I just had my atomic boots canted (in the sole with angled plates) by Gregg and his team at Start Haus. They are the most professional boot fitters one can find.
Hello ! Thank you for your video. I have a question, where do we find the tool to adjust the cuff (on Salomons pricesly) ? Thank you for your answer :)
Tools supplied vary by brand and model- as long as you have the eccentric washer on your model (and if you are missing the tool) you can always improvise with a flat head screwdriver or the like to push the notch into your desired position.
I have Atomic boots (same parent company as Salomon, and the cuff-alignment hardware looks similar). I use snap-ring pliers to adjust the cuff-alignment hardware (specifically, 9-inch external 90-degree angled snap-ring pliers).
Can this solve preasurre at the nerve on inside ankle, after 2 hours my foot is numb a painfull, the bootfiting with heat molding did help but it is still far from ideal..thanks.
Hard to tell without seeing all the pieces of the puzzle, but this simple cuff alignment is certainly something everyone should do if they have that hardware! In the very least, having your leg and upper cuff aligned properly eliminates a possible issue so you can then further explore and address other potential problems.
Not necessarily- any alignment issues will need to be addressed firstly with properly fit footbeds (even trim-to-fit options). True canting and alignment procedures are done (when needed) only after all the other pieces are in place! (However, the simple cuff alignment as shown in this video can be done with a stock footbed.)
This super basic cuff alignment is something every skier (and fitter) should be doing, which makes sure your cuff is NOT forcing you knee and leg into an unnatural position. The actual cant and alignment procedure is measuring that stance and then adding angled plates to the boot sole FORCING a corrective knee and leg position. We'll release a video on that soon. 😀
You are shooting for roughly hip width (not shoulder width). When doing this cuff adjust at home, you just want to make sure your stance is relaxed and natural and your feet (in the shell) is flat and level- don't overthink the spacing too much! That canting stand Gregg uses helps us ballpark the stance based off a given height to speed this up.
Yeah. From what I understand. Just stand like your are skiing. With that stance. And then the boots should be levelled. If the boots push at any direction. You get problems with the edge similarity. But. I guess you knew that. Already.

I love the way he is approaching this. It’s not rocket science. It’s skiing, relax man. Nice job.
Exactly what I needed!
Exactly what I wanted

Does a custom made foot bed basically removed the need to do any boot canting adjustments?

How does this ''canting'' compare/contrast to the procedure done where drop lines on the knee patella to the boot are used.

It is unclear how to calculate the distance between boots based on the skier's height. Could you pls explain this in more details?
