The ”ethno” in this is more old swedish folk music :) The instrument you’re hearing is a nyckelharpa (Swedish: [ˈnʏ̂kːɛlˌharːpa], "keyed fiddle", or literally "key harp", plural nyckelharpor) is a traditional Swedish musical instrument. It is a string instrument or chordophone. Its keys are attached to tangents which, when a key is depressed, serve as frets to change the pitch of the string. I reaaaally would want to hear you react to classical swedish choir music, like Kung liljekonvalje! :D
@@satanihelvetet Yea! Mungiga is called Jew's harp in english, also known as jaw harp, mouth harp, gewgaw, guimbard, khomus, trump, Ozark harp, Galician harp, or murchunga, is a lamellophone instrument, consisting of a flexible metal or bamboo tongue or reed attached to a frame.
I think it must have been a swede with a limited knowledge of the english language who wrote the english explanation to "Nyckelharpa" on wikipedia. Reason. He or she is using the word tangent to mean the same thing as in swedish, which is not right. The english word for "tangent", as well as "nyckel" is "Key". See the connection? A keyed fiddle is called that because you are using keys (tangenter) attached to the strings to play it.

What you heard at the start is called kulning. It was the way the women at a fäbod called in the cows (and goats!) for the evening milking when the cows roamed the hills and forests in the summer, basically fending for themselves except that they stayed at the fäbod at night, and got milked morning and night. It is a way to make sound with your voice that uses a special tecnique, which, I am told, is a tough job.
This song take me back to my chidhood! I can hear nyckelharpa, hurdy gurdy and even mouth harp/jews harp in the background! All three instruments can traditionally be found in traditional nordic folk music.
What the song's missing is a crowd of people drinking beer and just dancing and singing(shouting) along with song! :D As you say it has no soul, I think people singing along to it makes the soul. It is maybe not the best song, but people love when it's played at like local pubs, a midsumer party and of course at football games! Everyone knows that in the chorus, after "Jag ska älska dig tills hjärtat slutar slå..." you shout "OCH VI HATAR AIK!" to the beat. I guess AIK-supporters don't though :P Thanks for the reaction, love this channel! :D
This song is sooo nostalgic for me. Me and my best friend did a dance to it when we were eight. I think that the problem is that it hasn’t aged well, the 2000s-pop isn’t doing it any favours.

Ethno doesn't have to be non-western nessecarily, just culturally connected to some traditional folk music, in this case the ethno is Swedish. It can absolutely be cultural appropriation if you do it to other ethnicities than your own, but not if you do it to your own herritage. It's a complicated concept however because a lot of the times it is used to describe something forreign to your own culture from an outsiders perspective. People sometimes uses it to describe all music with cultural undertones that differ from "western culture" whatever "western culture" really is since there's a lot of different cultures in the western civilisations.
