  • Poetry at The Dalí is an ongoing series hosted by former poet laureate of St. Petersburg, Helen Pruitt Wallace, on the second Thursday of each month featuring select poets. This month's poets are Lola Haskins and Carolina Hotchandani.

    Lola Haskins’ poetry has appeared in The Atlantic, Christian Science Monitor, Georgia Review, Southern Review, London Review of Books, Beloit Poetry Journal, Prairie Schooner and been broadcasted on BBC and NPR. Homelight is her 14th collection. Before that, Asylum (University of Pittsburgh, 2019), was featured in the NYT Magazine. Past honors include the Iowa Poetry Prize, two NEAs, two Florida Book Awards, narrative poetry prizes from Southern Poetry Review and New England Poetry Review, a Florida’s Eden prize for environmental writing and the Emily Dickinson prize from Poetry Society of America.     Carolina Hotchandani is a Latinx/South Asian poet born in Brazil and raised in various parts of the United States. Her debut poetry collection, The Book Eaters, won the 2023 Perugia Press Prize and was released in September 2023. Hotchandani holds degrees from Brown, Texas State and Northwestern University. Her honors include scholarships from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, Rona Jaffe Foundation, Community of Writers, Tin House Writers’ Workshop and Napa Valley Writers’ Conference. Hotchandani’s poetry has appeared in AGNI, Alaska Quarterly Review, Beloit Poetry Journal, Blackbird, Cincinnati Review, Missouri Review, Prairie Schooner and other journals. She is a Goodrich Assistant Professor of English in Omaha, Nebraska, where she lives with her husband and daughter.
