The best hire TN made hasn't been Heupel. It was A.D. Danny White. He has helped in every aspect of TN athletics. These are the results. I'm confident in every major sport we have.
You could go further and point toward plowman and Boyd. Or even further than say thank you to Jimmy haslam for getting out of the kitchen at Tennessee 😅
When I saw Heupel win a game with defense Saturday, UT got my respect and attention. That’s all that has held them back for several years. Now they are players for a championship. Go Dawgs
That match up in nov wont be like 2022. It will be a fight till the end of the 4th quater. Plus they could meet 2 more times now in sec championship amd cfp. That's crazy.
@joshwells3933 respect is the start. We may not like you guys, but we have respected you. Not fear, but respect. So, thanks from one fan base to another.
That was my takeaway. IMO he couldn’t protect Nico’s blindside because of injury so he showed discipline and did what he wasn’t comfortable doing and put faith in his defense to win for him. No one expected Tennessee to play conservative football. And the defense simply blew me away. We actually have defensive backs now! That’s been one of our biggest weaknesses. Thanks for the love. Can’t wait to play ya’ll! GBO🍊

Tennessee fans trust this AD and our coach 100%. They were ahead of the game with NIL, with hiring Josh, with navigating the sanctions masterfully. Tennessee roamed the desert endlessly for too long under the direction of administrators and coaches without the foresight or knowledge to the ever changing landscape of college football. It was never a question of talent on Rocky Top. UT always has DUDES, rather it’s been inept administration and coaches that were never in lock and step sharing one direction and one vision of what all Tennessee athletics deserves to be. Want to raise the ticket prices to acquire and keep more talent, I trust you guys. All the noise and hate is coming from other Universities that don’t want to adept or doesn’t have a fan base willing to do whatever it takes to never go back to mediocrity. The death of a fan base is apathy, and UT never lost the fire. We still showed up 100,000 strong singing Rocky Top at 140 dB. We are a hungry fan base, and Tennessee is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with again.

I 110% trust Heupel. My dad was getting mad that they weren't throwing it around and letting Nico shine. But I really thought about it. Seeing the injuries pile up, especially on OU's side due to players getting caught awkwardly or slipping on any break, I think he knew that letting the offense break out may lead to injures for our receivers or possibly Nico. I think Nico threw it 3 times in the 4th?? He trusted the defense to shut down OU, and we walked away with a 2 possession win *IN NORMAN AT NIGHT* .. The field conditions were TERRIBLE, and I really hope they get that taken care of before more players get hurt.
I actually agree with your dad albeit maybe in a different form. For me it wasn’t about letting Nico Shine, but more so about extending drives and killing more clock, because Oklahoma was still technically in it until their onside kick failed. I’d feel like opponents like Georgia, and Alabama would be more capable of taking advantage of the conservative play calling like that and make it incredibly uncomfortable for Tennessee.
@ave0828 That field was awful. I argued with an OK fan earlier. I said the field wasn't SEC quality, and they actually tried to defend the field. They said it was fine and we are on an SEC high horse. That was funny to hear. Absolutely horrible field.
I love the look of it. Of course I wanna see NCAA 24' long pass plays as a fan, but keep him confident and injury free we are champs this year. I have a trivial amount of money on it 😂
Every single person in that program is bought in. From the backups to the AD to the University. The "I gotta get mine" guys are sent away. It is awesome to have a defense and run game good enough to give Nico time to grow and improve in this offense. He is just getting started and he doesn't need to be elite every game to produce those wins
Great stuff JD one thing I would like to bring up is the development on the defensive line has been incredible phenomenal. That’s why everybody’s talking about us this year. My question to you JD is why have we not seen the same kind of development on the office line we were out to tackles is the main reason, we ran the ball the whole second half of the Oklahoma game because we only way to get beat is if we would’ve turned the ball go big damn orange 🍊🍊🍊

Feel very good about what’s happening with all sports at UT right now. Winning SEC all sports title 3 years in a row is hard to believe. Feel good about the coaching staff and players in place as well. Need to see secondary is improved when we play a team that tests them. Love your show. Best in the business.
Reality is players can use emotion to fuel physical prowess, while maintaining body control. However, coaches are not that way. Emotion that bleeds into a coaches mind doesn’t provide benefits physiologically. It provides liabilities mentally though. I think that’s why Josh is rock solid
There ain’t a team in the country that has us on their schedule this year whose coaching staff is genuinely looking forward to seeing us on the gridiron whenever that week comes to pass, & I can guarantee you that. With an elite defense now? Better watch out, it’s looking like a Vol dynasty being berthed right in front of our eyes 🥹
Not convinced we have an offensive line to win everything this year. They were totally exposed in that OU game. Nico’s best game was UTC and has diminished each game since. He still has his moments but I do not know if he is going to be consistent enough in big games yet.
I’m with you, I think we are still a year or two away bc of depth at safety and cb, and oline. I think we’re about to get some opportunities tho, we could have a berth in the playoff if they handle their business. It usually takes a couple steps before you reach the top of the mtn and we still got 1 or 2 left b4 the top.
Interesting question to discuss as a UT fan: By the time Josh Heupel retires, is Peyton Manning still a top 3 QB in UT history? Nico, Faizon Brandon, and hopefully many more dudes coming down the road.
Most physically gifted QB in Knoxville ever? You may not be old enough to remember Condredge Holloway, but how could you forget Tee Martin? Just as shifty as Nico but could still truck a DB if needed. And his arm talent? He could make all the throws, including setting the NCAA record for consecutive completions (23/23) in a game (and these weren't west coast check downs). And oh yeah, might have lead his team to a national championship.
Picture this: Tennessee goes 12-0. Beats 12-0 TEX in SEC championship. Goes to play GA in a rematch in the National Championship. Wins 42-6. The entire country will still say, “Tennessee hasn’t played anyone good” “GA is having a down year” “Alabama has brand new coach and is rebuilding”
i don't think beating oklahoma who had to get rid of their 5 star qb mid game really shows much their defense held tennessee in check and their offense is the worst it's been in 30 years. i don't think that win with the point OU is at right now means they can beat Texas Georgia Alabama Ole Miss at all
I’m with you there. He deserves his respect. He definitely gets it, but only when he’s brought up. It’s rarely unprompted, and after he wasn’t brought back with Pruitt being fired, he probably has a sour taste in his mouth for us. Kind of a similar situation with Josh Heupel and Oklahoma actually.
You do realize, the best QB in the OU Tennessee game was not Nico right? Nico and Hawkins posted similar numbers with Hawkins only playing half a game, in his college debut, down 16 at the half, behind maybe the worst o line in the power 4, with no starting receivers left in the game. Hawkins turned the ball over zero times, while Nico did twice. And out scored Nico head to head 12-6 in the half he played in. Tennessee posted similar offensive numbers against OU to Tulane. And even less production than Auburn this week so maybe pump the brakes a little on the Tennessee hype train. No telling what happens if BV and Latrell do what they should’ve after the Tulane debacle, and started Hawkins. Hawkins had a better camp than Arnold, they made the wrong pick for the Tennessee game at starting QB. Imagine Jackson Arnold not having started that game, and isn’t in there being the best player for Tennessee with three turnovers in the first half. Would’ve been a much different game. But Tennessee survived Norman this time. It won’t happen again.
