As a child, Igor and his friends were playing hide and seek. He noticed a slightly open metal cabinet and decided to hide inside: he climbed in, closed the door, and then it happened-he caught on fire. It was a transformer box, and 10,000 volts of electricity passed through him. The discharge entered his ear, traveled through his body, and exited through his fingers. He was wearing a tank top at the time, of which only the collar remained. Everything else was burned. It took the ambulance 20 minutes to arrive-as eyewitnesses recounted (our interviewee does not remember this)-during which time Igor ran around the yard screaming in pain. In the hospital, it was determined that the boy had 65% of his body burned due to the electrical shock. Igor spent three months in bed, living with excruciating pain. He underwent about 20 operations, nearly all of them skin grafts. The skin was taken from areas like his thigh and grafted onto the affected parts of his body. At one point, the child even experienced clinical death. As an adult, Igor still has large scars all over his body, a reminder of that childhood game. This is the story of someone who, only after years, accepted himself and his body.
