We are spoiled by your usual mixes. This recording has some of my absolute least favorite elements of a live mix: Way too much compression, lead vocals with too much reverb and really strangled frequency response, making the singer sound like he's singing through a pipe on the other side of the room, and backing vocals that are WAY too loud, and also so up-front and clear that the backing vocals sound like they're right in your ear. I see this shit happen at live shows so often, where the lead singer is practically missing from the mix, and backup singers have the kind of clarity and punch that the lead singer should have had. It's like the lead singer's track has a notch filter on it, only allowing about 2khz through, totally removing any clarity and depth he may have had. Your usual mixes sound so much better than this, it goes to show the quality of your work versus the norm that we are usually exposed to!
Daniel G I appreciate that a lot. A stereo board mix doesn’t translate very well on recording so it’s not completely at the fault of anyone who mixes a touring band, this sounded great in the venue but you gotta mix front of House a certain way to sound good in the room. That’s why I’m glad I’m always able to capture multitracks when it comes to bands I mix
yeah I suppose having the actual backline there blasting out a couple hundred watts of audio probably helps the live experience feel more balanced! Still, I've heard that same exact tunnel effect on the singer so many times before. I dunno if it's the sound guys trying to prevent feedback from the singer moving around all over the place, but whatever it is, it's always disheartening to me, as someone who used to do sound in a theater, to hear the vocalist sound like they're literally being phoned in.
@@witeshade him cupping the mic the entire time is probably a BIG factor, that's usually why the sounds so muffled and the backing vocals are fine, one cups the mic and the other doesn't. Easy to tell which one sounds clearer.
Thanks for the vid, Leo. In case you wanted to put the set list in the description here it is... Setlist: 0:12 Council of the Dead 3:47 *new song* 7:41 The Show Must Go On 11:31 Pretty In Porcelain 15:09 One In the Chamber 19:26 *new song* 22:55 To Play Hide and Seek With Jealousy
Robbie Wright I wasn’t able to get set to stun, due to the two console setup I kind of made the commitment to record the back half of the show instead of the early half. I think they’ll be back soon and I’ll get them next time

Ooo whats your band name lemme peep
Dude sings pretty decent to be honest, i expected to be much worse bc we know how singers sing live in these days..
It’s weird how in his songs he sounds kinda too good to be true. Almost auto tuned. But then his live vocals are amazing
I’ve heard some live songs where JT sounds terrible, but this is awesome! Maybe it was just a bad night
When I saw him live he was amazing lol
@Tony Glock ikr it's cool

This is so great! Did you happen to get set to stun or picturesque? I would love a set to stun set with your quality, man.
