. I would like to add that I've seen it mentioned that to suck up the bottom debris one can also use a fish tank syphon.
I just cut a long section of water hose, learned how to create a good suction, took forever to learn how, now first try I got that baby sucking the sand out, I’m kinda ocd prone and love doing this knowing I created, this out of nothing and what a handy tool too! Lol

I have saluspa Hawaii I just changed water today haven't changed since first week of March I use all the exact same things as u I appreciate this video I found the little vacuum helpful I didn't know they made those also mines in my basement keeps it from getting so cold so quick
Thank you for such detailed information!! I have had my saluspa for only about a month and I'm just getting to the point of feeling like it's safe to get in it. That's only because I have found step by step instructions on what I'm really supposed to be doing.
I purchased my Coleman Havana hot tub last year after seeing your setup. I love the tub. I clean my filters once a week on sunday but I only use the tub on the weekends.
@@rafaeltoledo9323 I always keep the heat and pump on. The pump will shut off after 72 hours of inactivity so every 2 or 3 days I'll hit the bubbler so the timer resets.

Just what I wanted to hear! I have a 2 person 150gallon it’s permanent. I’ve searched and searched. All the chemical manufacturers give instructions for thousands of gallons. Even getting out the calculator- it seems off. TFS. Jan
thanks for the tips I've been thinking about getting a portable hottub to put o the deck beside our RV, since I've watched you and others enjoying it at the end of a day
Thank you. Its true. There is no information out there I do not understand why the manufacturers do not give great instructions and they don't give that information
Be careful with those test strips Eric. I'm a tropical fish keeper and I can assure you they are notoriously inaccurate!!! Be careful you don't hurt yourself by adding excessive chemicals needlessly!!!
Hello Eric...thanks for the info...i just purchased one of these as part of my recovery for some upcoming surgery i am having...im thinking about running some supplemental heat to it from a heat exchanger on my woodstove...we will see how it works...i have seen you out on the road in Washington and Utah...safe travels...
We will soon be setting up our first ever hot tub which is an Intex and looks to be the same size as yours. Thanks for making this video and sharing the information. It's most helpful as we learn how to maintain it.
I appreicate this video so very much.Have always wanted one but most do have solid walls and are expensive. Then found your vids about inflates ones. This is very informative and important. Thanks Eric.

You're so cute! Very thorough review of your maintenance. I just unboxed mine today and in the process of setting it up. I got the SaluSpa from Costco. Thanks much!
Thank you for this video!!! You're right, not much in the way of care for these tubs on youtube. Have you found or heard of any hacks to get warmer air to pump through the jet tube? Space heater beside the pump unit? Do they make something you can install? Our tub gets up to 104 but we're around 35-40 outside so the jets end up cooling the water off pretty quick.
I delude any chemicals in a clean bucket of water especially the shock before I add it it takes better and will prolong the life of the vinyl on the bottom of the tub
This was so incredibly helpful. I didn’t look how long ago this was posted but thank you. For the shock treatment… to make sure it’s “bromine” safe, do I just look for the shock that says “chlorine free” ? I couldn’t find the same one you showed via Walmart or Amazon. Ty
Good stuff to know Eric . We just got a 3,000 gallon plus pool here and they take work but it is more time to do work than it is effort . Gonna be a great summer here in Florida ! Take care and pet them kitties for me !
Eric, great video. One question I seem to not find am answer to is how often should my filters be on? Only when I use it? Only when it is covered? Always?
I enjoy your educational videos. You're so thorough. I'm getting hooked on reading the viewer comments and your responses. Almost as entertaining as a video.
So, I have owned pools and hot tubs for 20+ years. I may have to replace my filter every 5 years. Cleaning is important. But you should not have to be replacing that paper filter that often. Also, a hot tub and a pool should only require 15-30 minutes every week max. You should be able to fill your floater with tablets and adjust the exposure to water to regulate. A little shock once a week. Do it after you get out. Just for clarification, I’ve had the water in my hot tub for up to 8 years. It is always clear. Cleaning the sand on the floor, well, yea, you have the best way there. An inflatable hot tub is a little more challenging than a hard side.
