Israel: "Have no fear, we have moved the borders."
I love these witty remarks.
Jingles, I've been a long time subscriber and I've wanted to tell you a story of my grandfather.
he was a USN pt boat gunner on a dual 40mm borfors cannon and was escorting a couple of dd's and 2 troop transports (with the small flotilla of pt boats as well) when he was attacked by a6m5 zero kamikazes.
when 1 headed towards his ship the gunners opened up and his gun jammed. he opened the breach, threw the shell overboard and reloaded then hitting the zero right up the middle of the engine setting it ablaze. the zero ends up spiraling down and splashing down right next to the boat with a massive water column.
lucky bastard he was. unlucky tho that he died in my 9th birthday.
+luketfer Another Furry spotted, Nuke is required
+Pandemic4444 (Bofors, not Borfors) :)
That's a really cool story :D
My grandad was in the Royal Navy during WW2 as well. Now he's gone I regret not asking him more about it :(
+mitchell mccormack lucky and unlucky
+Pandemic4444 Nice story :) Theres a story in my family about my grandad (he died before i was born) fighting in the Pacific of WW2, he came face to face with a Japanese soldier and for a brief moment they looked into each others eyes, hesitant... then my Grandad drove his bayonet into the guys stomach and pulled his trigger. Pretty grim stuff but it was him or the other guy i guess.
He was pretty psycho in the 50's and 60's, i guess the trauma of war made him a very 'difficult' person. My dad has a box photo frame with his medals in, an Africa star, Europe star, Asia star, and about 3 others which i don't remember.
History classes with Jingles...wouldnt that be an idea for a new series?
Do one about the Leopard 2(maybe 1 too) The Challenger and the M1A1!
he did the challenger already, i need the t-64 or t-90 tho
+Raz0rking seconded
+ZefuqZ what about all the iconic tanks ingame. The Leo2 as the best (my opinion) tank around. the challenger 2 as the best armored tank around. The M1A2 as....idk. The tank with most combats etc..
+Raz0rking So the T-90 is not iconic?
ZefuqZ that is why i have written etc. I do not know much about the T-90
Jingles, you fail to see the CLEAR advantage of the MK. 6! A camo net that makes it's turret SEEEEXY!!! And it's on the gun too!!! *achieves orgasm*
tank porn.
Penetration
+János Kaszás Who asked you?
+János Kaszás Take your hate elsewhere, this is not the place for it.
+KiwiHelpgeek that idiot literally made an account to comment...kek. pathetic-
So, Leyland demostrating their "quality" workmanship just like their cars. At least they were consistently crap :)
As about 50 people have said already, Iran is not a Arab country. just as much a England isn't Pakistan, iran isn't a Arab state.
+DaAnrgyPersian Try hanging around in Birmingham, Bradford, Oldham or Slough and say that :)
+DaAnrgyPersian its an islamic state
+Lucky buuuuuuuuuurn
+DaAnrgyPersian But Yes, Saying Iran is Arab, or one of the Arab countries Iranian is a sure fire way to get into a conflict
Voron Agrrav Just imagine the amount of hate he would get if he said Japan and China are the same, oh and greetings my Jewish brother (you have a Hebrew name, correct me if I'm wrong)
What's funny is the Soviets designed the T-64 in response to this tank, and gave it composite armor... and a highly advanced 115mm smoothbore, and... wait for it... better gunnery optics than the chieftain, in addition to hunter-killer capability (the commander can lay a separate gun sight on a target, so when the gunner finished engaging the previous one, the gun would, in theory, already be aimed)
I dont suppose we can get some M1A2 Abrams love?
19:12 Well... By the time the Chieftain Mk V had entered service so had the T-64A and the latter had certainly better protection against HEAT than unmodified Chieftain Mk V's.
And the armour slopping while very usefull in the 60's became dated with the introdcution of improved AFSDS, which Stillbrew addons weren't that good at countering.
That is one sexy tank... I dont even play AW but this tempts me... つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Gib...
+SilentSnip3rXVG well ofcourse he's going to play it if he gets this tank
+WeBe (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ
+SilentSnip3rXVG and his last words are it tempts him so errr he does intend of using it FCUKTARD!
you keep dreaming of this sexy tank WeBe!
+WeBe Try it, I did and I have all ready tiers 7...
