Title: "Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace"ep48-2
The road to becoming an empress is paved with treachery. Ruyi (Zhou Xun) is a consort who quickly learns to navigate the treacherous politics of the the royal court and move up the ranks. After becoming Empress, Ruyi still must survive the many conspiracies against her. Her relationship with Emperor Qianlong (Wallace Huo) becomes eroded even when Ruyi is able to overcome the challenges. Can Ruyi maintain her role as Empress under such difficult circumstances? “Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace” is a 2018 Chinese drama series directed by Wang Jun. It is adapted from the novel Hou Gong Ru Yi Zhuan by Liu Lianzi and is a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2011 television drama “Empresses in the Palace.”
Cast:
Zhou Xun
Huo Jianhua
Zhang Junmi
Dong Jie
Xin Zhilei
Consort Jia’s actress is literally so amazing- she can play the witty, sweet type in other dramas, and can play the coy, cunning, evil type in this drama, and is completely convincing in both.
I love when a person acting is so great..I either hate them or love them depending on the character they play.
@@YelloLibra83 , OR they made you like AND hate the character at the same time.
The casting management is great to pick an actress with Korean airy to play this role. Her chubby face is sweet, making us difficult to hate her.
I Believe That Is What They Call Fine Acting.
У неё отталкивающая внешность.
“ Bitch ignored me and broke my servant's leg,I retaliated against her fiercely in front of everyone”😂😂😂😂whose writing these titles 😆 I love it
I like how after Jia kneeled to thank Ruyi for restoring her title, Ruyi had a little sidebar conversation with Noble Consort Chun before telling Jia she could get up lol.
Notice how at the beginning of the clip, Consort Jia was the last person standing up for the Empress, the last person to kneel/bow and the last person to rise back up. She was petulant and arrogant from the get go.
And let’s not forget wearing red in her presence
@@JustLikeAFlower Yes, only the legal wife can wear that shade of red
@BlackVenus Yeah, except greeting the Empress isn't a holiday but a thing the concubines did every day. This was the first time the concubines greeted Ruyi as empress, but that doesn't change the fact that Jia was doing a daily thing, which was why wearing that color was disrespectful to Ruyi.
Wearing red to the empresses coronation is like wearing a white dress to a wedding when you’re not the bride. Yes the earring scene was painful but she could have done worse.
@BlackVenus , of course we all know Jia did that on purpose. She was so arrogant that she dared to make snide remarks about Ruyi being the second Empress and thought she would not be called out for it.
yall be watching rap battles while I'm here watched ancient Chinese empresses roast each other... we are not the same
Nahh empress and consort learning her place
Yeah the imperial "rap battles" are very intense. FYI there's only one empress (one wife) for one emperor. The rest are all imperial concubines who are basically servants of the empress and emperor. They serve and bear children for the emperor, but are not the emperor's wives.
That's why even in this clip, Consort Jia can be punished right away for being disrespectful towards the empress - her female master.
And then there's people like me who enjoy watching both!
Relatable
Watch them roast each other
I know Ruyi is not the type of empress who desires power nor want to put harms on others within the palace but I love her in this episode as she truly taught Concubine Jia her evil ways. I can’t believe concubine Jia has balls to talk back to the Empress with such disrespect. Good she was taught a painful lesson so she remembers
Apparently the first Empress let Jia get away a lot as they were co-conspirators. Jia is totally unaccustomed to actually be respectful to anyone except for the Emperor.
One of my favorite scenes in Ruyi, she knew her worth and stood her ground and wasn't going to let Jia disrespect her, and got revenge for her maid. So proud of Ruyi!
But why “reward” with more power salaries benefits .. pain in earring it’s meat and some cartilage will go away a few weeks.. but Suoxin legs won’t heal unless miracle.
@@kateli1880 they lose and gain on a whim. She is a foreign concubine and has birthed sons. It’s to show she is playing nice for the sake of the lot of them. The whole set up is goofy. Sad to say servants are expendable. Heck most of them are expendable. Having dozens or wives and kids is like having less than one.
@@kateli1880 I think that's the point honestly. No amount of revenge or justice will make Suoxin's leg better. But she can watch Jia Pin have her just desserts 😈
@@kateli1880 Ruyi rewarded Jia with her former position so when she complained to the Emperor of Rongpei injuring her when she inserted the hooks for the carnelian earrings she wouldn't have a leg to stand on. He knows her servant was involved with the carnelian vs red agate beads in the bracelet and suspects Jia was involved in some way which is why he gifted her a carnelian hair decoration. He'd be mad at her for complaining about receiving carnelian earrings when she had been gifted her higher position back by the Empress.