Same here...I have a "Tupperware " type plastic hot tub...only use those floater chlorine tablet thingy...2nd filter in 8 years, just spray it off about once a month...water crystal clear...run it on a manual timer 4 x 30min per day to circulate the water...easy peasy...
Awesome timing on this video. We are getting ours delivered today. On our kiddie pool years ago we used a hanger with pantyhose stretched on it to skim the pool 😂 Thanks for all the great tips.
Back when I lived in Tumwater, we had friends who had a company called rolling waters portable hot tubs. Theirs were on trailers roll em in fill me up hook up the propane tank and 4 hrs later we were tubbin'
This video was so super helpful. I can't find the shock you recommended and I can't seem to figure out what other product is safe for my vinyl tub. Could you please recommend something?
Thanks for this video. I just got an inflatable hot tub and I'm going to use your maintenance tips. I didn't know you can substitute chlorine for bromine.
Great video, just got a new tub. It’s not up and running yet. I have to ask the cord on it is much shorter than anticipated. How do you feel about extension cords? I have read up on it a bit and seen the numerous warnings in the manual but I thought I seen yours hooked up to one. Thoughts?
Thanks for the info on the vacuum. I will definitely be buying one. Until then, and what I have been doing for the debris use using a hose and the Siphoning technique to suck it out.

I love your teaching style, Wish I had teachers like you, you’re a natural.
this video is the best, I just got my hot tub exactly like he has and this is the best to explain how to care for it. Thank you so very much I know it is old but definitely still relevant
Glad it helped
Great video. I’ve had an INTEX pool for couple years. This is more maintenance.
Can I see your step by step .. Did you figure it out?
GREAT VIDEO!! Thank you, I think I love my Spa again! My main issue is opening it after its been dormant all window.
I have that same hot tub. For the price, I love it! I got mine used offline for $50. It works great!
$50 bucks? Wow. Score.
I purchased my Coleman Havana hot tub last year after seeing your setup. I love the tub. I clean my filters once a week on sunday but I only use the tub on the weekends.
Once a week on the filters? Wow, maybe I'm overdoning it.
@@nomadicfanatic well, I only use my tub once a week so maybe I'm under using it!😂
Do you turn it off? Or its always on?
@@rafaeltoledo9323 I always keep the heat and pump on. The pump will shut off after 72 hours of inactivity so every 2 or 3 days I'll hit the bubbler so the timer resets.
@@adamfischer6768 Thank you so much for your info its really helpful!
Listen brother, I noticed if I use the rv I line water filter to fill my intext hottub, it helps tremendously, iv even put two water filters together to put pure water into the hottub, wow what a difference, I highly recommend
Thanks. This is the most informative video I’ve seen to maintain my Intex. Thankyou!
I am so thankful for this video! Thank you for telling me HOW to clean the water 🙂
Eric! I used a non-maintained hot tub years ago and it took me a WEEK to get the stink off! EWWWWW! I agree, I don't like chlorine either. Yuck!
Be careful with those test strips Eric. I'm a tropical fish keeper and I can assure you they are notoriously inaccurate!!! Be careful you don't hurt yourself by adding excessive chemicals needlessly!!!
Is it that brand specifically or just test strips in general?
@@daylen577 Test strips in general really. Far better getting the chemical test kits. They are far more accurate!!!
How did it go?
You are amazing… I just bought one ..different brand but you taught me so much. Thank you so much !!!
Glad I could help!
I appreicate this video so very much.Have always wanted one but most do have solid walls and are expensive. Then found your vids about inflates ones. This is very informative and important. Thanks Eric.
I really miss my hot tub! I'm so tempted to get one of the portables... Thanks for the info
You were fantastic in a easily understood way, certainly helped me in finding the chemicals needed and will look no further and go with your advice. Thanks for sharing your knowledge through experience.
