  • This week on Keeping It Real, Adeola explains why Nigeria needs to be restructured and how it should be done.
Also, some people want Nigeria to break up. Is this the solution? Find out the two sides of the argument.

No, she is a hypocrite. This restructuring talk has been on the table for a long time without results. We all know what is holding it back despite all the talks. Yet she has consistently fought and attacked those that have made more efforts to act rather than just talk about issues that can lead to her so-called restructuring. What does all these fancy talks serve if despite that, no one stands to question what is happening with credible actions), and we still go ahead and vote and carry on as if everything is normal; Voting the same thieves and brigands that have brought us to this level. Why are we acting as if those cabals are not aware of what is needed to make Nigeria better? Is it not potently clear that they have carried on simply, as they wished and even created and promoted institutions and instruments to keep the structure just as they pleased? And they will not stand back and allow any change to status quo without a fight. So, what's the point of this lecture? Just imagine the lame excuse that she has presented as a reason for not wanting a break-up. When we were formerly 3 regions did people including minorities feel any differently? We have the history to teach us that inclusiveness pays. Suppose we decide to ffractionalize among contiguous groups, will that not serve as a unifying factor? Just saying, suppose the minorities in the middle belt decide to join forces with the minorities in the east or west to form a unit, who says that they cannot coexist under agreed terms? It is misguided to think that having a referendum amounts to calling for a break up or that asking for break up will always result in war. If well guided especially, if the parties concerned negotiate properly, there is no way it will become acrimonious or degenerate to war. Okay, as the thought of a break up is so abhorrent, why can't we use the fear of it as a rallying point to propel the movement of more equitable structure through the alignments of groups that believe they can work together? So that together these groups can become veritable threats to status quo and hence, force the cabals to comply to restructuring as a better alternative. Clearly, this cannot happen with mere rhetorics . Yes, it is nice that we remain one entity, yes, there maybe losses here and there, yes there maybe be some potential for another civil war. But this time, who will be fighting who if universally, we agree to break up in peace? Rather than talking restructuring, let's make a given by impressing on the cabals the potentials of a break up through alignment and support of those already pushing such agenda, instead of fighting them. Once the cabals realises that their influence has become erroded with the emergent influence, they will be willing to negotiate or rather they will be forced to concede to a more popular alternative. Until the cabal understand that we mean business and are ready to go the whole hog to get an equitable arrangement in Nigeria, they will continue playing us amongst ourselves and our issues will remain, business as usual. Talks will continue till thy kingdom comes, without action, just like Adeola is doing presently, because no one will "bell the cat" and the winner will remain the oppressors.

They are sold behind and not accounted for, We biafrans are different and want to go, staying together should not buy force, we are being killed when we are in Nigeria so we need security that nobody provides for us .

Adeola, sorry to burst your bubble but can we be honest with ourselves as human beings first, and next as black Africans.
REFERENDUM by any other name is REFERENDUM.
Why all the warped contorted equivocating Adeola?
Finally, why so malicious with the US and THEM narrative?...your points could have stood on their own merits, but somehow you had to sanctimoniously rope in "those who want a break up"....as if what they're after is somehow dishonorable.
If we're so desirous of non-negotiable indivisible unity why stop at our borders? why not use the magic-marker lugard used and tie in Benin Republic, Togo, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Niger, and Chad? or the entire West Africa. That's how geographically arbitrary the "Nigeria" we pretend to be holier than thou defenders of is.
Our enemy is not each other and has never been. Our enemy remains forced amalgamation.
Amalgamation is like a bundled spell that has held seemingly intelligent blacks bound in a daze of cyclical insanity like hamsters on a treadmill unable to exercise the prerogative to free themselves and too greedy for oil gains and hate for their perceived competition to notice impending demise.
Yes I said DEMISE. Without a referendum we will not have the ability to "restructure"
"RESTRUCTURING" is not a gift from some benevolent government!...it is what the governed demand, and the government listens to and grants!

When you meet a follow Nigerian any where in the world, the first question they usually ask you and I quote " What part of Nigeria". Which is wrong and a clear division within people of Nigeria. The world is watching and listening using the opportunity (Division) to milk the system because of lack of togetherness in Nigeria. Where have we gone wrong Nigerians?

Nigerian has been bastardised so much. enemity has perverded into the fabric, there is mistrust to the core.
we need to find out whether the various ethnic groups want to continue to leave together as one unit or not. A lot of Igbos never reconcile what happen in 1914.
I believe it must be revisited before we can go any further. The Igbos have been severally traumatised that they no longer believe in one Nigeria. Any attempt of forcing them into one Nigeria is doomed to failure. We must use this opportunity to resolve this intractable case.
We all appropriate the advantages of remaining together but if the elements cannot mix then it is futile, remember we can always be good neighbours.
For me, the insults that has been thrown around various ethnic groups and the damage and feeling of hatred after the war is enough to disolve Nigeria.
The minor ethnic groups will be given the opportunity to affiliate with any of the neighbouring group, indeed if they want to remain as a sovereign state well and good , there are viable states today that are less than five millions.