Good bye World of Tanks...........Hello AW :)
OK be useful and give your wot account 😊
+castro hd11 I wouldn't give it if it has some extremely rare tanks and a large number of tier 10s. Unless someone was willing to buy it :P
+CynCellArby14 LOL I was just kidding :)
oh i thought the same thing 1 year ago until AW reched 0.15 and the game killer 0.16
LOL. Good work sir. Politicians building tanks, gotta love it. As an aside, I had an MG Roadster that had a silver plated sign mounted on the dashboard that read, "All parts falling from this vehicle are of the finest British manufacture." Cheers from Texas.
This video is a perfect example of why Bovington wants you to do tank talks. I swear i could listen to you for hours.
Hey Jingles, it was actually Leonardo Da Vinci that invented the tank. The British were just the first to actually build one and use it for war. Of course their design was a newer version using the much better technology they had at the time, but it was still Leonardo Da Vinci that thought of it first.
Drawing something isn't the same as inventing it, inventing it actually involves creating the technology to make it a reality. I drew a spaceship when I was a child, doesn't mean I invented it.
+Vis He drew a picture of something that wouldn't have even been able to work. If all it takes to "invent" something is to draw a picture, regardless of the actual practicalities of it, then I must've invented thousands of spaceships and planes when I was 5-10 years old.
Siobhan 13 "Invent" - "create or design (something that has not existed before); be the originator of:" You were not the first one to draw or have the idea for a spaceship, so no you didn't invent it, someone else already had.
Pixar Lamp He drew it wrong on purpose as a form of security, in case his design was stolen and used irresponsibly.
Vis I'm not talking about the faulty gears I'm talking about the fact that a machine of its size and weight literally could not be moved since it was designed to be operated by men.
+Vis: Da Vinci's vehicle was a siege weapon, the vehicle was built with four wheels so it actually makes it the first armoured car (kind of)
My grandmother made the engine hoses for these!
Then she didn't do a really good job, did she? ^^
+Cédric Möhlmann Haha, true, she only fitted them, not physically make them :)
+ThatHappyGamer Explains why the engine was so shit. Ayyyy lmao.
+AnEnglishBean Probably, it was the 60s, everyone was high and drinking.
ThatHappyGamer That is true.
Hey Jingles. The history background of the tank was very interesting! I agree with others here I think you may be on to something. Bringing us more Armored warfare footage in the form of a history lesson. Therefore bringing the audience more in tune with the game and the real life version of the tank. I look forward to your next history class. Well done Sir.
Quite enjoyed the way you did that historical introduction, Jingles. 2 thumbs up from a History undergraduate student!
I don't even play the game, I just enjoyed the soothing talk about the 50+ ton killing machine. Thanks again Jingles...
Love how you put a little bit of history in your videos. Thank you.
Indeed the chieftain is a beautiful looking tank but as a car person part of me hates it because it's made by Leyland in the 60's. If I wasn't mistaken, Leyland was in it's worst state in the 60's and the workers were in the middle of a strike.
+Wiseguy7 So was its engine. :-D
+Vojtěch “Mortis” Ptáček lol
+Wiseguy7 Actually it was worse in the 70's. But tbh it was never good at any time. They where mad as a bag of badgers expecting anything good to come from that plant.
While watching your vid, I keep clicking the left mouse button to fire, but the video pauses. (lol) Thanks for your dedication and time to the community Jingles. Two thumbs up.
Unfortunately my dad died last year of cancer because he was a tank commander in the 11th Hussars and was one of the first to use the Chieftain with them. Told me so many stories he had driven armoured cars and centurion. He loved the Centurion but while he liked parts of the Chieftain the engine was a nightmare. One story he told me was his commander reckoned they would just have to move the non working ones and place them in the pre made postions.
the best part of time zones is I can start my day with jingles.. and tea of course.
Your research is awesome Jingles. Worth watching for that alone.
Love the way tou give the history of the tank in these videos please do more of them.
Ah, I think I know which book Jingles used for this video
That "T104" is a typo IMO, it should be "T140" the gun from the US medium tank project T54
+Legiondude He is Jingles, and Jingles can be very smart at one time, or experience Jingles Derp Moments at another.
+Legiondude let me guess it's the Chieftain Osprey book by Simon Dunstan such errors are pretty much what I'd expect from him. The Chieftain books by George Forty or Rob Griffin are far better.
