    The cotton you are referring to is insulation material. I had same thing happen to me.I made a hole in sheet rock in my attic. But the houses are not weak, they are built in a specific way , there are wood studs and drywall(Sheetrock) if you punch dryway it will break , but every 16 inches there is a wood stud. Life of avg house is more than 70 years .

    • @kuljot_
      @kuljot_ Рік тому +9

      @@roaringjustice66 well you really don't have to worry about that. As mentioned above that average lifespan of a house is 70-80 years, termites and other damage to wood is already calculated in that lifespan. that's why there are houses in US which can be 100 years old and still liveable.

    • @kuljot_
      @kuljot_ Рік тому +12

      @Tanay Dutt with all due respect to you, I'm trying to say that wooden houses are better for those climatic conditions e.g. heavy snowfall and dry winters. I also live in Punjab and we all know you can't sleep on concrete floors in winters because of the poor insulation properties on concrete. So different types of house are suitable for different places. Thanks.

    Dude ! Everyone Knows you should Always Step Only on the Rafter Beams in an Attic; Never step on the Insulation!

  • @spacecaptain9188
    @spacecaptain9188 Рік тому +7

    Dude, that wasn't cotton, that was insulation. You shouldn't touch it, or breath it. Also, that attic wasn't floored, it was just holding the insulation and ceiling boards. If you want to use the attic as a room (why else would you walk on it?), you have to give it a floor, and seal off the insulation (usually made of fiberglass, which you def should not breath!), and also insulate the top walls of the attic, among other things, to make it habitable. Also, if you had really fallen through the ceiling, you would not have fallen 3 stories, you would have fallen 1 story to the floor, which can hold much more than a human dropped from the ceiling.

  • @spacecaptain9188
    @spacecaptain9188 Рік тому +3

    Perhaps it's my biased American perspective, but when visiting a new country, I suspect it's best to not punch the walls, or walk on parts of the house that do not have floors.

    You didnt step on thin wood or cotton its insulation used to stablize your home temperature and if you saw there was a plank of wood you completely avoided. American homes are made from wood for various reason but mainly because its stronger than cement and cheaper. Cement is strong but not for natural disasters or for running plumbing and electricity which india doesnt have for common homes. One man could fix any wooden repair whereas a whole team is needed to repair concrete.

    • @surajravishankar

    I have never felt cold in Ohio with temperature reaching -20°C but in NCR i have had trouble sitting in living room because of extreme cold and Delhi gets lows of only 3-5°C maximum is typically 15°C this despite having 3 Radiant oil heaters in the house.
    Same in summer( in NCR india) I have 4 ACs at home still in the living room kitchen etc is hot and sweaty despite an ac in the living room. Have to keep retreating into the bedroom where temperature doesn't go below 25° in summer.
    Have lived in Texas where summer maximum temperature remains above 40°C continuously for 90+ days. There too my internal home temp remains all day and night in every corner of my 2800sft( carpet area) home at 18°C.
    Having lived and maintained and repaired ( yes physically myself, breaking walls, putting tiles, mixing concrete, plumbing 150 joints, changing Drywall etc) homes both types of construction have their advantages and disadvantages.
    However the end result depends on the quality of raw materials used, correct techniques used and ultimate finishing quality.
    Unfortunately in India of late all these are seriously lacking especially in North India eg NCR.
    Every where you see in North India walls absorb moisture and plaster and paint is peeling off. Leakages near bathrooms. Plumbing fittings including expensive ones never ever fit properly only plumbers can come and do their jugad to make them leak proof.
    Today because of rain power kept tripping nearly a dozen times. So no AC and it's July in NCR. This is he luxury of staying in India.
    Where as 12 years in US I never faced any electric problem. Never felt problem even in below freezing areas or areas as hot as NCR.
    I could repair and build most of the stuff myself here you need magic jugad to make anything work.. I hope I go back. There are insulated concrete homes coming up in many parts of US.

    The wall you puched was plaster, It's a false wall to cover the installation used to keep the house warm. The wood is outside. You fell through the roof in the attic because it was not a finished room. Attics hold more installation, so it stays warm or cool. Whoever told you to stand in the attic was an idiot.

    USA Mai bahut 100+ years ke Ghar hai and they are still good for living. Construction depends on joints and load distribution. Wood is stromg in different ways compared to concrete. Also, insulation is better with drywalling. Lot of concrete buildings fall around there world. Baki structural engineer se puchna.

    Meanwhile in India
    Civil engineer: sir beam column or foundation ki jarurat nahi hae.
    House owner: arre nahi Ghar majbut chahiye.
    For one story house they use 9-12 concrete columns and 3 mtrs foundation after that for wall strong stones 😂😂. Which make 25% increase in house construction cost.
