Guys, the Seaside Drive-in really brings back memories. When I first started coming to Okinawa in 1988, my flight would always arrive at 10:30 PM. My friends, who lived in Yomitan would pick me up and we would eat at Seaside drive in. Back then they had a beer vending machine in the front where you do the take out food. Thanks for the nice video!
Thanks so much for making these videos! We’ll be in Japan next month for the first time beginning with four nights in Okinawa. We’re getting so many ideas from your videos.
Youre not really a pancake connoisseur if you didn't name the exact pancake type in this video. Those in the video are from the "Silver Dollar Pancake" derived from the most southern states in the U.S.
Omg, you guys are killing me! I lived there for 15 yrs but I never went to or heard of any of those places you featured. I can't wait for October (Uchinanchu Taikai) when I visit to study/research our retirement home base. My husband loves HI but I am sure I can convince him to retire to OKA instead because the rest of my family lives there. Thank you for your yummy videos that make hubby excited about OKA!
I remember Sam’s Anchor Inn and the Kobe steak. That was in the early 70’s. My other favorite was The Stateside Restaurant in Namanoui. An excellent steak sandwich
I used to live down the street from the Seaside Drive-In when I lived there about a decade ago! I would go in at like 2 a.m. and meet some interesting characters. Such a cool place.
Thanks, guys, for another delicious video. I love that the Okinawan plate lunches have the characteristic Japanese small portions of many foods but with a fusion of Japanese and Western flavors and ingredients. So interesting! Even though I don't eat meat, those burgers from Jef made my mouth water. Yum! The shady park was such a nice respite from the sun, and the kitty made me smile. ♥♥
I have had a mushroom and cheese pasty with creamed potato and mashed sweed.i made the pasty I chopped and fried the mushrooms made pastry of SR flour.and butter.rolled out 2 rounds of pastry put mushrooms in then sliced cheese on top made into pastys.then served with creamed potatoes and mashed sweed.it was delicious.hope you try it. Sending love to you both ❤️❤️
Wow! You guys ate like Kings in Okinawa. Everything looked amazing! That steak had my mouth watering and those had to be the fluffiest pancakes I've ever seen but my favorite of them all and where I'll go first if I ever get to go there is Jef. Those A & B Lunch burgers looked so good.🍔😋
Oh wow ! Okinawa really knows how to make food look and taste so good 👍. Thanks for sharing these locations just a beautiful place to visit with excellent food outlets and history. 🤗💛👍
i enjoyed your meal at okinawa yes looks like hawaii beautiful hibiscus aww drive inns like hawaii ohhh clubhouse sandwich yummy how fun just like hawaii fast food okinawan style
Aaaaargh... I LOVE Okinawa, and not least the great food there. (there's great local foods most places around Japan, but Okinawa is just something special, something different you won't find elsewhere in Japan( Thanks for a great video. ^^
Okinawa feels like Angeles City in the Philippines in the 80s and 90s. Perhaps because of the US military bases. I used to enjoy diners similar to these in Angeles. I remember the Tacos from Didis Pizza and the fried chicken dinner at VFW. Great vlog Tabieats😍
Woooow, what an epic video! We only see you enjoying all this delicious looking food, but I am very much aware that there must be a lot of hard work behind it. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us!
I have just watch your vlog for the first time. And i love you soooo already. I like the good vibe i felt while watching. You two are the best tandem i ever seen. My (highschool)daughter is with me while watching and she is so having fun with you both. So amazing to see a Japanese speaking English in vlog showing the best in japan. We're here in japan for about 10years now. My kids even had a hard time speaking english in our daily conversation. Bravo to both of you guys. 😘😘😘
everything looked delicious. I wish I wasn't so sick the last two times I went back to Okinawa. thank you for sharing your enjoyment of the food and showing the beautiful drives.
Oh, thank goodness, I thought you were going to check them all out in 1 day 🤣We have been to Sea Side Drive-in but now need to try the Drive-In Restaurant Hawaii. The plate lunch looked amazing! Also haven't tried Jef - saving the video for our next trip. Jack's might get on the list too - they have a huge menu!! Can't wait! Thank you for the reviews! 🌺
A very unique breakfast plate with items that I've never seen on breakfast plates before such as a hamburger steak and soup and fried shrimp. It looked delicious. And I'm not a breakfast person but I would give that a try
reminds me of school lunch with the rankings you´d have ¨hot lunch, cold lunch, and then the fries (The best one of all until they ¨got healthy¨) we like the orange juice from Japan its so good! Monday i´ll have to get some ...
Reminds me of Hawaii too! I wonder why they have some Mexican influence in Okinawa? Thanks for letting us relax with you, Gentleman, as usual. I liked this retro feel too.
This was very entertaining, and educational for me as well. I'd like to point out that the divergence between the sign and what the taxi driver understands is only in the English sign; the Japanese sign below it clearly says "Jakkee's suteiki hausu." An example of divergence--I've lived in NYC for most of my life, I don't think I have ever heard anyone use "Avenue of the Americas" for "6th Avenue" no matter what the signs say. But the most extreme example is in Chicago, where I attended the University of Chicago. The favorite student bar is universally known as "Jimmy's" after its late owner but that name does not exist in written form as signage or on the menu board inside--absolutely nowhere. The signage outside says "Woodlawn Tap" but refer to it by that name, and I guarantee you will get blank looks from most people.
Pokemon celebrated the opening of a Pokemon Center in Okinawa with a cute animation with a growlithe. Would like to visit a Pokemon Center one of these days 😅
The Sea Side Drive In was influenced by the military after the war. Their specialty soup was based on the American cream soup and as Okinawa is so adept at doing they made it their own.
Hi, I'm new subscriber and been bingewatching your videos... hope you guys keep healthy and happy so you can make more videos and beautiful tasty trips... ganbatte!
Once you get over the fact that the tacos in Okinawa are NOT going to be like "authentic" tacos, you'll realize they are excellent... my favorite Okinawa style tacos: Senor Taco, King Taco, Tacos-ya
Those tacos look very much like the type of taco I would make at home here in the US, or you would get at an a place like Taco Bell. Not at all authentic Mexican, but Mexican filtered through American tastes.
The taco meat balls look good, but i be they’d be even better if you had some salsa and sour cream or guacamole to dip them in.. yummy! 😋 Excellent video as always, but i really enjoyed this one even more. Maybe because I’ve had a very bad luck day...and this was my highlight. Made me forget about all the crud i dealt with from morning to evening.. LoL I will be checking out that steakhouse and Jef’s when I’m in Okinawa!!!! Everything looked extremely delicious. ✌🏻 💕 😊
ALOHA Shinichi and Satoshi LOVE seeing You again was wonderful seeing you home in Hawaii with Amanda And Filex Foodie Ohana enjoyed your memories lane too. LOVE and GOD BLESS You All ALOHA Always Aunty Chrissy Honolulu Hawai'i 😙⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘💙💙
This is great! I used to live in Okinawa so very natsukashi! Hope you will get to try the famous spit roasted garlic stuffed chicken somewhere on the coastal road nr Nakagusuku Castle. Hopefully it's still there. Yummy!!
I've been to that same Jet back in 2016. Too bad you didn't get the goya burger, it's really good. I had to get the goya burger because I don't know of any other place that has it. Mahalo for this video!
Hey Guys! GREAT video! I went to Okinawa in June 2011 and really want to go back....just not in June (too hot)! I miss the food, the people, the beaches, and yes, the scenery! If not for the Japanese signage and little cars going in the opposite direction, I'd swear I was in Hawaii! To me, Okinawa is like if Japan and Hawaii had a baby. While the food is not authentic local Hawaii food, much of what we eat in Hawaii okazuyas are very much Okinawan in origin such as the thick, sweet tempura, shoyu pork, and stir fry dishes with Spam.
(A) lunch set looks SO GOOD. BUT, damn...who is eating that much for lunch and then going about their day ??? I would eat it and take a nap, or have a whole 2nd meal for dinner.
Hey shinichi you ever had the bbq fries in varsity at L&L? Do they have that tariyaki fries in Tokyo? Reason I ask because I remember fries being in that paper packet
A lot of the good old time restaurants in Hawaii were owned and ran by Okinawan immigrants. Hawaii saimin is very similar to okinawa soba. Good teriyaki meats always had a Okinawa origin.

