A good practice is using an acid cleaner as step 1. RINSE then follow up with a degreaser. A degreaser will neutralize the acid and make sure you get back to neutral.(in case there is acid that didn't get rinsed perfectly ie. Lug nut holes) Just food for thought. Great videos keep it up.
Super clean degreaser is alkaline because it has to remove grease. But as a wheel cleaner, it has to remove tar and brake dust via acid. Many people assume that Super Clean wheel cleaners are are the same thing as the gallon sized Super clean degreaser in a small spray bottle...
I use purple power full strength. Absolutely make sure that the wheels are as cold as can be though..learnt my lesson with the first set of wheels I ruined because they were hot when I sprayed. I've not had any other issues, and it's fairly cheap and works great. I've used megs wheel brightener (even full strength) and it didn't work any better lol - and it cost a lot. Plus purple power cleans the tires very nicely as well.
hope you changed it from stream to spray because it was getting on the camera and paint. I used that same wheel cleaner on my motorcycle rear wheel and it worked good
how my dad worked around this was just giving the rims a scrub with your ph balanced soap after you cleaned the rims with that solution its just safe practice
You need an alkaline cleaner to use after the acid based cleaner to protect the rims. If you use only the acid based wheel cleaner it’ll be more likely to rust/corrode
When I worked in professional auto detail we used straight acid on wheels and exhaust it's all about how you use the product I never ruined a wheel or exhaust
Basically yes, it's not that it will damage like that first wheel but it could in a worst case situation. Once you curb a wheel all the clear is gone and you're facing bare metal. Depending on the wheel and what it's made of it could react like that.
I used this on a freshly refinished set of BBS rims and it etched into the finish of the rims leaving lasting damage. I probably wasted $1000 refinishing my rims.

I've been watching you for a long time...just a curious comment though - your video title says "here's why I hate them"...it's misleading util one actually watches the entire video, and learns the specifics - because you actually love Meg's WB......thanks man
Regarding ph neutral , I prefer them for wheels but as a snow foam I prefer the higher alkaline snow foams as we want to remove as much dirt as possible before doing a contact wash , I don’t want caustic but a bit higher alkaline as newer cars coming with soft paint and I would rather degrade my protection by 2% than contact wash a dirtier car and cause more swirls , it’s easy to top up protection but new cars have softer and thinner paint so can’t keep correcting the paint
So basically don't use an acidic wheel cleaner on a wheel with curb rash because it will "bleed" the metal of the wheel onto the clear coat. But won't using a degreaser on the wheel corrode the wheel? It seems to me that either type of chemical solution will ruin the wheel if it has curb rash. Is this an accurate understanding or did I miss something.
Any advice on how to remove a non-acidic wheel cleaner stains on aluminum clear coated wheels, is there anything that can be done besides complete refinish?
