This was a very helpful video. I just got my first car recently and today I realised I had no water to wash my window screen. After watching this video went Asda in the U.K. bought oil, window screen wash. Tomorrow I am going to do it all. 😄. Thank you
Now that was really a great instructional video. My hat of to you sir! As someone who knows nothing about cars videos like this are unmissable! I have a 2010 C1 and will be checking all of this tomorrow. Keep up the good work #quality
great video - much clearer than many. Very relaxed and I like the fact that the car looks as untidy as mine! Good quality video recording as well. Really stopped me getting stressed out before a long journey. Cheers!
Thanks for this man! My car is making a weird noise and with not knowing what i need, or wat to look for, i've put it off, i will be checking all these :) Thanks :D
Brilliant video.. As someone who knows absolute zero on how to check car fluids.. I know exactly what to do now.. Even down to the catches inside the car and under the bonnet! Thankyou 🚗👍 I should know all this really.. I'm only 51 years old! 😂
Do not use washing up liquid in the screen washer bottle. It contains salt to bulk it up, and when you use the washers it will spray onto the paintwork. Salt can damage the paint. Windscreen washer fluid is salt free. Washer fluid also contains some anti-icing ingredient which can prevent the screen from icing up when you use it in freezing weather.
@@Planefix1 I did have it effect the paint on a car. I thought if I kept using it, it would cause more damage each time, so I stopped using it. It was not bad but you could see it. However it was an old car which would have been painted with cellulose. Maybe modern paints are more resistant to it.
@@replevideo6096 yes perhaps, I find modern car paint really good to be fair. Normally a wash with some good car soap like AutoGlym etc is enough to make them shine like new I find
thanks for the tutorial i opened the - cap not to be opened - to check the coolant flued to check the coolant level. getting confused not seeing any indication to how much it was.... i completely missed expansion tank.... your video was extremly helpful thanks!
This 1 kr-fe consumes a lot of oil by its design.you should check it regularly every two weeks its ok.from the upper dot to the bottom dot its about a litter of oil.its better to use 5w-30 oil and of course fully synthetic oil.if you change and check your oil you'll have it for a life! This engine is bulletproof.
Well then my engine is broken! It does not burn oil at all, nothing! I just service it every 15k kilometers and never have to add some between that interval!
It's 17/1/24..got my self a 2012 one of these... Love the car nice little cheap run around.. Came here about the coolant a few things on this car not to easy but okay I suppose the coolant readings abit hard to see and the dip stick comes out at such a angle lol... Got a water leak in mine rear somewhere seen some videos could be the rear top brake light... Any ideas
3 common places and all relatively easy to fix. Rear/top brake light, side indicator housings and the other requires removing the bumper as it is the vents.. A gasket set is available for the rear lights (about £14), use some silicone gasket sealant as well and they can all be sorted. Start with just doing the top brake light. There's plenty of videos available as it is a very common thing. The bumper is quite easy to remove too.
Thank you very much for the video. Certainly made my life easier. For the coolant, I couldn’t see the max level so I filled just above min line shown in the video. Assume that is okay?
Shouldn't someone be careful with tapwater use in a car or any mineral water due to calcification later on affecting the whole car engine with repeated tapwater/bottled water use? Thanks
Hi, well yes "technically" you should normally use distilled and if this car was a 1 million pound Bugati Veyron or a 1920's Rolls Royce i would use distilled. But honestly every person (and pretty much every garage in the world) use normal tap water. The correct use of antifreeze/summer coolant is absolutely more critical than perhaps using simple tap water as this is highly developed addative, that has all the anticorrosive properties etc required. Further more, any water (tap, bottle, stream ive even used windscreen washer before in an emergency) is better than no water, as no water equals engine destroyed. Honestly, trust me, half a cup of tap water tap once every 6 months is absolutely fine. 😁
Oil also cools the engine if it's topped up.Always use screen wash in the winter and always put anti-freeze in the expansion bottle.Top tip is when the engine oil is drained and with the sump plug is already out/off is to pour some new, clean engine oil.It will remove some the dirty oil already sitting/laying on the bottom of the oil pan....do this on extensive oil drains if you go over 8,000 miles, but i would suggest an oil change every 5.000 miles....it's good for the engine. And don't get any rubbish from Halfords as they're cheap tat.Euro car parts,GFS,local Wheels motor factor or anywhere else.Avoid Halfords at all costs.
