Everything about this feels really elevated and beautiful curated. I do get a feeling that a lot of the styling feels like a heavy reference to a past era, and I'm a bit exhausted with the regurgitated looks. That said, this is a fantastic release and ambitious way to show off a collection.
The thing that stood out to me was mainly the dancer included towards the second half of the show. The showing I have in mind is the one where Virgil had the hip hop group Griselda playing live I believe and there was definitely a tap dancer that used distinct style of including a lot of what I’m gonna call abstract motions (for lack of knowledge on the topic of dance and the proper terminology). The second I saw the motions of the dancer in this showing I thought of Virgil’s show which was without a doubt curated from the heart through his various influences he’s not afraid to highlight. That being said what was presented had plenty of hallmarks to stand on its own without needing to rely on purposely plagiarizing anything. Give all my props to the Amiri team for what they’ve put together.
