1:24 Dear Only Desi, streetlighting, in its electric form (arc lamps and incandescent bulbs), was already prevalent in England by the 1870s itself. And because Devdas was set in and around Kolkata, a British colony at that time, it is plausible that streetlights were present in that region. Also, the design of the lamps were similar to the late 1800s streetlight design, so it all fits in. All in all, I'm saying that streetlighting is plausible in the early 1900s.
Devdas family didn't live in Calcutta, they lived in a village called taslonapur which was near to Calcutta. After devdas quarrel with his father he goes to Calcutta and meet chunni babu. In the book, devdas didn't go to London he had gone Calcutta for his education.
@@RoyalBenjamin-wb1ge ok, I think I misrepresented the whole "Kolkata" thing, but what I meant was that the aesthetic design of the streetlamps in this movie was period accurate to the late 1890s-early 1900s period, right in time for this setting. Sanjay Leela Bhansali had done his homework in representing this period piece, and we should give him credit for that.

I'm so happy you noticed the foreshadowing in Bairi Piya! It is very obvious but most people don't even notice that it's the whole plot of the movie in 10 seconds.

We afghans always add some romantic melodies from Indian cinema to our wedding clips. For my aunts wedding they used the heartbeat theme and another from Kal Ho Na Ho. The music of Kal Ho Na Ho is incredibly beautiful and timeless.
I always have this thought, that in Candramukhi case, she's not actually "fall in love" with Devdas, nor she's truly attracted to him. One thing that really makes her drawn to him is her admiration toward Devdas love for Paro. It's fully logic for me, because when you lived like someone as Candramukhi who being seen only as an entertainment for man at that time, you used to saw them lust after you and all, you'll become somehow thirst for something more "pure". In this case, Devdas love for Paro is something very rare in Candramukhi world. That's why she's desperately cling to him. Because she wants someone to love her as much as Devdas loves Paro, and at that moment only Devdas the only "decent" man she knows who could gives that kind of love.
