When you mentioned “10 minutes” are you also including being over 10 minutes?
In other words, do you dead head back if you’re 15,30 minutes, an hour away from your preferred busy spot with the app off?
I'm never that far away from my spot because I use the area filter that keeps me in a 5 mile radius of my spot.
Are you receiving pings during your trip? Or are ride requests off?
It depends. There are times when you should have it off, and times it should be on. If it's a short ride near a known bonus area, you should keep it on. If it's not, you should turn it off. Ensure you have enough points to maintain your status with Lyft because having access to as many area filters is essential for this strategy.
I love your question because it shows you're taking in the strategy.
You honestly look pretty smart, and that's a nice spreadsheet. Only question is why are you estimating your tax rate at only 15%? self employment is 15.3%, Federal for that amount you're talking about is 10%, and minnesota has a 3.5% state tax. Is there something I'm missing here?
It's due to lack of knowledge.
When I started rideshare during the pandemic, I never owed taxes. But this year I learned it's because of the covid related tax incentives.
I had to pay the self employment tax this year but that's all I had to pay because the mileage write offs lowered my income enough to where SC doesn't charge state taxes.
I'll be correcting that information in a future video.
But do you get the 70% ? And does all states get the bonus?
What if you were renting a car through Uber and Lyft, what do you calculate? The price of the rental and gas/electric? Please answer
Tristan, do you take a break in the middle of your shift or do you just drive straight through the day? I like to take an hour and workout midday....but I also have never made $2k in a weekend...
I take breaks every 3-4 hours during times I've taken note of as slow periods.
I take short breaks. I'll take bathroom breaks separate from food breaks.
Snacking and getting up to walk keeps my energy up.
Am I missing something? At 11:45 you say Lyft isn't accurately tracking your mileage. But, you explained earlier in the video that you are going offline to dead-head back to the hot zones. Wouldn't that explain the difference between your odometer and the Lyft app?
Uber and Lyft claim they track your mileage as long as the app is open.
How does anyone realistically make this much money in 3 days?

Tristan, I apologize if I missed it, but what are you averaging for dollar per mile? I'm averaging .67 cents per offer here in Orange County, CA. No bonuses, but I did start getting that Turbo recently. Basicallly, the offers will be closer to $1 per mile if it's around + 30%.

No. That would require manually entering the data for each ride.

I guess if I wanted to record all my miles, I can download them from my State Farm Beacon that tracks all my miles, shows on map and such. It is designed to record every movement of the car.
That's an excellent backup. The IRS may not accept that if you're audited. The good news is that you can reconstruct your mileage by cross-referencing your mileage with the days you drove to find your business mileage (which is what you need when dealing with the IRS

Incredible dedication, but I'm not sure it's something people should really try to emulate. For me, I prefer to focus on sustainability rather than things I can't rely on. These types of incentives want us to destroy ourselves physically and emotionally just for the chance at good pay, and they won't always be there. I can't control how much they pay me, but I can control how much I'm spending. I think that's what the real secret to making money in this business is.
I don't think rideshare is a great long-term career path, and it's also seasonal for specific markets (not all).
To pay off all my debt and prepare for a transition into a different career path, I will sprint by working as hard as I can.
I recommend everyone do this until they are debt-free (except the house) and have a six-month emergency fund.
That way, your living expenses will be significantly lower, and you'll financially insulate yourself enough to either switch careers or, at least, require less Uber and Lyft to hit financial goals.
Everyone should be sprinting right now as the busy season heats up.

Over the course of 2024, I've averaged 20 hours a week.
Some weeks I go hard, especially when it's busy and some weeks I take it easy, especially when it's slow.
For example, I made a lot in this video, sure but most of it was on the weekend.
Today, I didn't work because my niece has a graduation.
I'm not out here working 24/7.
But I make sure I'm working when it matters most financially