Just saw this in my recommended feed. While I do not support a break up of Nigeria, I also know that people have a right to self determination and should be afforded the opportunity to choose to remain with Nigeria or not. This is primarily due to the circumstances in which independent tribes were brought together to form the country Nigeria. It was little better than a business transaction for the benefit of the British colonialists. The tribes had next to no participation in it.
Restructuring is not just welcome but necessary and urgent and must come on the heels of a referendum i.e. having determined those that want to remain Nigeria, the terms of restructuring must then be agreed on to spell out the constitutional basis on which the entity will be organized.
What i do not support however, is restructuring to grant independence to states. I mean it is necessary for the units to be independent and control their resources, police and all but given the fact that the states do not all have the same potential for growth, this arrangement is more likely to be detrimental to some states while being a leverage for speedy growth for some other states. However if the restructuring is done along regional lines with the various states as administrative counties, the central authority for each regional can leverage on the wealthier counties within their region for even distribution of wealth to the entire region. This was why regionalism was a huge success in the first Republic. Also the competition among the regions will also foster growth. Plus the regions should be divided along the six geo-political units Nigeria presently recognizes and the respective states will be administrative counties under their respective regions.

Some terms used were disappointing like 'breaking up of the country' and some examples given were deliberate to scare people like Yugoslavia and Colonial India. Why must there be killing if people wish to live a separately? Communities are living together today and thousands of people are killed for flimsy excuses. The main issue is that the country seems to be held together by force and sometimes against the will of the people. A referendum is not a bad idea and I believe that should be included in the debate of Restructuring. Forcing everyone to learn Hausa, Ibo or Yoruba is wrong as the whole problem in Nigeria seems to be all these FORCING PEOPLE TO BE TOGETHER.

Nigeria is too rich to be suffering like this. Nigeria is highly blessed with lots of mineral resources but we lack competent and concerned leaders who can use what we have to give us what we need. There are lots of sectors which we can use to make billions in Nigeria . But what do we have? Empty skulls💀 in government. See China, see China 🇨🇳 oh my God. exactly. that's why life is harder for the typical american. The corporations and govt have no incentive to improve the education because they just import the best from around the world to take our jobs or create jobs. Either way, there are negatives and positives to the situation. America does brain drain and it makes competition here pretty fierce. Most Americans can't compete with 1st, and 2nd generation immigrants coming from overseas. They are too ambitious.

    • @daniells71
      @daniells71 8 років тому +3

Dexter Williams Wow! I had never looked at it that way! Excellent observation. There truly is no incentive to improve local conditions if you can just import what you need at a fraction of the cost. Sorry to say bro, but I am part of that "problem" that you talk about. And yes all my family members own businesses but we do employ Americans and immigrants alike without bias. The the thing though is that we have never been given anything. Everything we have we have sweated for. It sucks, cause my mom has tried to empower a lot of people born out here in the hood but a lot don't budge. I think this video makes sense and I doff my heart for you, my sister. Unfortunately, our leaders are ignorant either deliberately or because of their selfish greed. The word of Yahweh say: My people perish for lack of knowledge. Our ignorance is displayed in most things we do. That is why even in serving or worship the Creator, most people are not saved. Just read Romans 10:1-3. Apostle said that have a zeal but not saved because of ignorance and they don't know the righteousness of Yahweh. More religious country but more wicked as even the church is turned to money making venture with fake men and women with big titles working for the devil and Satan has taken over.

Brilliant idea. But don't you think it's too late to restructure now? The big issue is the inability of the Leadership to comprehend. Most of them have nothing upstars. they're simply empty of great ideas. If it's working here in The US, why can't it work in our own Nigeria?

Madam Adeola, our problem in Nigeria is History. We forgot our history too fast. we don't ask important questions.
    1. Why are we christians? how does it affect our society? if the bible was given to the Jews have we asked them about it? from the research i did, jews did not use violence to spread their word. I can't say the same for christianity(violence is not just with guns, fear is also a weapon )
    2. Why were we colonized?? why was the bible given to us?? do you think people that came to take over your land want the best for you? do you honestly believe that?
    3. From my point of view, the real success of the enemy is his or her ability to turn your direction away from the truth.
    4. Adeola, please teach Nigerians their true History.