@@kateli1880 She rewarded her by reinstating her position to show her that she is the head of the household and makes the decisions. Jia Guifei was treating her as if she was still another concubine she could manipulate. By promoting her, she forced her to have to bow and show respect to her as Empress, and be grateful for her bestowing wealth upon her as her master.
Probably my favourite scene I've watched. After everything Jia has done, the layered & subtle, but clear punishment was the perfect way for Ruyi to establish herself as Empress and give a clear message to the entire harem about the consequences they'll face in future for their actions.
Yes, the first Empress was weak and a pushover. She laid down the laws of no jealousy and scheming but was unable to enforce them, and worst yet, manipulated by the harem. Here, Ruyi do not hesitate to lay the smack down and show them all that she wasn’t stupid.
@BlackVenus Xioxian was quite the hypocrite...giving those birth control bracelets to Ruyi and the other consort....and pretending to her ally all this time.
The harem faction of the previous Empress, Jia and Xiyue and those like Arou who was recruited into their circle, was not based on any foundation of loyalty. Each was secretly and willingly betray the other and hang the other out to dry. In the end, it rightfully self destructed, with Jia being the last one standing here. The other consorts and concubines knew Ruyi would be fair and righteous and gladly sided with her.
I love that the first thing Ruyi did after becoming Empress was to avenge Suoxin. Also Rongpei is amazing in this
I think Rongpei is my favorite servant here. She's loyal through thick and thin and is willing to put her life on the line for Ruyi. Heck, she even will stand up for anyone close to Ruyi is insulted by someone else. That kind of loyalty I admire :D
subtle, but to the point. 'This is just a warning, a lesson. I won't give you a second chance"
I know a lot of people are disappointed that all she got was a poke in the ear but you have to understand the humiliation that she just received.
Plus, the Empress can only do so much to Jia. They never had evidence that she is the one who tried to frame the Empress, because Jia's maid took the fall for her.
JIA GOT DRESSED DOWN. Now the harem can't respect her.... Ever again. Nor can the people who feared her fear her again. She ain't shit now.
@@IEXECUTIVE , yes, it is now a liability to be allied with her. Jia have no allies in the harem....as her past allies are all dead...indirectly or directly through her own machinations.
@@stacys8729 *Jia let her maid take the fall for her.
I don't think Jia instructed Zhenshu to take the fall; Zhenshu just did it out of loyalty and Jia didn't contest her account.
and even if its just a poke in the ear, it still hurts like a bitch, especially since she hesitated. my friend started gauging her ears and for fun i tried the smallest/2nd smallest size (only a lil thicker than a normal earring post) and at about halfway it started to sting pretty bad. even if its not super violent or gruesome, it wasnt something she wanted, it was painful, and she got humiliated to hell and back ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s weird to see all the higher up imperial harem being nice to an empress. All protecting her from the favored concubine, it really speaks about the vast imperial harem dramas, full of jealousy, death and hatred.
Because it's to take down someone they don't like if they all gather together plus back the empress who is already tired of her schemes it's easier for them to take them down than by themselves individually
@@Introvertsan , at this point, being friends with Jia have become a liability. Nobody would want to be associated with her or seen as on "her side".
Terrible castigo. Pero lo merecía.
in this scene other than the obvious scene of consort Jia getting what she deserves we should analyze Ruyi's small movements as well. In the beginning of the scene you can clearly tell that she is not quite comfortable in the seat of the empress. She offers the presents for Yongrong to consort Chun and almost looking for support from one of her closest friends/allies in the harem. The silent moment of Ruyi smiling and almost thinking she can and belongs in the seat. Then the little pearl thing in her hands. You can kind of see her play with it a little and only stops when consort Jia has received her punishment and in that moment she hides the little thing in her hand and almost sits up like the real empress. I find the scene so meticulously done that it is one of my favorite scenes in the whole drama. anyway this is my opinion so don't bash me please lol
I like that interpretation. I've always thought of it on a smaller scale of anxiety and nervousness surrounding the idea "I plan to execute this plan, but I'm not sure how Noble Consort Jia will take it and if I'll be able to handle it well enough," followed by calm when it does go according to plan.
No bashing needed, I agree
@BlackVenus I'm pretty sure Ruyi has the 7 bead Buddhist bracelet in her hands that Consort Jia used to frame her.
