    I haven't seen the others yet but I very much like the consistency of the Schmincke ground.

    Thank you so much for sharing. You are the first Australian instructional on pastels that I have found. I am brand new to all of this and was given some pastels as a gift but the paper is so expensive so this video is very much appreciated thank you for your valuable time. Marie B from W.A.

      Oh wow Marie, so glad that you found this useful. I love sharing what I discover and very happy to answer any question you may have. I have quite a few videos on pastels and various other types. I even Livestream here and you ask me questions directly and join in the chat. Regards Chrissy 😀
      P.S. I'm from the East coast 😀

    Wish you would have done a light on dark test as that is so critical for fur. Also I know you don't do water soluble but with many pastels it's good to know if it can be mixed that way. Thank you for the video

    Looks to me like the Schmincke had the most even color distribution when the ink was applied and left no brush marks. Not to mention that hue was lovely!

      Michael is the process the same as Xrissart? Add a little water and 2 to 3 coats? Does Pan Pastel work well with the Liquidtex Clear Gesso? Thank you in advance. :-)

      Thank you for the video Xrissart! I have seen other vidoes on this topic, however, its the 1st video I have seen that Pan Pastels are shown too! That has been my question, and you have answered it. I am a beginning artist and I have been looking for an economical way to practice on less exspensive paper, but still get the layers I need.

      Certainly I know how expensive pastel paper is but these products are expensive too. I once tried gesso but it buckled the paper. It was thin paper, what paper do you use? Difficult not to say i like what i see and hear very much. Thank you.

    • @Xrissart
      @Xrissart  6 років тому

      Zuheyr Alsalihi thank you for your question. I use Watercolour paper and don't use anything less than 300gsm in weight. In many cases but not always, alot of papers are initially made from watercolour paper. I particularly like the idea of using ground on canvas and boards. Alot of artists use this to build up texture in their acrylic and oil paintings and mixed media projects. There is no right or wrong here with us Artists. The possibilities are endless. Thanks again.

    Do you need than fixative when the pastel drawing is finished?.

    • @Xrissart
      @Xrissart  5 років тому +2

      Hello Wilma, I personally don't use any fixative, it's all about the surface. Some artists swear by fixative, and then there's so many artists that won't touch it. However your painting requires careful storage to protect the painting. Thank Thank you so much for watching.

    Hi Chrissy! We talked before and I told you I would let you know when I got my Art Spectrum Colourfix Primer, what I thought. I was impressed with how easy it applied. I used watercolour paper and the colour I got online was Aubergine. (Due to price) It took both the panpastels and soft sticks pretty well. Certainly not like the wonderful pastel mat , but the price is certainly reflected in this. I am new to the medium so I can’t really say a lot but it is a definite alternative to buying the expensive pastel mat! Thanks for all the fabulous content on your channel and the beauty of your art.

      Hi there Cindy, thank you so much for reporting back. This method of making your own surface is definitely a great way of doing this on the inexpensive way. I would also like to see a project if you've created one on your surface, perhaps you can join our Facebook Group " Share Your Art with Xrissart" and post your work there.

    Great video! Very informative and wonderful information. I have tried the Golden and the Colourfix and was just curious if you have a preference out of the three you demonstrated. Or if you have noticed any distinct differences between the three. Thanks for sharing your video!

    • @Xrissart
      @Xrissart  7 років тому

      G'Day Amy, thank you so much for watching and appreciate your comments. Out of the three I tested here, I would go for the Schmincke and then the Colourfix. For me I think the Schmincke has the smoothest ground followed by Colourfix. I find the Golden is a much grittier ground which would be perfect for huge canvases and applying texture before painting. What I like about all of them is you can tint them any colour you like. So much versatility and so much potential. I go nuts thinking of projects that I can do with them. What are your thoughts on the Golden and Colourfix? I love sharing what I discover and always love to hear about what other people are doing. I'm always learning and if you start me talking about ART, I'll never finish!

    • @amylillich2768
      @amylillich2768 7 років тому

      Thanks for your response! I think the possibilities are absolutely endless. Out of the two, thus far, I have preferred the Golden, but I have only been putting on one coat and I think that may produce very different results. I often work on Uart paper and felt like the Golden gave me a similar grit. I am super excited to see what happens with 3 coats (I already have 1 coat drying 😂 ready to test it out). I have struggled with the grit being consistent and I think multiple coats may be the answer to all of my problems. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. I can't wait to watch some of your other videos!