Taco Meatballs actually sounds sort of amazing. Who ever came up with that idea is a hero.
Such a mixture of food. Sounds like a lot of fun!
LA native here! Those tacos remind me of an iconic institution we have called Tito’s Tacos
The food looked amazing 🥰 Thankyou for another great video
Now I want to go to Okinawa
Looks lovely!
Drive In Hawaii was definitely nostalgic Yummy Jackie's steak. Satoshi, my mouth watered watching you eat. Thanks Shinichi and Satoshi.
I loved this video! I really liked the old school look of all of the places you went to! You must be stuffed! lol
Old fashioned places are very nice. :)

Gotta admit, this was the perfect video to watch while I enjoyed my Morinaga pancakes. Hahaha

That plate looks way better than any diners in the U.S. it's breakfast , lunch and dinner combined.
Well, we have some pretty good plate lunches in Hawaii! Just as a comparison
reminds me of school lunch with the rankings you´d have ¨hot lunch, cold lunch, and then the fries (The best one of all until they ¨got healthy¨) we like the orange juice from Japan its so good! Monday i´ll have to get some ...
Club house sandwich LOVE it.😙❤⚘

beautiful bento!!
I like the old skool style of that place!!! 👍🏻🤙🏻
My mouth is watering
It looked like chow hall food. It takes me back.
月2回くらいにシーサイドのタコスボールとスープ食べに行きます😁🤙タコスボールおすすめ🥇
Pokemon celebrated the opening of a Pokemon Center in Okinawa with a cute animation with a growlithe. Would like to visit a Pokemon Center one of these days 😅
They all looked delicious, but for me the hamburgers are the best👍😋🍔
Okinawa looks like it has such good food! If only it wasn't on the opposite side of the world from where I live!
There's a taco restaurant in my city called Tako, so I'm pleased to hear Japan has long been on the reverse of that pun.
I'm curious, which city?
Orion beer is the best!!!! You need to to check out the Orion Beer Festival !
The Sea Side Drive In was influenced by the military after the war. Their specialty soup was based on the American cream soup and as Okinawa is so adept at doing they made it their own.
It actually isn’t that great, it should have more mushrooms or clams or whatever’s in it, it can’t make up its mind lol

King Taco in Nago baby!!! I became acquaintances with the owner! Great couple and a cute son named Yoshi! Lol
I been there i love it
A'hoy matey! Looks like ya found yer self some mighty fine vittles there!
You can pretty much put “deep-fried something” in front of me for breakfast, and I will never complain.
Wow, the Hawaii restaurant knows how to make a plate of food...
The taco meat balls look good, but i be they’d be even better if you had some salsa and sour cream or guacamole to dip them in.. yummy! 😋

Hawaii way with the scrambled eggs I think is shoyu?

The egg was cooked perfectly imo.
“Reminds me of old Hawaii””Hawaii of the 80’s.” Old? I had already graduated from college in the 80’s. Way to make me feel old……