@BlackVenus I had hoped she was holding the 7 Bead Pearl Buddhist bracelet to remind herself of what Consort Jia had done to her and the devoted Suoxin.
She finally was in position to retaliate for Suoxin.
@BlackVenus I'm not here to argue. Have a nice day.
Imperial Concubine Jia continues to compare Empress Ruyi to Empress Xiaoxian, it really shows how secretive the palace is. Because technically Ruyi was supposed to be the first empress if it hadn't been for the interference of the Emperor's mother. father, and empresses aunt.
I love Jia’s face expressions. It’s as if she’s surprised and can’t believe it: Ruyi is now the Empress and she’s her subordinate. Although Jia has ranked below Ruyi for a long time, Ruyi was still a concubine and there was not much of a difference in status between them. Now, things are different and she can’t believe it. Ruyi is at the top, her status is that of a wife, and is the boss. Jia is only a higher-ranked concubine and now can’t scheme against Ruyi or make her fall easily. Even the way Ruyi talks to her is different than when she was a higher-ranked concubine
She tortured Shuo Xin till all wounded and legs broken, and she only got poked in the ear loops
It's more of humiliation in front of the while harem
Yeah but it was done to her with the cheapest crap earrings imaginable put in by a servant in front of the whole Imperial Harem, and she got roundly scolded by that same servant, still in front of everything. You were nothing if even a servant could rip you a new one like that. The goal was to humiliate her and force her to understand that she was not in charge any more.
That's her ear *lobes*.
True - mentioning the type of stones did make it clear to everyone the Empress knows that Jia is really the one that tried to frame her, even if she can't prove it. Though also it makes sense, to get this much wealth they subjudicated the masses, so a maid has much less rights.
@@justinmileman7863 and thats not enough for what she has done
The rest of them knew exactly what jai pulled on ruyi , they all had that look of "thats what you get."
I just loved how they all just sat there like, "Best punishment ever."
@@CocoCece08 yes, at 12:23, one of the consorts looked uncomfortable watching Jia winced in pain, but other one looked on with absolute pleasure.
Seeing Ruyi in her full power saying “I’m the Empress..” EVERYTHING 🙏❤️🙏
The actress for Jia is exceptional. Every expression, every eye movement is so on point. 100%
Time for revenge, Ruyi is just cool as a cucumber, and Rong pei is like a bulldog😂😂😂😂😂
Rong pei came to give us life esp with those slaps
The cinematography here is just stunning. The lighting and subtle changes convey the mood so thoroughly. I've watched this series multiple times and always notice something new. A brilliant work of art!
I'm amazed by the costumes. They all look so stunning, also the jewelry, porcelain tableware, the food, the palaces, everything looked so fancy. This show had a first class production, they did a great job.
The way this actress embodies the Empress leaves me shook every time. A force to be reckoned with had she been an Empress in those times.
The level of savagery is beyond 👌🏻 I will start incorporating this lethal conversation type in everyday life
She (Kim/Jia) brokes legs of ex empress attendant, and now she was pierced by carnelian earrings. However this kind of punishment still considered too light, severe punishment may given had the empress lost composure in an instant.
In Chinese, you should not wear lavish dress (bright red) upon your superior (act disrespectful) especially someone who just held grand ceremony.
Honestly, the punishment given was really far too light but it's cause Ruyi's magnanimous. Jin Yuyuan will get her rightful punishment in the end.
I loved this. It was like, "You break my girl's leg, I'm bout to break you."
What is carnelian earrings? Why does it make her ears bleed
@@jadewu111 Carnelian is a type of quartz gem. Agate and Carnelian are very similar in color and type and can be easily mistaken for one another. Ruyi used this as a form of punishment for Jin Yuyuan (Noble Consort Jia) because she tried to frame Ruyi and accuse her of having an affair with a monk by using those gems as evidence of "their token of affection" but of course, Ruyi (and her helpers) managed to expose her.
In this particular episode, Ruyi has already become Empress and she awarded Noble Consort Chun with Agate earrings (way more expensive than the Carnelian ones) to reward / appease her and to ensure that Noble Consort Jia knows her place and acts accordingly.
The earrings that were made for Noble Consort Jia purposely had thicker metal posts and would not ordinarily fit someone's ear. At first, she declined to wear it in front of everyone because it obviously won't fit so she made excuses. Therefore, when Rongpei forced it in, it made her ears bleed. It was just a minor punishment for her.
