These parents would rather buy guns for their children rather than invest in some therapy or counseling for them. How insane and disturbing. Teachers who noticed something was wrong with his state of mind and behaviour did the right thing by reporting it. It's unfortunate that 4 people are murdered.

They should have asked, had he brought a gun to school or did he intend to bring a gun to school. They should have also asked, that his school bag and locker be searched.

@Potter Charles No, the school should be equipped with those things. Had that been the case here there is a good probability this doesn't happen.
The schools need to be as hardened as prisons. I'm sure companies would love the federal contracts to make this happen.

The disturbing images and words should've raised alarms, as in gong's and (1) parents/school administrators agree it's best to take him home / mental facility (2.) If above said adults agreed to keep him at school, resource officer should've been notified and had his backpack checked. What more did this kid have to prove whatever turmoil he held was tormenting him. Did he nee to write the 'Help me' in his own blood? Then have it delivered to both the school and his parents via pigeon carrier to be taken seriously? That would be kinda official, right? The crime here is overlooking the root causes for these shootings. this kid wasn't born a murderer he was made a murderer. i will bet you your pension, this kid was bullied, he's on psychotropic medications and the school staff ignored all the signs that this kid was about to pop and did nothing to prevent it or this incident.

At one point my oldest was going through some emotional stuff and was depressed and angry alot due mostly from bullying due to he is autistic. At that time I removed all guns from my house and stored them at my brother's just for added peace of mind.

Hey Ross, I'm with you when it comes to confronting religious dingbats and do it all the time.
While I strongly support the Constitution and it's 1st amendment right to freedom of religion, I also believe it's important to provide counterpoint to such superstitious nonsense.
Especially with the understanding that religious belief is relative to belief in ridiculous conspiracy "theories" without evidence, based on "faith", and the effects those beliefs have had on our nation.
However, this may not be the topic for engaging in religious debate.
Personally, I and it seems you, don't need an imaginary friend for emotional support, but clearly there are some who do and still others who have been intellectually subjugated to figments of imagination as the victims of the psychological child abuse of childhood religious indoctrination.
This recent tragedy deserves our thoughts and compassion for the grieving loved ones of these 4 young people.
Also, giving thought to how we can work toward stopping such tragedies from happening.
I'm a supporter of the 2nd amendment, but within reason and support stiffer background checks and think they should include evaluation of mental health records by the issuing agency, as well as properly funding our nations mental health system, which has been gutted so that corporations and the wealthy can receive tax breaks.
This new law of holding the parents responsible is excellent and will hopefully catch on nationally and help deter future shooters by extending the personal consequences beyond the individual, as well as motivation to be more responsible parents.
I'm not sure if it would have worked in this case, as the parents seem to be total POS human beings.
Life is precious, short and fleeting.

What can a teacher do when she reports a student's misconduct, and Admin either doesn't pull the student or sends the child right back into the class? Teachers need to have more autonomy than they have because they certainly get blamed for what some of their students do. The teacher didn't fail in this situation but may become a scapegoat as I've already seen in at least one comment saying the teacher should have taken the drawing. The teacher REPORTED it! Taking the drawing wouldn't have stopped this tragedy. Reporting it as the teacher did should have stopped it. However, those in power sided with the parents and sent the student back to class. Lay the blame where it should be - it's not the teacher's fault.

Teachers and school officials have a law enforced ‘duty to warn’, I’m stunned that they let him back in a classroom…I’m also stunned that his parents could be so unbelievably pathetic to not only not take him home, not secure the firearm, text him ‘just make sure you don’t get caught’, and now they are on the run, and their very disturbed 15yo is facing life in prison…hmm…wonder why this kid turned out why he did? I hope they throw the book at those parents, and I disagree that its a difficult case to make, at least against the mother (although both parents are both responsible for securing a deadly firearm) but her texts…she’s hung her self by her own petard, as my Dad would say. The school has some serious questions to answer as to why they did not send him home, they could have said, we’re suspending him for a week until we know he’s in counseling, or called 911 to have him taken for a psych eval at a hospital if the parent’s refused to take him, which they did…now they’re on the run…where they live, its about 45 min to Canada, or a real long drive to Mexico…if they have passports, Canada hadn’t heard about it yet…they could be sipping Margaritas in Central America or somewhere that doesn’t extradite. I would not be in the least bit surprised…and they’ll let their son rot (I’m not disputing he should pay for his crimes, but also have a thorough psychological evaluation also) and disregard all of the suffering parents, family and friends, and every student at that school. Disgusting.

The problem with school officials and parents was that spoiled kids find ways to get their parents to sue schools or individuals. Because they made them feel sad or took their things away when some kids DO NEED DISCIPLINE so schools I believe fear getting sued or cited. Very sad this is how it is now and forcing to take your kid home could cause trouble so they let him stay.