Hi thanks for your comments. Ive used Halfords oil before and not had any problems to be fair, it will be perfectly good for a C1 in my view. Also all oil changes are good and the more frequent the better, but i think 5000 is a bit keen for a small car such as a C1 😊
@@Planefix1 Frequent oil changes are important for VVT-i engines,i assume your car has it? Sludge is no good for VVT-i as it needs to flow easily and may clog up the thin oil passages, especially the top part of the engine.
@@PeterSmith-ls7ut i wouldn't have a problem using it. Clean oil is more important than the exact match in such a car. If it were a high performance/turbo model then yes, but in a little C1 i would use this no problem
Hi, there is only 2 ways this can happen. 1) Someone has put oil into the coolent system by mistake or 2) Most likely your head gasket has failed. You need to take it to a garage and ask them to do a pressure test of the cylinder head gasket. If the water just has the appearance of an oily 'film' on the top (it can look like this sometimes, on some cars when all is OK) and if the car is performing well, you have no water in the oil (makes the oil go creamy) and if you have no excessive white smoke coming out of the tailpipe when driving, then I would change the coolent, flush and refill with new water/antifreeze.
@@Planefix1 Thank you for your reply i changed the coolant today. I found just oil in the expansion tank and nothing in the radiator. A mechanic checked everything and adviced me to drive 1 week and see if the oil come back. I thinks some idiot who was owning the car before me put oil inside it. Thank you
Erm... I’ve just filled mine up after the engine coolant light kept coming on occasionally... so I took the caution one off and adding a mixture (to the ratio on the back of the coolant bottle) now you’ve said not too im worried hahaha will it be okay? X
There is a temperature indicator in all C1's. It is a small warning light that activates if the temperature becomes too high. If you are referring to a temperature "gauge" then no they don't have on of those. With respect to the oil, both 5w 30 and 10w 40 are both acceptable to use in this engine. The reality is there is actually very little difference between either from a specific lubrication point of view, it is personnel choice. I prefer a slightly heavier oil as the engines in these are quite noisy at the best of times and I believe they run better/quieter on 10w40 myself.
To be fair I watched again I did say indicator 'rising' not 'will come on' so I understand the confusion. This is my daughters car and she's just gone to uni. I'll be honest I made this so she can refer to it when she's away and if she needs to check the car over etc. I appreciate all comments. Cheers Dave
Don't put tap water in the coolant tank. Ready to use anti freeze. Not concentrated. In these the pink stuff is correct. Just water risks engine freezing up. Don't put just water in the screen wash. Ready to use screen wash is best. Wash up liquid damages the paintwork. Don't risk the wash freezing across the glass on a motorway. You can't see a thing. Use the correct oil 0-20 or 5-30. 10-40 or other oils are too thick for these little engines. Never wait for the oil light to come on. That's engine about to fail. Teetering on the edge. Some poor advice in this video.
A little water in an expansion tank to "top it up" is absolutely fine inbetween services. And simple water in your screen wash is better than no water!. And of course it's not as good as garage screen wash, that's obvious. I've owned 4 of these cars now and worked on a fair few more. This video is designed for someone who knows absolutely nothing about cars full stop. If you listen gain, I do state many times "general servicing" and "topping up". Of course in a garage or during a service you will check and top up or change complete fluids etc, but for topping up in between services water is just fine. I also disagree with your oil comments. If you think the advice is poor Bob, why are you watching such a basic video .....And if you can do better, be my guest! ..... feedback is a gift, but only when it is relative and fair.
Actually learned more about my car in this video then the months of driving and theory lesson 🙂🤦🏻♂️
