Actually, Force F = mass (m) * acceleration (a) is the biggest misunderstanding in Newton's second law of motion. Newton's second law just said that "Force is the rate of change of momentum of a body with both magnitude as well as direction or at least any one of these". F = time derivative of momentum vector of a body. That body can be anything in this universe.

The value of coulomb's constant k in C.G.S System is also 1 most probably the reason being the same. We usually, say that we choose a unit force which produces in a unit mass a unit acceleration so that k reduces to 1, I suppose for the same reason as explained by you. Please comment.
