What does it look like when you have distilled lavender long enough?

    How can you tell if you have "cooked" your batch long enough? The stems change color!
    Lavender stems and blossoms that come out of the still "spent" have a muted or blanched color. They also smell a little bit like steamed asparagus.... weird, I know, but it is the truth!
    All of the spent plant material is awesome for garden mulch. We have been spreading this in the pathways around our large garden to keep the weeds down.
    One thing is for sure, though, you do NOT want to take the spent plant material out of the still and leave it in a pile. It will be wet, the center will heat up, and there is a chance it can combust..... just like a compost pile.
    So, make sure you spread out your lavender mulch when you're done cooking a batch,
