- On 14 January, 2023 the Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh launched the 'Soul of Steel Challenge 2023' and announced it open for global participation.
Soul of Steel is the world's first Himalayan Survival and Endurance challenge. It is a unique blend of specialised mountaineering, survival skills, psychological endurance and physical toughness. Participants will be selected from a pool of highly skilled athletes, adventurers, aspirants, and the house of commons. All will be trained equally over a period of two months by Team C.L.A.W and instructors from the Indian Army.
During the course of their training, they will be trained to operate beyond the assumed limits of their body, to discover the limitless realms of their mind, consciousness and spirit. The training of participants is scheduled from March to June 2023 and will take place in two
stages at Nainital and Gamshali, Uttarakhand, leading up to the final international challenge
in June 2023 at the Nanda Devi National Park, Greater Himalayas, India.
The prospective national participants will be screened through a hybrid 2-stage screening process which combines Indian Vedic, Modern Alpine Aptitude and Special Forces probation style classification techniques. The international teams will comprise pre-selected expert
mountaineers, climbers and endurance athletes from their respective countries. They will join Soul of Steel - Himalayan in May 2023 and acclimatise, orient and train, in preparation for the final challenge in June 2023.
We aim to train prospective athletes who wish to compete in this ‘first of its kind’ international challenge. To hone their ability in a series of sub events leading up to the final mega event. Only the toughest will compete, few will survive, only the best will win.
Everyone will evolve.
The entire Soul of Steel event will be filmed and presented as a series aimed to inspire a global audience.
About CLAW
CLAW Global is a team of Indian Special Forces veterans, elite endurance athletes and multidisciplinary specialists. Team CLAW has designed a ‘High Altitude Survival and Endurance Program’ based on their own selection and training process within the Armed Forces. The
toughest, most valuable portions of their training have been adapted to execute a program that will train and test the limits of one’s being - The ‘Soul of Steel’.