Babajide Jacob, I love your comments. if you do not know history, you becomes nobody. British invaded Yoruba land, Igbo land, Hausa land and they were applied four basic rule. (1) Kill the strong and loot the place. (2) Breed the weak. (3) Deport the smartest and skilled one. (4) Impose the colonial rule.

My dear, restructuring nigeria is an impossibility. You're a journalist and you shouldn't be airing your private personal views, instead of bringing out the voice of the masses and throwing it out there. Listen, you were born, you're old enough, and you will die,yet nigeria will be the way it is. That's the gospel truth. Another thing, stop comparing American structure with Nigerian structure, they're not the same thing, mentality and system. You've spent good times trying to talk about the benefits of restructuring, spend time to bring division/disintegration into limelight, talk about its benefits too. Yes, that is true journalism !!!.
Study the Fulani culture, and you will understand that they're not letting you go , they hold you and they hold you forever. Hausa man no dey expose him money oh, but he's the real thief. They own nigeria, they care less about education which is the hugest path to exposure and modernization, cattle rearing is all they wanna do right inside Aso Rock, they don't even care.
Good analyses by the way, but it's never happening, you want the Hausa Fulani kingdom to give you up and all the power ???. Bro, sit down and think.
The way you talked about breaking up, is so DUMBBBBBBBBB. You're in New York, is New York part of nigeria ?. GTFOH.

If we fear to lose some things and move forward at our individual speed and directions once and for all, we'll continue to lose far more persons to disease, terrorism, etc, together as a moribund, irreparable, unmendable country, which may eventually explode and take even more lives.

Princess ADEOLA FAYEHUN, please don't doubt the ability of each ethnic group to rule itself in Nigeria. Each ethnic group has been ruling itself PEACEFULLY before Lord Luggard brought his confusion, anarchy, bloodshed, mistrust, robberies, kidnapping, calamities and social disorders in the amalgamated territories. Each ethnic group which is as big in population as Gambia, Singapore, Seychelles, Lichtenstein, is able to rule itself happily and peacefully. This is 21st DEMOCRACY of ENLIGHTENMENT!!!
Secondly, it may not be an understatement to versify that the Yoruba is the largest population in Nigeria, if the Hausa and Fulani are not grouped together. Alone, the population of the "stolen Yoruba in Diaspora" is about 20, 000, 000.
Thirdly, since everything is a guesswork regarding the number of the ethnic groups in Nigeria, why don't we say we have 100 tongues in the country which are too many and too intimidating for even an intellectually-equipped leader, the one we never have since the UNDEMOCRATIC AMALGAMATION. Blood, Tears and Sorrows--Fela. Blessed be his memory!!!

Nigeria's problem is NOT colonialism; nor is it endemic corruption, failed economy, elitist leaders, poor planning, bad constitution etc. All these things are a mere smokescreen to hide the real problem.
The problem with Nigeria can be explained in 4 simple sentences:
I: Unless a society runs a merit-based system, all sectors deteriorate.
II: Nigeria tried merit before and ended up with Igbos leading EVERY sector (economy, education, military, science, transport, trade, diplomacy etc).
III: Nigeria refuses to go back to merit because of 'risk' of Igbo domination.
IV: Nigeria cannot improve, because it cannot run a merit-based society.
Igbo people (the engine of Nigeria’s advancement), are stifled by an Islam-motivated cabal which prefers power to meritocracy. Igbo ostracisation is the main reason for Nigeria’s irreversible backwardness.
SUMMARY: Nigeria is in a catch-22. Institute merit and Igbos inevitably become the top dogs. Deny merit and Nigeria goes to the dogs.
SOLUTION: The only way forward is Igbo autonomy or independence. A successful Igbo nation will serve as a model, inspiration and challenge to what remains of Nigeria without the Igbos. Otherwise neither Igbos nor Nigerians can make any sustainable progress. The other way is to attempt to destroy Igbos totally (like Hitler's final Jewish solution). This second option has been tried (through various pogroms culminating in the Civil War) but failed!.

Nigeria had "local government police" but politicians used the police against their political opponents. Hence it was merged with the Nigeria Police Force. Marijuana was "found" in my high school teacher's car by local government police. My teacher belonged to Action Group while the government was controlled by a rival political party - NCNC. This is the presumed bane of State Police.

*The same Northern Region (aka Fulani Caliphate) who refused to participate in independence unless guaranteed PARITY with the SE, and SW Regions respectively are now:*
_1) Actively seeking to shutdown development in the _*_SE._*
_2) Using _*_SE Oil money_*_ to prospect for oil in the NE whose wealth when it comes in would be used to totally shutdown the _*_entire South_*_ till they colonize it._
_3) Going around the world making deals with Russia and China affecting the entire _*_Southern Region_*_ but with total disregard for the _*_entire South._*