Jingles I am really enjoying these videos on the AW tanks, Can you continue doing some of these "history lessons" in some of the less well known tanks or perhaps tank lines. Cheers
Not that Plastic Tank game again...
No, it's not World of Tanks, thats AW
+Sam Host This is not world of tanks, this game is more balanced and less corrupt.
+Sam Host nothing beats tankie online
+kevin wolthuis more balanced😂😂
willyboxe7 I don't see people one shotting eachother in AW :P Or 1 tank dominating a whole game. Why do you think carying a game is possible? Because it's unbalanced.
The maps. are very balanced in W.o.T... something AW could work on bigtime.
Loved to hear the story of the Chieftain, very nice video Jingles!
Greetings from across the pond!!! Jingles, great job on the video as always. Love the history lessons that you include in your videos. Maybe you can do in the future a few more with that "Bloody boat game" :P
I so love it when jingles does history on the subject at hand
I love when jingles does history of the tank or ship he plays it's so cool hearing the feats of Valor people did in them
Cheers Jingles, I've really enjoyed these videos like this one and yesterday's on the 109 where you've included a bit of a history lesson mate :-) Thanks!
I was a Chieftain crewman from 1983 till 1988 and a D&M Instructor and I can tell you that the L60 was fine if used regularly
Very interesting and enjoyable video. I wonder if the bible would be more interesting if we had Jingles reading it? Until now I have not seen an uninteresting video from you. Love the knowledge you give us every week. Keep the videos coming!
Great video Jingles. I think it would be awesome if you made more videos like this telling everyone about the history of a tank.
I think jingles could host a history channel the way he describes things! Jingles do a history show!
The thing people are ignoring about the engine upgrades is the fact that the hit points of the engine also increase. In EA the UI had the increase in hit points included
From the other side of the pond, love your videos, looking forward to more as always (plus that history shit with the tank museum...ooh can't wait).
Best wishes from the other side of the pond:)
Jingles, could you please do a montly or weekly series where you take a vehicle, wether that be a plane or tank (or ship), put some WoT/AW/WT/WoWs gameplay of that tank/plane/ship in the background and just talk about its history, like you did in this video or your recent Bf 109 video? I really enjoy these and I learn a lot from it too. I think a lot of people would enjoy it
Once again an amazing video with that excellent history lesson on the tank! Thanks so much Jingles and good luck to all on the contest!
Another advantage of the bagged charge ammunition that you didn't mention was that inert ammo, such as ap, could have the projectile "lap loaded" (i.e. the loader could have the next round of ammunition in his hands or lap so he could put the new round into the gun as soon as it was fired, this couldn't be done with single piece ammunition because it was considered too dangerous)
Yay! Another Jingles history lesson! Love to learn the history of war machines while listening to his voice.
Really interesting and well presented history lesson on the tank made up for it being yet another pve AW video.
Enjoyed the video and info, but you're gonna have to do something about that intro music. I've said it before and I'll say it again, "My Boy Willie", Regimental March of the Royal Tank Regiment would express much more character for a tank, that despite it's poor engine, clearly has a place in many hearts.
Jingles you still make history fun to listen to
As a Canadian Tanker in the 80's in Germany an going to gun camp with out sister reg the 7 an 21 Lancers an playing with the Chieftain. What a pig it was to matain but one hard hitting tank. Thanks an keep up the good work.
Jingles voice is perfect for story telling! :D
Thank you for your vids, I especially enjoyed this one for the back story detail.
Jingles, you forgot to mention that the Chief. Mk6 Leader also comes with a level 5 crew right from the start ;) It also has the Improved FCS for improved aimtime and NOT the inter medium engine. It could be that the engine simply carries the wrong name or shows the acceleration.
So I paused the video and went to the link you mentioned... As you said to me mr Jingles, That is the power of your voice! or just my greedy mind just want that tank :) Anyway thank you for your job!
People always say that the cruiser/infantry setup of tankery was proven bad. It wasn't, and it's what we use today, we just call them different names.
Unless our 75 ton armoured bricks and our 8 ton armoured recce tanks are just variations on a theme?
took me way to long to realize this wasnt a World of Tanks Video.
I was just finishing up the latest Mingles with Jingles episode with Jingles mentioning a video about the Chieftan, low and behold, go back to his videos and notice the new video.
