    That 50hz capacitor has been waiting all these years to be usefull :-D
    The tape seems to play very well considering how far back it was recorded.
    Have fun with the bloopers :-D.

      Basically yes, it has been sitting unused. These caps have 2 separate capacitors in the main can, so yes it is fine for now.

    Man, you must have a bunch of machines in your possession! Every video seems to show another unit. Love your videos.

      I have too much stuff. I just took a truck load of stuff from a couple of production companies that are no longer in the business (I knew both of the guys as I worked with them both way back when I was in the TV broadcasting business) We all ended up running competing production businesses. All of us are out now (gee I wonder why) with the exception that I still do archiving work. Some of this gear I will keep, the 3/4 stuff, but the VHS and Sony R5 will be sold off. I try to find good homes for this vintage stuff, as I have more machines than I will ever need but it is tough to give this stuff away these days. Some pieces do command good prices. One piece I got was a nice old Universal wooden tripod with a fluid head. It is shown supporting the Sony camera in the titlemaker video. I was going to keep that one as I have always liked woodies, as they set up fast, and don't jam up like aluminum units, but when I saw what they go for used, I may just have to part with this one, because they go for a small fortune.

      VO4800 and some RARE footage coming up next.
      Have some vintage footage on the Rolling Stones on 3/4" from 1978. This machine was working, but I took it apart anyway.

    Does that Black and Decker rechargeable screw driver ever get used? I've seen it sitting in the same location in about 6 videos now.

    I really enjoy your videos! Btw, what's the analog resolution of Umatic? Close to VHS?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  8 років тому

      Umatic horizontal resolution is 330 lines, which is about 90 better than VHS 240 on NTSC, and 30 better than Beta1. Beta2 had a resolution of 280 lines.

      @@12voltvids Isn't that U-Matic SP? I thought standard U-Matic was 220.

      Much higher quality that VHS and beta.

      Umatic did have a high band version which was the sp version. Sp meaning superior picture.

    I think my Sanyo Betacord that uses an AC motor has a big cap on the back of the machine too.

    some cinemas here in britain especially the ABC chain who twinned and tripled their cinemas if one of the screens usually screen 3 was too small for a projector to be fitted in the space left used two umatic machines linked together to show films the reason for this was that the tapes were only an hour long so to show a film plus ads and trailers they had to use two machines

      So you went to the cinema to watch a video?

    • @TheThecyclist
      @TheThecyclist 6 років тому

      no released films were played on umatic machines when the screen was small and the projection booth created had no room to install a projector and tower system to show 35mm film the machines were linked together so that when one machine finished the second machine started as the tape size was an hour hence the two machines here is a link with details about a cinema which used umatic machines www.scottishcinemas.org.uk/scotland/dunfermline/orient.html

    Can a 3 phase motor and motor controller be used to replace a induction motor and picking the sync signal of from somewhere to feed back to the 3 phase motor controller board to force everything back into sync assuming that there is a phase locked loop inside the 3 phase motor controller chip.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  8 років тому

      The reason an AC induction motor was used was because it syncs up with the AC line frequency. You could put in a 3phase motor and controller and set it to 1800RPM. The head phase is controlled by a magnetic brake. All future VCRs did use a 3 phase drum motor.

    Why not transfer those tapes to digital and make them available for Patrons? Would be interesting to see.
