Pete, I am glad you are a student because that makes you a great teacher. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and presenting the information in an easy to understand manner. Your enthusiasm is heart-warming.
Lovely video. We recently purchased our first Dexter heifer, who is dun. She is bred to a red bull. I'm trying to figure out what color baby will be.....😂. We love you guys! You were one of our Dexter inspirations!
At the beginning when you were talking about the calf and how the Mom didn't accept it I thought oh no another cow heading for the butcher. So glad they both bonded and things worked out. Thanks for the generic cattle color lesson.
thanks for the video, it kind of fell into what and i thought about color coats on the diffrent animals, didnt know bout genetics or how they work, all i know is if i breed male [a ] to female [ b ] i would get a broken coat[ spots ] on piglets, or a tri color coat, the calves we always bought from other farms, thank you for the video, be strong, be safe, and be blessed
The chances of having a black cow if both parents have recessive genes is 3:4, not 2:3. You can look up Punnett square and check the diagram for a monohybrid cross. (The dun mutation is a separate recessive gene.)
I’ve been looking for some dexter calves around here (Indiana Illinois line ) haven’t found any yet I breed goats and pigs and usually buy bottle calves or young calves and feed to butcher I would love to try some dexter to try some of that yellow fat meat
Would you consider doing a video on helping the a green horn like myself understand some terms on Dexter? (Explain) I was looking on the American Dexter association website. Reading up on all the information on dexters. When I looked up dexters for sale part of the site. I came across terms I am not familiar with or understand. For example, Chondrodysplasia - Non Carrier PHA status - Non Carrier and many other terms. What should we know about dexters before we buy a dexter? Thanks
I think that's a great video idea; I'll put that in the hopper. There's a lot of genetic stuff that impacts Dexters. Chondrodysplasia is dwarfism and PHA is a pulmonary hypoplasia; a genetic condition that results in underdevelopment of the lungs. Both are recessive traits so you need both Mom & Dad to be carriers for a problem to develop.

The advice from one climate change “expert”, I saw recently, was too stop frequent flying, stop driving cars and to stop eating beef immediately to avoid a global catastrophe in 2030. Is that even possible?
As i see it climate change is a wild theory and i say that because we've only been on this earth a few centuries and it is millions of years old,ice caps have melted and ice ages have brought them back many a time before we existed, mother nature finds a way
Went back to one of your old videos, nice quality content..keep them coming
I’m a life long student and Pete is my professor, thank you Pete for teaching me all about Dexter’s

Great video, Pete! Love the calves!
We do too!
Well I was hoping to catch one of your one-liners. It was a good video but, I really enjoyed the way you do your videos now.
I love that you name all your animals!
Your herd so pretty love watching them
Great video I’m always learning something new from you!
Thank you, for taking the time to share what you know.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video bye you give an explanation about the different breeds.

Hi Russ, that's the common sense explanation! It's when you breed two black animals and you get a red one that you get a real surprise.
@@JustaFewAcresFarm dna transfer is so freaking random.
Great video Mr. Pete!
Awesome!