@@nandhithahari She has just ascended to her throne, a harsh punishment probably would not have been in her best interest and would not have taught Jia Guifei and everyone else a lesson as much as this did. Jia Guifei is the mother at this point of two princes, so she most likely would not have been harshly punished for just wearing the red gown. She was already punished for plotting the fake fake affair scheme and everyone knew about it, so she could no longer be penalized for it. By giving her these earrings (punishing her by not punishing her) she was able to make an example out of her in front of the entire harem, and put her in her place.
When Ruyi laid down the law on Jia as empress 👏👏👏
Does it hurt?, hahaha RUYI knews it hurt, its a warning for Consort Jia....DONT MESS WITH ME OR YOU'LL GET HURT...and Rong pei is brutal with her action and WORDS!, and i like her😍😍😍
Can u shut up
@@angel.6920 What's your problem
i loved 11:42 so much. though it was about putting on the earrings, it was crystal clear that it was about her behavior and actions. So amazing!
Now look at Ruyi! I admire how she gets angry with reasonable purpose, sweet to other concubines despite the rank, so well reserved, and like a detective with her allies. Not to mention she cares about everyone's mental health more than being queen. With Hailan, Chun, Rongpei, Sangbao, Ling Yunche, Shu, Ying, Ke, & other allies that didn't come to mind, Ruyi is UNSTOPPABLE!
I love the way Rui kept jia kneeling while she spoke to the other consort chun
The class and sass in this episode is the best! Just one of my favorites. The acting on this show is outstanding.
Rong pei is so badass. I love her
The costumes are phenomenal just beyond beautiful
Absolutely! Everything about this series is just so visually stunning 💕💕 The sets, props, costumes, every last detail is gorgeous. Even if the actual story & acting weren't great (it's amazing!),it would 100% be worth watching just to look at.
The acting in this show is the best I’ve seen in any Cdrama. Ruyi of course but even the side characters - look at Jia’s expression when Ruyi promotes her and her side eye before bowing.
如懿看惢心的時候好溫柔啊,真的像對待自己的妹妹❤️
所以让容嬷嬷去扎害妹妹的人
If jai just learned when to shut up, her problems wouldn't be half as bad.
Lol. Unfortunately in real life we have those type of people around too.
Jia didn't know when to quit where she was still a bit ahead. So many times she escaped REAL punishment she just kept on making trouble.
When you hate the character so much that you find pleasure in their discomfort, you know that the actor is doing their job well
I LOVE THIS SCENE. Jia gets her come uppins in this scene. Get her empress. Let her knows who's the boss in the palace.
Ruyi is a queen in all aspects ❤️ I love her
Except for the hooks, those earrings are actually really lovely!
This is even better when you know why Ruyi specifically chose carnelian for the earrings and how Jia immediately understood she was going to be punished as soon as she heard it!
Sorry can you please explain to me what was the significance of the carnelian earrings? I forgot why they were important and why everyone got shocked when she got presented them
@@mina763 Sure! While Ruyi was still Imperial Noble Consort, but there were rumors that she was going to be Empress, a Grand Master (important figure in Buddhism) visited the palace, and he happened to be young and attractive. He and Ruyi talked a lot (I think First Prince had just died, Ruyi's adoptive son, hence Ruyi was praying more than usual). Jia and her maid, Zhenshu, decided to frame Ruyi as though she was having an affair with the Grand Master. For this, they falsified a love letter, and "discovered" the Grand Master's "Seven Treasures" bracelet (seven precious gems) and the letter in Ruyi's possession. One of these seven gems was red agate. Someone (I don't remember who, but I think it was Ling Yunche or Physician Jiang Yubin) knew it was all a lie, and swapped the bracelet with one that had a red carnelian bead instead, since they are very similar, once Suoxin had been taken in to be interrogated (she's the one who hands the boxes to Rongpei and has tears of hatred in her eyes looking at Jia; because she would not betray Ruyi, they ruined her legs and she now has a permanent limp). Li Yu also found papers in which Zhenshu had been practicing Ruyi's handwriting. Because it was not the real bracelet, he tested Zhenshu pretending to reward her with "red agate", and she couldn't tell it was carnelian, so it all came out. Zhenshu was sent back home in disgrace (the subtitles say "Uncle Shu" mistakenly) and Jia was demoted several ranks and locked in her palace. Hence why Consort Ling says that in her banner (her region) "even a commoner knows the difference between red agate and carnelian", mocking Zhenshu's fatal mistake, and why Ruyi says Jia thinks that "carnelian is so precious one can use it to reach the sky in a single bound" meaning Jia planned to be Empress by getting rid of Ruyi.