On the topic of the Chieftan, it would be sexy in my book, if the turret was symmetrical...
thanks for the information on the chieftain, always like the jingles history lessons and wouldn't mind hearing them a bit more. Seems like i know more about British tanks now though than other nations though :P
Sure the Chieftain had the best gun of its day, but the best armour? The T-64A's armour was much thicker (the Chieftain's upper glacis was 85mm thick not 120mm). Plus with the introduction of the 125mm BM-22 APFSDS round it could the Chieftain a run for its money in firepower as well.
+Alex Shakeshaft The T-64 should be a fairly good tank, that it doesn't get its 125mm gun in the game is quite comical, as the gun was one of the things that made it special at the time.
Well, the T-64 in AW is more of a prototype than anything, using the same gun as the T-62. The first variant that saw any real service IRL was the T-64A, with a 125mm gun.
+Alex Shakeshaft Yes, but that makes it more the Object 432 and not a T-64 really, and as we have quite a few Soviet oddities from the design stage, they could have at least included an historical T-64 somewhere, even as a premium. The other massive oversight is that the game has entirely missed out one of the best ever Cold War tanks, the Centurion in all its marks, which given 50 years of frontline service around the globe with many armies, is absurd in a game covering this period. The later marks certainly should have at least one representative, due to service in the Arab - Israeli Wars alone.
Well, they are adding the Centurion at some point, we just don't know when.
+Nyctasia I mean look at World of tanks the russian mediums get 100mm guns and not the 115mm guns they actually had so not surprised the T-64 doesn't get the 125mm.
That whole multi-fuel fiasco is quite baffling to me. Diesels will already run on just about anything you dump in the tank. I had to make a cross-state drive to pick up a friend in my 89 Ford, has a 7.3l naturally aspirated indirect injected V8 diesel engine. However I had very little money at that moment and gasoline was nearly a buck cheaper than diesel per gallon. So I put in 4 gallons of gasoline, mixed it with the 3 gallons of diesel that was still in the tank, and then proceeded to pour in a couple of gallons automatic transmission fluid that I had lying around from a transmission swap that I performed on a 73 IH 1210 pickup. Added some two-stroke motor oil, only a few ounces to help lubrication, and finally some clean 5w20 left over from an oil change on a Volkswagen Jetta to bring the flash point of the fuel back up to high value. Truck didn't give a damn, made the trip out there, picked up my friend, and he paid for the diesel fuel on the way back.
Diesels will run on straight motor oil, and atf. If you think I'm kidding, look up diesel runaway. It happens when the seal in the turbo-charger goes bad and the motor oil that was being used to lubricate the turbo starts getting sucked into the intake. Multi-fuel engines are overly complicated, and get grumpy when you mix fuel types. Diesels just don't give a shit.
Good vid as always Jingles, very informative.
This was fascinating to listen to and was very well researched. Now I know everything I need to know about my favourite tank
Quick thing, since Jingles didn't mention it in this video (at least I don't think he did): The Chieftain and all of the Challenger tanks did not have shaped charge ammunition. This was down to them using rifled, and not smoothbore guns. The rifling meant that often the charge would not fire properly, and be a less effective projectile. Instead, they used a high velocity ammunition called "Armor Piercing Fin-Stabilizing Discarding Sabot". If you're unfamiliar with the term "sabot", here's the wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabot .
Again, excellent review. This is the way forward Jingles
I love this history stuff! Keep up the good work.
BBC needs to call Jingles and have him do a History of the World's Tanks documentary.
+Andrew Hinton "alternative" history))
oh Jingles, never stop the history lessons
You should do more history of tanks! very informative.
Jingles you said that for its time the cheiftan was the best armed tank of its time. I do not know of the exact time periods but wasnt the american build M103 in service at the same time as cheiftan because it was also armed with a 120mm gun. Maybe review the history of that tank next? It dosnt have that interesting of a history but the marines sure loved it!
Thank you jingles for the history class
I am busy with the Chieftain grind at the moment. I must say the gun dep together with the turret armor makes it amazing.
Great Video Jingeles! Very nice and informative.
Just because armored vehicles had heaters in the 70's, didn't mean they worked. I remember that being an issue at Graf in 78, those who had working heaters had it made.
