    Author: Johann Jakob Rambach (1693 - 1735)
    Composer: Christian David Palmer (1811-1875)
    Lyrics:
    1. What glorious state, to be a lamb of Jesus,
    To feel the faithful Shepherd’s loving grace.
    In all the earth there is no higher standing
    Than this--to follow in the Saviour’s ways.
    What all the world could never give,
    A lamb of Jesus from its Shepherd will receive.
    2. In pastures green the sheep will find its pleasure;
    To quench its thirst the purest fountains flow.
    No human eye the grace can ever measure
    Which He in richest fullness does bestow.
    A peaceful life the sheep will spend
    In everlasting pleasures that will never end.
    3. The lamb abides in this good Shepherd’s keeping;
    Though all the depths of hell in anger roar,
    No raving wolf shall pluck it from His bosom;
    It trusts in Jesus’ might forevermore.
    It rests in blest security,
    And in the vale of death, the Lord its shield will be.
    4. All who would live and spend their days in comfort
    Should come and draw unto this Shepherd nigh;
    With heav’nly bread He’ll satisfy their hunger,
    Which worldly husks can never satisfy.
    No lack of blessings there shall be,
    Since to God’s treasures He, the Shepherd, has the key.
    5. Yet this is but the foretaste of the fullness
    Of the joys to follow in eternity.
    The Lamb’s elect shall feed on heav’nly pastures,
    With waters from life’s stream supplied shall be.
    Then shall be fully manifest,
    How happy is a lamb of Jesus and how blest.
