Hi am a person from saipan!! Tho i havent watched the full video am happy you went there! if you even come back there again i have some areas to go to :)
Don't feel too bad. There are very few people from the US that have been taught about Saipan and its importance during WWII. Out of more than 1000 people I asked, ONE knew about Saipan and the CNMI. That was my grandfather. A Cold War Combat Vet. He spent most of his 9 years in the Pacific. Now I'm a photographer working with my gramps and living on Saipan. . Yes. It's very expensive to live here. But then again, I NEVER have to SHOVEL SNOW! It's cool you got to see some of the sites and visit a few places. Hopefully your one month vacay was optimal in the long run and hope to see more videos like this one. Couple of tips though. As far as audio, if you have a preamp for your mics, turn the gain up a bit more (5-8%). Also, the background music should remain in the background. It should never drown out the speaker. The music overpowered the speaker throughout most of the vid. When adding music, test its decibel levels and set your music to 15-20% LOWER than the speaker's voice. . Hopefully. we'll see you on a return visit. Stay safe and Happy Travels.
Hi Alexa, thanks for watching and commenting. Hopefully more people learn about Saipan and also get a chance to visit. It's remote but worth the effort to get there!❤️ You're fortunate to be able to live there with your grandfather. We did get to see quite a lot over the course of our month and learn more about Saipan's history - check out our other videos in this series if you'd like to see.😊 And thanks for your tips, we're constantly trying to improve the quality of our videos! Would love to make a return visit to your beautiful island in the future 💞
Heya, I'm from here! Glad you liked it here despite the rough start, although it sucks that you couldn't visit the Japanese WWII memorials, unless I missed something :/ Anyhow, it's so cool seeing the CNMI getting acknowledged out here! Si Yuus Ma'asi!! -Jesus
Hey! Hafa adai! Thanks so much for watching & commenting! We did get to visit the Last Japanese Command Post, Banzai and Suicide Cliffs later in our trip, we made another video about that!😁
Funny part about the Korean "landlord" is that only people of Northern Mariana Island descent can own land in the CNMI. Ethnic Koreans can't own land, they can only do 55 year leases. It's the only place on US soil where Chinese citizens can visit without a visa. There used to be a 45-day visa-free entry for Chinese citizens, so at one point more babies were born to Chinese mothers than to Saipan locals. The largest casino fine ever issued in the US was issued in the CNMI. A shadowy Chinese billionaire family was actually running yachts filled with cash from Saipan to the Philippines less than 10 years ago. It's a crazy place with lots of boom and bust history.
Ah, interesting about land ownership. Maybe should've said "Our Korean host" then... Yeah we did visit the unfinished casino & heard a bit about the story of what happened. Saipan does have a fascinating and turbulent history for such a tiny place! Thanks for watching 😁
Wish I would have met you guys when you were here. You would have loved my fruit farm on the back side of the island. been trying to find people like you for roomy situation, 250 a month rent, 100$ bills. Beaches are 2 miles away. Im an artist living alone on my fruit farm, if you guys ever wanna do saipan right, this is the good side. the other side is painful. This side is paradise. I could easily show you guys all the hidden discounts of living here, you paid 5x more than you should have to stay for a month.
Aw sounds nice. Yeah, guess we didn't really know what to expect before arriving, but we realised once we got there that we could've paid alot less for rent. If we ever get the chance to come back, we'll know who to contact! Thanks!😊
My daughter had to stop swimming competitively due to chronic ear infections… she even opted out of swimming in college for this reason. The physiology never matured as usually expected post childhood :(
So sorry to hear that 😢 It's ashame when illness stops you doing something you love. Recently watched "Young Woman and the Sea" about Trude Ederle, the first woman to swim the English channel (and she bet the men's record!) but she'd had measles in childhood which affected her ears, she was told she shouldn't swim but did it anyway.🏊🏼♂️ She eventually went deaf by her early 40s, but became a swimming instructor for deaf children. Inspirational woman 😊 Hope your daughter is doing well now.🙏 Thanks for watching!
@@thelifeofreillytravels she is. She and my son return often to our special island, Nevis to St. Kitts and compete in the interisland swims almost annually. They came in 3rd, 4th two years ago.