Jingles video at 4 am? Sure, why not! Sleep is for the weak.
Loved the historical info! I'd love to know where you got that info, my only source for modern tanks is very biased towards the West (calls the T-72's autoloader "unreliable") and while having nearly three pages on the Centurion, has just a few paragraphs on the Chieftain and doesn't mention the bad engine at all. Thanks for making me realize how bad multi-fuel engines are as well!
During Reforger in 1978, I was sitting behind the 50 cal machine gun on my M-113 in a small town, while my platoon mates were scrounging for fresh bread and beer. We were a scout platoon from the 3d Armored Division in West Germany. All of a sudden, three Chieftains and their support vehicles came down the road. It was a sunny day and the crews were all laying on the top of the tank as they drove along, The driver had to be in the tank, not sure if the commanders were. They pulled up and said your dead mate. They had an umpire there, and I said to him they were all out of their vehicles getting a sun tan, I had my weapon manned, and I killed them all. The umpire agreed with me and I got credit for wiping out the column. In real life, yeah, I was jumping off that APC and running down the alley. lolz, such is war games during peace time.
Apparently, a Chieftain was once ran on paint in a controlled environment, it didn't run very well after this though...
About one being called "Mark 5" and the other being called "Mark 6", they just picked 6 as the next number up from one. Both tanks in game end up as Mark 11s.
plus we got a history lesson, jingles, you never let me down XD
Loving these infomatic videos, the Challenger (1) video was particularly interesting. Any chance of any more? Maybe the Scorpion Light Tank to keep the British theme rolling? :P
16:06 That VBL is hauling some serious ass.
:( please do some pvp video, i liked learning the history of the cheiftan, but i barely know what aw pvp is like, you are the only treadhead youtuber i watch :(
But...what about the Leopard 2?
YOU CAN'T TEMPT ME, JINGLES! You'll never make me want a-ooooh....aaaah.
NO!
"Hell not even the Yamato has enough armor compared to the Challenger at its tier!" -Jingles (2016)
Brit Bias Confirmed
XD
Another history lesson with Jingles! yay!
Jingles you would be a pretty cool history teacher
oh Jingles ! humming rule Britania , yes its not a bad Tank , but the Leo is just more... well Panzer !!
Well you've finally convinced me, I'm now addicted to this game lol!
Jingles, if the Chieftain weighs 55 tons and has a 750hp engine, it should only have slightly lower specific power than the IS-3 which is about 50 tons and has a 700hp v12. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the L60 was an opposed 6 cylinder engine, with the pistons vertical instead of in a v configuration, which is kind of strange. Russian v12s are obviously going to have a lot more torque, which is a factor that people often ignore, so that could make up for the IS series being pretty well powered compared to the Chieftain.
Good luck on the give away everyone and thank you Jingles and Armored Warfare for the chance of winning one.
I was like "maybe I sign up for my 2 emails?" and then I was "shit, I rather do respect Jingles".
They should fill in that empty tier 6 slot with the Chieftain 800 or 900, would fit in perfectly
You remind me of my history teacher, allthough a bit boring at times still an awesome guy!
i can see i'm not the only one that have read the book: Chieftain Main Battle Tank 1965-2003.
May I ask where you receive the information for your vids such as these? Love the vids Jingles keep em rolling
Great video, M8!
God I LOVE history storytime with Jingles. Will you be my grandfather in 20 or so years?
@12:33 Aaah...you know a true British tank, made by British when it has a brewing compartment for tea or hot drinks.
"In the heat of the battle"
-Gunner: Oi, mate?! Is the tea ready yet?
-Radio operator: Hold on, I just poured the water.
-Commander: Belt up chaps, more are coming!
"A glancing hit on the tank, shakes up things causing the radio operator to spill the tea while about to pass it to the gunner"
-Radio operator: AHH! Bloody hell!!!
-Commander: Are you al'right?
-Radio operator: I'm fine, I just spilled the tea...
-Gunner: Bugger it.
O Jingles, listening to your history stories is like listening to David Fletcher's twin brother :)
Once again another well researched, informative video sir. Give yourself a pat on the back :)
Nice stuff Jingles. And good luck all.
Hey jingles you make me laugh so much. Keep up the good work.
History lesson from Mr Jingles.
Thanks for the interesting lecture, Jingles!
Great video Jingles !
