I tried this, and my water turned milky white. Is there a way to turn this into some greenwater or did I do something wrong? I am new to all of this and need a greenwater culture for a school project.
This happened to me before as well, I believe it to be a sign of either low light or very intense overdose. Try using a little less and put it in the sun instead? Also make sure the culture is active - small bubbles and pressure in the bottle is a good sign
Just found your channel when I looked up green water as I want to keep daphnia. I'm looking forward to your next video on how to make the bio boost mixture. I've subscribed too.
@@SimplyAquaticCTAny update on the video of how to produce the Bio Boost? I'm not sure if the spelling but UA-cam CC wrote "Lactus Pillus" which didn't bring back any searches for it. I'm wanting to generate "clean" (no additional life that may come from tank water) so I can use the green water to feed Daphnia.
Hey! I have a couple of questions-hope you don't mind, haha! Do you know why adding beneficial bacteria helps speed up the growth of green water culture? Does algae feed on bacteria? I watched your video on how to make a bio-boost mixture, and I’m wondering if it’s because the organic ingredients, like sugar and rice, contain great nutrients that help green water grow. If I add QuickStart or TurboStart to a new green water culture, do you think it will work too? Also, what is your nitrate level of your green water culture? Thanks!
Okay let me try do this correctly: Bacterial microbes help in the conversion of the organic nutrients into absorbable states for the algae / plant growth. It's a plant and will feed on the nutrients not the bacteria. I do believe it will but haven't tested myself. I am not sure as I have not tested it, but I do find if I feed more regularly / have more livestock in the tank the green water is much thicker and healthier - indication of more nutrients = better culture.
Hello! A couple questions if you don't mind. 1. For the live green water: How do you keep the algae suspended in the water column after you transfer it from a jar to a tank? I have a 6.8 gallon shallow tank with a small pump and airline hose however the algae still tends to settle at the bottom. 2. After you put the daphnia (in my case moina) in the live green water tank, do you still continue feeding the algae with fertilizer to keep it going? Thank you so much! Love your channel.
The powerhead is probably the reason your culture is attaching to a particular section of the tank, and no I don't add ferts to the water with moina as it could result in them dying. If I was you I'd switch to a small air feed instead :) Only a pleasure, thanks for the support 😄🙌
@@SimplyAquaticCT Thank for you reply. I do not have a powerhead. Sorry to be confusing. I have a small pump (Tetra whisper) with just an airline tube. It still settles at the bottom though. Is it a location/directional thing? And if you don't add fert, do you just wait for the daphnia to clear the tank before adding more green water?
@@SimplyAquaticCT Thanks to you I have an awesome 7 gallon moina-live-green-water-aquarium going as well as a couple large jars of live green water cultures. It's all running great! BTW I experimented with adding Aquarium CoOp Easy Green Fert to feed the algae in the moina tank and it caused no deaths. (At least nothing noticeable- there are thousands and thousands in there).
@@LongfinAqua 100% man, I didn't actually think of that. I'd love to try and breed them but they are like amanos and need the whole larval brackish water phase which is too much PT for me 😂
@@SimplyAquaticCT yeah they hatch into these tiny floating larvae that need brackish water for their development. The larvae can live in freshwater for 2-3 days maximum, then they wil start to die, you need around 34 grams of salt per liter for the larvae to develop. And then after you need a super tiny food to help them grow and after 70 days you can start to decrease the salinity of the water and you should in theory have bamboo shrimp then😁
He has a MINUTE long intro that is actually useful for the video, then goes through the different methods clearly and concisely. I swear people these days have the patience of a monkey.
