  • Artis Wodehouse live in performance playing the first movement of Michael Calabris' s 2024 Harmonium Sonata on a 1919 Estey foot-pump organ September 29th, 2024 at EsteyFest '24 held in Brattleboro, Vermont.
Calabris's Harmonium Sonata, written in 2024 may be the first extended concert work written by an American for the American foot-pump harmonium. Wodehouse played the entire 3-movement composition -- which lasted 25 minutes -- on an Estey Artist Model Z. This instrument was specially designed by the Estey Company (based in Brattleboro, Vermont) to be capable of extreme expressivity and contrasting tonal colors. Wodehouse's stop changes are noted in the video.

The EsteyFest '24 -- hosted in collaboration with the Estey Organ Museum, the Brattleboro Historical Society and the Reed Organ Society -- featured workshops and performances that focussed on the many styles and types of pump organs built by the Estey Company. An important manufacturer of these types of instruments, Estey keyboards were sold in large numbers and used in churches, meeting houses and homes throughout the USA.
Wodehouse plays on a 1919 restored Model Z from the collection of Allen Myers at Epsilon Spires, an arts venue converted from a Baptist church located in downtown Brattleboro, Vermont.
Video was captured by Brattleboro Community TV. Audio was captured from an iphone by Edmund Wodehouse.