Im thinking of moving to Saipan, i live in Florida and i want to know if its as lonely and boring as it looks? Recently i been calling saipan a big graveyard 🪦 seems like everything there revolves around death? Im not sure how you ended up there? I heard theres no money circulating because the forieners that live there are working and sending the money back to where they came from so theres a big hole in the economy...canyou give someFeed back pls?
It does feel quite isolated, being such a small, remote island. It's a much slower, more relaxed pace of life. There is a lot of morbid history on the island, which we'll go into more in a future video, but there's a lot of life too, feels very international with many nationalities and cultures - many Filipinos, Koreans, Chinese, Japanese, people from other Micronesian islands, lots from mainland US, and even a few Europeans! We did see a lot of abandoned or unfinished buildings, like hotels and malls, which is ashame, the economy hasn't really recovered from the super typhoon quickly followed by the COVID pandemic and could do with a fresh injection of tourism. We loved the people, so friendly and helpful. Not sure if we could live there permanently, as we love travelling and visiting new places so much, but it was definitely an enriching experience to spend a month there and we'd consider going back for a longer period.😊
I’m really glad you asked that question because to me the whole appeal of a place like Saipan is the calmness I am looking to get away from it all ! It seems like if you just couldn’t get along without night life and glamour you could just zip over to Asia and party like a Rock Star
Economy-wise, I’d say you’re right about people sending money out, but we’re mostly struggling due to poor decisions by certain officials and the lack of tourism. Tourism is supposed to be our main source of income, but it still hasn’t picked up since COVID. It’s a pretty okay place for a vacay - our beach sunsets are beautiful, even as a local I’ll never get tired of them. But if you’re okay with a small hiding hole of an island with slow/chill vibes, lack of a flashy nightlife (I think our only “real club” just closed again recently), lack of big industries (no malls - DFS is aimed specifically for tourists interested in brand items), unpredictable power or water outages (they’re working on it and water tanks are a blessing) speed limits between 15mph to 45mph (but really, what is a speed limit on an empty strip of road?), and the occasional typhoon (we literally have a season dedicated to them, sorry to say), it’s not TOO bad living here. Of course, I can say that since I’ve been living here all my life and have learned to deal with all that. 😂 I actually had some relatives who lived in Florida for a long while and later moved here for a short time to run away from the raising prices during COVID, but they were originally from another Micronesian island so they adapted back to the island life well. My younger cousins did say it was boring here though, so they ended up being the life of the party wherever we went. 🤣 Also, may I ask what exactly you’ve heard that made it seem everything here revolves around death? I’m curious as to whether you were referring to the economy or certain beliefs we have.
If you like simple living, Saipan is for you. We’re not a graveyard community. Almost no crime community. 50k population. Florida-like weather. No pollution, no traffic. Living here for 30 years and no complaints and I’m from the Philippines. Life is good here. And we have no snakes here😂
Thanks for your feedback. Started using a new feature in our editing software which automatically ducks the music when there's dialogue, but it probably needs a bit of manual tweaking! 😉

Yeah, it's nice there. Good for running. We went back up for sunset, since we missed it that day, you'll see in the next video 😂

The Chinese do pregnancy tours to Guam to have their babies, then fly back and now, they have an “American” baby.
It's a land lease.
Chamorro leased the land to the Korean for up to 40 years.
Korean runs B and B, see?

Wow I am amazed how many people never heard of Saipian and America Samoa even Palau
Yeah it's ashame more people don't know about these beautiful islands. Thanks for watching our video.😊
We Americans pay high prices for health insurance and still pay high prices for hospital, doctor visits, and medicine.
It's hard for us to believe how much Americans have to pay for health care! 😲
❤❤❤
Great video! How much does a place like that cost for the month? Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks for watching and your kind comment. It cost us $1700 US for the month, found thru Booking.com - Karis Pool Villas.😊
How to have friends here in Saipan 😢
Ive been looking too, theres's no one here lol
Do protective ear plugs work when swimming? I bought some years ago but never used them. I think they were made of wax. Hope you are better soon.
Yes, they do! I actually got some ear plugs made of wax and now I always use them for swimming.👍🏼 Thanks for watching 😊