Everyone knew about the fake bracelet because Ruyi's name was cleared. Hence, when she gave Consort Chun, who is loyal, red agate beads, and Jia carnelian, everyone knew she was being punished, without Ruyi saying a word about it. Ruyi really is very clever and thought this out well!
@@RavenSutcliffe ,wow, given how Jia was demoted and the plot was revealed, she still had the audacity to be snarky to Ruyi.
@@PungiFungi She's going to keep running her mouth and ruin herself like that. She was much smarter when Xiaoxian was empress. Like when she started bragging about the lucky numbers of her sons!
I love this drama and I appreciate that it's possible to be able to know what everyone is saying by putting the English words up to follow along. Thank you
Why is this so satisfying to watch?
This was such a good story. I felt so sorry for the empress. She would have been so much better off staying away from the crazy politics.

I love Ruyi and Rongpei in this scene. I love this series!❤️💜
In the real world, when you treat someone with kindness, most of them will take advantage of it by using you, manipulating you with sweet words or words that you want to hear, etc. In this show, despite Ruyi being nice (not wanting to cause trouble), she's been betrayed, framed, poisoned, almost burned to death, spied on by her enemies, accused of adultery with the innocent people they framed, and more. I agree with Hailan who states that you need to be firm, or else people will not take you seriously in the same way Jia behaved towards Ruyi.
My favorite scene ever!!!
容佩太厲害了👍🏼👏🏼!
It was common for the empress to raise the rank of a concubine however to lower a rank must be also discussed with the emperor
The imperial noble consort is the 2nd highest ranking in the harm thsts after the empress and can only be given by the emperor and was rarely given, even though the rank may be common when looming at history text it was given to a concubine who the emperor though may die and giving her this rank may show to heaven how important she is to him and not to take her.
In most harems though out china history there were only 2 noble consorts, 4 consorts, 6 imperial consorts and an unlimited amount of ladies under them.
Also the emperor couldn't elevate a lady from the lowest rank, attendant to consort without unless she did something significant or was discussed with the empress and council as the balance in the harem was just as important
This is always my favorite scene to watch over and over again lol
Wow! I understand this sooo much better now. First video i saw of this series, and then i started watching more. I now realize the meaning. She mentions the type of stone because Jia tried to fram the empress as having an affair (before she was empress) but used the wrong stone in the beads she used to frame her. Empress maid was toruted and her leg was even broken during investigation (encouraged by Jia) First time watching i didn't know why Jia was a witch or why the Empress mentioned the type of stones in the earings, makes so much more sense now. :)
Wait, was that the real Seven Treasure Beads in Ruyi hands? 😳😶😆🤣❤️👏👍🏼
10:16 you can see that by RuYi’s expression, he said “Bingo!”. She just discovered what hurts Jia the most: her clan’s leader

I love these drama's the social interplay is riveting: Much better than East Enders or Corry :)
I wondered if there was any special significance to the fact that the earrings were made of carnelian stone. It turns out there was!! The Chinese word for agate (carnelian) is _'ma nao',_ which basically translates as HORSE BRAIN. The Empress was calling her both a moron AND a nag!! 😂😂😂
Yes, phonetically, it sounds like horse brain. Which is why sometimes translations from one language to another often do not convey all the subtleties because often word plays do not translate well. "Tombe dans les pommes" means to pass out in French, which literally means to "fall into apples" so I am sure there will be a lot of apple jokes thrown at people fainting. But how do you translate that into another language?
嘉妃說甚麼皇后為何不住坤寧宮,目的是抬扛,但卻顯得無知,以她在清室的年日,難道不知坤寧宮已早不是皇后的居所,富察皇后也只是住在長春宮。

I mean a good servant scene shoulda been like Fight Club: Souxin takes a knife to Consort Jia's throat and says: "We cook your meals, we haul your trash, we connect your calls, we drive your ambulances. We guard you while you sleep. Do not...F$*K with us!!" Of course the calls and ambulance don't apply 4 the time period!!

Of all the villains in the three dramas of this reign that I've seen, This consort Jia is by far the most talented at being despicable!!!
She deserved all she got for being cruel and especially for harming Suoxin, who has been the sweetest, most innocent actress i've ever seen!
