Thank you for being charismatics that are balanced in Word and Spirit. To many of us charismatics fall prey to just seeking the extraordinary and we forget the goodness of just being with Him in His word.
I really love that language of ordinary means and extraordinary means of grace. Here in Kenya particularly, we have that problem where people want to turn extraordinary means of grace into ordinary and they are not. Thank you for this
Yes, trying to force exceptional moments into regular occurrences. There was a church I left (Australia) which was always chasing spiritual highs with various questionable practices.
That was fantastic. This certainly helps bring balance to the modern charismatic world. Walking in the Spirit is far more about living godly in the mundane than about supernatural experiences and encounters, though those should indeed have their place. But what is our emphasis? Great job guys. Was blessed hearing your show as usual...
33:37 love this point. Reminds me of something I heard Jordan Peterson say about marital relationships where you should make the small, everyday, mundane things pristine because that’s 99% of your life with your spouse. If you do that, it makes the extraordinary 1% even more so. I think the same is true of our relationship with the Father. How much more can we rejoice with Him when He does something extraordinary after we’ve been walking side by side and being faithful in the ordinary. Great word. Just a side note, I would not consider myself part of the charismatic camp but I love the work that you guys do and I’ve learned so much from the interview and discussions you have on your channel. Keep up the good work and I pray God blesses all three of you, your families, and your ministry.
When I said I want more of THE HOLY SPIRIT was merely I want GOD, TO REVEAL MORE OF HIS HEAVENLY MIRACLES, WONDERS, SIGNS, HEALING, DREAMS, VISIONS. Though I know it is HIS WILL TO WHOM HE CHOSE TO REVEAL. I am OBEDIENT.
Last thing im listening to as I am going into labor lol 😅 What you guys said about living with Jesus in the ordinary means as a regular part of life is normal. Yet there are still extraordinary moments with the Spirit was soooooo on point and helpful for me as I enter motherhood. Thanks guys! 🎉
The thought regarding grave soaking passed through my mind too Michael. I’m in agreement with what you guys are teaching. The crazy messy inadvertently shows up. There’s a real devil. Thanks for this insightful conversation I’ve served God over 50 years this teaching is rich and so refreshing. Thanks to you wonderful teachers. God bless you.
Great thoughts for us to share when we're sharing with Cessationists. I've often said I love the B word--Balance. They need to know we advocate balance.
I've always thought the closer of a relationship we have with God, the more Holy Spirit we recognize. Ie : I hear the still small voice or "know" things the more I'm reading the word and praying about everything. Even the Bible says - Matthew 6:33 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Good point Josh 33:34 - I find myself in this situation at my home church - the desire for manifestations is escalating and the foundational things of God are being neglected. People are not fed with meat when they are trained to come to church to RECEIVE manifestations from the pastor at each service. Love my church - love my pastor - but it’s a subtle divergence that seems to snowball into a kind of - idolatry- (dare i say) thank you for bringing us into balance
We RECEIVE GRACE THROUGH OUR OBEDIENCE...OBEYING means HIS 10 WORDS WRITTEN BY HIS OWN HAND, which stands forever. As HE confirmed to me with an audible voice in a dream, also showing me it is written and then afterwards, guiding me to the exact words in scripture. I did not know that sentence was there. Exodus 34:28
I agree with "Infinitely Present". This is actually different than Omnipresent. The same way I think saying that God is Infinitely Powerful is more accurate than Omnipowerful or All Powerful etc.
Hey Remnant fam! Amazing video and explanation about getting more of the spirit, it truly blessed me! I have a question about communion! What are your guys take on taking communion individually i.e when you’re spending time in prayer and reading the word by yourself and take up the bread and wine? I do it all the time whenever I have access to communion elements, but I don’t see nothing wrong in doing so! I also believe in taking communion amongst believers and in fellowship and the Lord presence being present in that as well. But I want to hear your guys thoughts!
lol - my wife says when I sing to her, it sounds like a baby seal being clubbed! Oh, and the "Ring of Fire" song is related to my wedding band in our marriage. It will BURN me if I try to remove it. For I am so committed to her. lolove u guys!
Thoughtful discussion. Thanks. I agree with Miller. Need a third category. How about: ordinary, remarkable, and extraordinary. Remarkable would include the charismatic spiritual gifts of 1 Cor 12:8-10 along with dreams, visions, audible voice, and unanimous agreement among a group of believers seeking the Lord. This category would be grouped along the lines of examples in Scripture, exciting wonder & awe, and glorifying Christ. As a diagram, I'd draw two overlapping circles with "remarkable means" in the middle. Make sense? Maybe someone could improve upon this more.
