I thought he was gay for so long because he's always overly camp if he ever appears in sketches and I thought that was because people wouldn't get offended because he's actually gay 😂
Joe Wilkinson is proper relatable and keeps character wherever he is, Sacha Cohen again because of his incredible skill of keeping character, Sean Lock because of his quick wit and does a great stand up and James Acaster because why the hell not
My top 4 in no particular order Steve Coogan Bob Mortimer/Vic Reeves Steven Wright Stewart Lee Notable mentions: Limmy, Julian Barrett and Noel Fielding, Tim and Eric and Richard Pryor.
No.1 Whoever the f wrote The Four Lions. Single handedly the best low budget movie ever filmed. Sean Lock is also an absolute must, the guy is so witty, childish and unintentionally funny that it just makes it so fun to watch. Greg Davies the same. And then just for nostalgia South Park, not a person but who cares
Definitely agree with Stephens list, few small changes though. 1)Steve Coogan (greatest character forming, timing and some of the one liners are all time. 2) Ricky Gervais (xfm with Karl Pilkington, the office, the sarcastic retorts and the breaking down of big subjects like Religon are just amazing to watch) 3) Mo Gilligan (Relatability, the way he forms his stand up to a story growing up is too funny. 4) Kevin Hart (great stand up comedy, has an amazing way to bring it to a full circle. 5) Matthew Holness (Amazing writer, wrote a fantastic comedy has a brilliant way to make the background of a scene add to the conversation) I know it’s five but honourable mentions 6) Stephen Tries (now I’m not doing this for likes or that stuff but genuinely Stephen has great observational comedy and quick retorts to a random line, would love to see him build a stand up from his years growing up to uni stories I think with the right writing it would be amazing to watch...on Netflix. Cheers guys, amazing podcast 👌👌
Hello there, James Acaster: Purely for Repertoire. Taika Waititi: What we do in the shadows, Thor Ragnarock, Mandalorian. Chris Rock: His standup is so good. Simon Pegg: Cornetto Trilogy. Also, the hardest I've ever laughed is at dumb and dumber when harry met Lloyd melted chocolate in the toilet scene.
*My 4 favourite stand ups = Kevin Bridges, Frankie Boyle, Billy Connolly & Jim Jefferies. My 4 favourite comedy actors = Sacha Baron Cohen, Larry David, Steve Coogan & Ricky Gervais*
In no particular order my Mount Rushmore would have Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais, Rik Mayall and David Jason. Biased on British comedians but grew up on it.
1. Mitch Hedburg (stand up) his one liners are the best in the buisness. sad he passed away so early. 2. Bill Hicks (stand up) very funny and agressive political comedian. 3. Rick Mayall - from the Young Ones to Bottom and the stand up they did with bottom cant be beat slap stick at its best. 4. Sean Lock - his show 15 storys high was genius his stuff with 8 out of ten cats is so funny and his stand up is mental. out of your lot i would say Steve Coogan has to go on the Mountain he is my number one but wanted to give you four not on your list.
I think for me personally it’s Lee Mack - lightning quick wit, been a king of comedy in terms of stand up and TV writing in terms of his sketch show and sitcom for decades now Jim Carrey - For the reasons Dave said Dan Harmon - my favourite comedy writer, seasons 1-3 of community probably had the funniest writing of any sitcom. Also known for co-creating Rick & Morty James Acaster - in terms of the rest of my list relatively new. But his stand up is super relatable and unique I think (he’s the perfect blend of zany and pedantically tedious)
The only thing that can save football now is the Stephen tries podcast. I hereby call on the Stephen tries podcast to role play the talks between the Pl and the breakaway clubs in order to show the clowns who run the club to show them through the power of role play which path is right. I have also written to ALL the heads of state who have unanimously agreed to implement whatever outcome is decided upon by the STP Role play gods .
Karl Pilkington, Lee Mack, Jack Whitehall (sorry Stephen) & David Earl, something about David Earl as Kev in Derek has me crying, honorable mention to Ricky Gervais & Merchant for their writing, top drawer. Yet to see Stephen live so can’t put him up there same with Peter Kay.
Why is Joe starting up his MacBook after the podcasts begins and during recording? Is there a disciplinary procedure? Is there a form I can use to make a formal complaint?
100% Coogan first for me, Alan Partridge is the greatest character ever created imo and Saxondale is severely underrated. Then Ricky Gervais, love everything he does. Trey Parker/Matt stone for South Park which is my favourite show ever as well as Team America and Book of Mormon. Also have to have Sacha Baron Cohen for Ali G, Borat and Bruno.
I hope you enjoy this podcast. let me know what category you'd want us to do next for the Mount Rushmore question x

Cameron, as such a man of class, stepping in for whacky boy Looney is a surprisingly good fitting replacement
Cameron is very good. Probably most intelligent I’d say as well
The way Max makes Cameron laugh is very endearing.
One of the funniest things ever was when they had max come in in character and they all acting like he never changed into character. Too funny

This podcast is an absolute gem