Interesting to see the details of having a portable hot tub.
You are absolutely right, there is not a video like thisnout there. Thanks for this. Havent bought one yet, but thats because Im afriad to due to maintenance. This helped alot!
THANK YOU !!! I’m going to set mine up as soon as the contractors finish up some work. Can’t wait !!
Hi! Nice video! Should I keep the filter on all the time or just when I use/treat the water? Thank you!
Great video, I just order an inflatable hot tub. I think a propane heater in cold weather would be nice.
YES! I just bought one and this is some information I have been trying to find! Thank you, now I know what to buy to get it up and running.
Hope you enjoy it!
I got one for Christmas and it was so hard to maintain that I’ve only used it twice.
Hopefully this helps ❤️
I delude any chemicals in a clean bucket of water especially the shock before I add it it takes better and will prolong the life of the vinyl on the bottom of the tub
Thank you for showing how to take care of my spa tub.. I usually put shock it in it..
Good info if I should ever get a hot tub…….thanks for keeping it real!!!
Thank you so much for putting in English what is a very confusing process!
Your Awesome! Best video I have seen so far!
This was so incredibly helpful. I didn’t look how long ago this was posted but thank you. For the shock treatment… to make sure it’s “bromine” safe, do I just look for the shock that says “chlorine free” ? I couldn’t find the same one you showed via Walmart or Amazon. Ty
Thanks for this video! You’re so right about people gate keeping this information!
Thanks so much, I've struggled with maintenance on ours - have had several. This is very informative.
Good stuff to know Eric . We just got a 3,000 gallon plus pool here and they take work but it is more time to do work than it is effort . Gonna be a great summer here in Florida ! Take care and pet them kitties for me !
Hire a pool boy! lol.
@@nomadicfanatic LOL The wife would love that ! LOL
Hi
Thank you for the video it’s really helpful!
I have one question only !
How often and how long you run a filter?
Thank
Eric, great video. One question I seem to not find am answer to is how often should my filters be on? Only when I use it? Only when it is covered? Always?
I enjoy your educational videos. You're so thorough. I'm getting hooked on reading the viewer comments and your responses. Almost as entertaining as a video.
Hahaha. I try.
Wow, nice to know about your Amazon affiliate. We tried it for a short time, I don't think we will try it again. More hassle than it is worth.
Back when I lived in Tumwater, we had friends who had a company called rolling waters portable hot tubs. Theirs were on trailers roll em in fill me up hook up the propane tank and 4 hrs later we were tubbin'
Nice.
This video was so super helpful. I can't find the shock you recommended and I can't seem to figure out what other product is safe for my vinyl tub. Could you please recommend something?
you'll find the 4 in 1 shock on amazon also.
Thoughts?
I’d love to see a video on options to surround the tub, things that will break the wind (it’s insane in Oklahoma. Seriously NUTS!)
Thanks for the info on the vacuum. I will definitely be buying one. Until then, and what I have been doing for the debris use using a hose and the Siphoning technique to suck it out.
Great info totally appreciated
Don’t let the haters get to you Eric we love all the videos you put out and we love how many Different things you do on your channel. Been looking at these hot tubs for a while back when you first got it. Thank you for the information.... p.s. keep us up to date with your BEE BATTLES... I can’t believe they went back into the same holes!!
I wish I got the 4 person tub instead of 6. It would probably stay warmer longer and easier and cheaper to clean.
Thank you for the video. How do you change the light inside? I love your routine maintenance suggestions
@nomadicfanatic THANK YOU so much for this video! I bought all the accessories and products you recommended for my new Intex inflatable PureSpa and I’m excited to try these products! I will continue to use this video and share for references 😊
You have to also check the hardness of the water. Adding calcium booster if not at right level.
You are awesome, thanks so much answered so many questions I had that no other channel answered
Loved your video, very clear on what to get and how to use it. What about slime? Would the clarifier work for that?
all I ever put in my hot tub is the bromine seems to work fine
Thank you! I just got one of these and appreciate the advice! :)