Love This Episode! Ordinary is Quite Extraordinary if you recall who you'd be and where you'd be if you had no access to God as a member of The Family of God.
2Kn 2:9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.”
If ever my husband attempted to sing over me, I'd get down on my knees in front of him and pray for the will of God to take over me so as to not laugh! Vom is the best word to describe it! 😅
I want to pray for Michael Rowntree’s left shoulder..Father God, in the Name of Jesus, I pray healing over Rowntree . I pray that You would touch his shoulder. Repair the rotator cuff, bring down any swelling, give him complete relief of pain and restore full mobility. God, we thank You for Your healing power that flows into Your servant even now. In Jesus Name! Let it be so!
I do think we need to look at the scriptures through the lens of context of the epistles and the Old Testament. Not to cherry pick to suit ourselves, but it would be unwise to apply it all to life today. Yes, the Scriptures are the inspired Word of God and consider it as such. If we don't, then women should cover their heads and not teach... any thoughts?
More? Is not a thing, the Spirit is a person, is God.. not something but the life-giving Spirit !! Who is our helper and glorify Christ, not humans.. blessings.!!
What is your view of invoking the Holy Spirit, such as asking Him to fill this place/us/me? I fully agree that we can receive special filling, but I can't find a New Testament reference for actually invoking/requesting it, and (thus far in my searching) only the initial dedication of Solomon's temple that comes close. Are we being too presumptuous or self-centered to expect that we can call down His manifest presence, or should we, like the homeless man going to the soup kitchen, humbly present ourselves in trusting anticipation with the focus being first and foremost on exalting and glorifying God?
This year, the full Remnant team will only be together at the Remnant Conference in Houston, TX. Michael Miller has a significant travel schedule, and you can find his itinerary here: www.thomasministries.org/events
Question. I'm a missionary working with unreached indigenous tribes in the Amazon. Why don't we see more "extraordinary" workings of the Holy Spirit in our ministry. I'm NOT a cessasionist. I'm a "Bible nerd", loving everything theology and church history. The indigenous people here are multilingual. I would love to speak in tongues to share the gospel, but until now God has not endowed me with that ability. If anywhere God were to use tongues would it not be here? Though I preach the gospel [trade language] it is clear the people are apathetic to respond. I ask God for his supernatural intervention, but so far we have not seen any healings or other radical encounters with the Holy Spirit. I personally have had many awesome experiences in the Spirit, but ministry wise He has yet to manifest in the extraordinary ways you all describe.
We don't have a doc readily available, I'm afraid. If you go to the show description and select "More", you'll see an option to see the transcript. It will appear in the top right corner. Hope this helps. Blessings!
Yes, it's really a question about evaluating the motivations of your heart. Can you seek Him in the quiet, too? Experiencing emotion while seeking the Lord is good, but seeking emotionalism is not. It's important to make sure your emotion is authentic and rooted in God, and not just because the sound booth turned up the volume on the worship song.
It's weird how everytime they mention someone who pursue extraordinary miracles they always say that person doesn't read the bible. Yet Paul was one of those people who wrote the Bible. People who lack spiritual experiences seem to fall back on reasoning instead of letting the door open to unlimited possibilities that God can do anything
You speak about charismatics in a way that you tell the charismatics not to speak about the Cessationists. Yes I understand you don't want categoried with extremes, but you are doing a similar thing and it will have a similar effect on your listeners and yourself. Just a thought
Tell me, what do I teach charismatics not to speak about cessationist? I recall telling them things like "cessationist are brothers and sisters in Christ" and things like "Cessationist will be in heaven with us"... Pretty sure that I apply that both ways. I don't think charismatics are going to hell, I am one....
quoting: "... probably the same way a progressive church is not able to access the means of grace of communion, even though they're taking bread and wine, but they've been rejected by God, he refuses to administer his spirit in that context" WTF dude, probably one of the most unhinged and arrogant takes I've heard here.
I'm wondering if you actually watched the show, because we spend the majority of the episode discussing the ordinary means of grace like reading the Bible, praying, communion, worship. We talk about how you can daily position yourself to experience God and the Holy Spirit in ordained ways.
From about minute 32.22 to 34.11 needs to be clipped and played over and over in every space where believers can hear it. Thank you, Josh. So good.
Thank you for being charismatics that are balanced in Word and Spirit. To many of us charismatics fall prey to just seeking the extraordinary and we forget the goodness of just being with Him in His word.
