Hey Caleb, I was wondering if you would do any collabs with Derek from Vice Grip Garage? I think it would be pretty awesome, seeing new-school and old-school mechanic working together on a C10 with an RB swap or something like that.
I have to say the patience, film work, quality and editing of this video is unmatched by 90% of the creators on UA-cam. This was a top notch video! Even through the struggles of shipping and wrong parts you have a killer video!
Agreed. Since he's hired someone to help film and stuff I like his style or videos. I've always liked it but it's uped up a notch now. Heavily underrated channel by far.
This whole build is so professional. Every video is exciting. Even the damn battery bracket is like wow. Filming is great too. Hope you're enjoying the Ginginasium good times man 😎👌
Wow, no extra pins? It is pretty much expected that you break at least 1 pin. Really they should give you 25% extra. Great job on the electrical! It looks amazing and very organized.
@Gingium I had a job making similar connectors. Every piece is pricey! And then the real official crimper is multiple thousands dollars. A de-pinner and extra pins are necessary to get it done properly
Hey man, you're going to want to fuse the power line from the battery, a lot of pinch points and since you're running under-body it's easy for something to come up and bust the wire, and it prevents from any dumb ways power can get cut
I’m old enough to be your dad, yet I completely see a bond between us. I’ve watched you for a couple of years now, and have not only enjoyed your content, but more also seeing you grow - as a UA-camr and a young man. Your passion and love of cars is great, but without your hard work, you’d have gone nowhere. For someone so young, your work ethic is great to see. Looking forward to seeing many more years of terrific content. Keep your nose to the grindstone!
As a former DSM'er this is by far the most involved swap I have ever seen or heard of. I'm showing up late to the party because for some reason even subscribed with notifications on none of your videos were on my timeline until I was searching rear wheel eclipse swaps and then. . . . BOOM! mid engine DSM swap galore! Incredible idea, and very well executed. Keep up the great work brotha!
You can run shielded wire through the bulkhead. Just pin the shield jacket on its own pin and ideally keep the signal wires away from other high current wires in the connector.
The amount of time, blood, sweat, and tears, you are putting into this build is crazy. Super stoked to see the finished product. Ngl I really dont think you should give this car away, you will miss it, and it would be such a cool addition to the fleet! KEEP IT!!!
I honestly can't believe the pace of this build. It's crazy how it feels like this was a shitbox needing a new trans to now being a completely different drivetrain config and nearly running. Love the vids. LOVE the builds. Love watching the growth of the channel.
dude, I cannot tell you how stressed out I was about the wiring, yet you KILLED it and knocked it out of the park! Your skills as a mechanic are inspiring, keep up the amazing work!
Where you extended those two wires on 7:55 you should've offset butt splice connectors so they are not next to each other, for it to be cleaner harness when you wrap it up.
Word of caution with the battery hold down...it will be very easy to short across the terminals. Ideally have it between the terminals in the shorter direction. I see this a lot so you're not alone but always makes me nervous!
Sponsored by Pennzoil, fancy man! If Pennzoil is listening: After watching this video, I will be putting Pennzoil in all of my vehicles (and not just because it is the recommended oil for my engine). I will also speak to my manager and request the switch to Pennzoil (the premium choice for automotive engines) in our shop.
It's genuinely good stuff. Used it for well over a decade now and it actually keeps my engines spotless inside. No blown engines either despite long change intervals and many road trips.
It has a programmable ecu called Fueltech, I believe that this issue of excess wires would be much cleaner, not to mention the extreme quality and they give you all the support you need after sales. A Brazilian product that leads the world today.
Gotta say dude, the new content, the new shop, new builds, your killing it man, out of all the big automotive UA-cam’s out there like cleetus, Adam lz, donut media, etc. your videos are always my go to over everything!! Watching you grow and learn new things, and progress and explain everything with us as you go is just awsome. Keep up the awsome work man truly inspiring!!
@gingium I'm really impressed with what you do now, I'm a early watcher and there where many uploads were I thought it was gonna end in hospital... keep evolving and you'll be one off the best. You're mostly self-taught, so it's hella impressive!
Idk if this is a nitpick or not, but that metal battery mount bar isn't insulated and that bothers me lol, slap some wrap or something on it or thiccc coats of paint. would hate for someone to take the bar off and accidentally short the battery together
@@_Gingium_ Excellent work on the car though! I hate to be that guy In the comment section 😅 can't wait for the finished product, this is the best build yet!
Generally pack the oil pump with vasteline or similar on a fresh build so it can pickup oil or do what you did. Some engines just won't self prime without the pump being greased though, Rover V8 (Buick based) is a good example.
when I subscribed to your channel you had Fred, the Focus. and I’m proof of your commitment to become a great professional. from sticker-bombing your dashboard to making an awesome mid-engine swap! that’s so cool! I’m a huge fan of your work!
Awesome work Caleb! You should really search out the electrical supply companies around you. I'm sure Savannah (?) has a few big ones. They'll give you a free catalog the size of an Atlanta phone book and nearly always have electrical connectors and pins like that in stock. No more waiting for Amazon, you'll normally get what's not in stock in hours or days from the next closest store or distribution center. Hope this tidbit helps on future projects.
Huge fan of the videos, I would strongly recommend putting some sort of padding or weather stripping on the battery tray though, as bare metal with ouch padding may cause battery issues, this would also prevent the top mounting plate from ground the two battery posts together which as you know would not end well.
wiring can be a pretty good vibe but when pins break, get stuck inside connectors, or tools break, it is one of the most frustrating things to do with cars lol.
Wiring is never a good time to me. I was once helping a mate's dad get his RX7 ready because his daily was out of rego the next day. I almost assembled the whole driveline while he directed and did the wiring. Perfect team haha

For the bigger gauge wire and terminals they make a tool you hit with a hammer to crimp it! Also take the terminal heat up fill with solder and while still hot stick wire in.
I'd highly recommend welding a bottom plate to the battery tray. One stray rock and that battery would get punctured and become inoperable. The wiring was super slick though until your tool broke 🥲
