  • In this video, you will learn how to start a tire recycling business. Let's take a closer look at what goes into starting a tire recycling business and how we can make yours profitable before you start one.
Tire recycling is a relatively new concept. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, the vast majority of tires were dumped on public lands or disposed of in landfills, with only 11% repurposed. Thanks to technological advancements and reprocessing techniques, that figure had risen to 81.4 percent by 2017. Despite this, Americans discard over 290 million tires each year.

Your video is missing many of the main points of tire recycling and has some major fatal flaws. First flaw: You don't EVER purchase tires to recycle. The main source of income from tire recycling is from the fees you charge to take in tires (Tipping fee). This can be anywhere from $1.50 to $4.00 for car and light truck tires and up to $200 for AG tires. Second Flaw: finding a niche is not good enough for your product. It is all based on location and state laws. Tire derived fuel and daily top cover for landfills are the most common ways of disposing of tires and all of these methods require a shredder or multiple shredders and screening equipment. Even the simplest primary shredding operation doing 400 tires per hour costs around 200k to start. Getting into wire free mulch or crumb rubber is $750k - $1.5M to start. Great logistics and maintenance are the only things that will determine success in this business. NO one makes a dime on the back end, it is eaten up by equipment maintenance, fuel and labor. Once you understand this and have the discipline to stick with the numbers, will you be able to survive and possibly thrive in this business. If you want to jump into this as a green eco nut trying to change the earth just winging it, you will lose guaranteed!

You are dead on in your assessment of the tire recycling industry. I've worked for a scrap tire transporter for 18 years, it very hard work with profit margins on the lower end of the scale. I know owners of shredding facilities very well and the cost of operating and maintenance on those machines are very high. One guy bought a machine for 750k and the upkeep yearly is 50-70k on a good year. Drums are always cracking, grinding teeth need to be replace constantly and the parts costs are insane!

@@JacobFlores25 call your local state EPA office and ask what the requirements are to become a licensed scrap tire transporter. EPA requirements a license to transport scrap tires to the facilities. That's makes you the middle man, tire shop charges for disposal, you charge the tire shop to haul their tires to the facilities that's the way the system works.

@@JacobFlores25 tbh you're better off opening your own mechanic shop if that's what you enjoy doing. Scrap tires require a lot of overhead (employee/helper, truck purchase/maintenance, insurance, bonding etc.) and not much profit including very physical work.

Great video! I’d like to see a longer video on starting a tire recycling business, especially about grinding it up. I’d like to find out more about the uses in application of the rubber grounds.

Well this is something else I actually do this we do this in Ontario it is very expensive you need to be more than a multi-millionaire you are a slave to the recycling program the cost of Hydro has quadrupled in the last 10 years labour rates have doubled of course you're not the only one picking up these tires then you need to get a army of trucks a team of drivers but then you need to make a product the product needs to be sold so you can pay for the bills you have to approach big box doors basically have to give them the product that's how they get so rich you need to start exporting at around the world that's a whole lotta headaches if you ever want to see any food for basically putting up a video telling people they can start recycling tires I would move on to a different video and trust me I have to experience I've been doing this for over 20 years I'm just telling the truth
