Your acoustic playing brings so much life to the guitar. Definitely some of the more musical playing I have heard in a review in a long time! Great review. Appreciate you taking the time to make it. Really think I’m gonna get one of these but in the 120w.
wow, i'm so impressed! just wandering around, trying to get a good acoustic amp at a decent price... in the beginning, i was leaning towards the fender acoustic junior, but then i discovered fishman mini loudbox and afterwards i bumped into your video. so now i guess this will be my choice :) amazing amp and possibilities! and, oh my, also learning that jon gomm was involved in bringing this beauty to life... thank you, and also kudos for your dadgads :)
Hey bro, Fabulous review! Amazing sound and playing! Anyway, I just bought the same amp but in brown (which I prefer) the sound is INCREDIBLE! Blew me away!! I didn’t plan on buying one until I saw one in my local pmt store here in Manchester, and asked for a demo play with a Taylor GS mini Koa plus, (which I also demonstrated and bought at the same time), and WOW! Blew me away! Truly superb! BOTH sounded stunning! Had my addicted! Had to buy both! Anyway enjoy, I also subscribed! Keep up the great work and thanks for the review! Confirming my decision!
Excellent review man.. SERIOUSLY.. close to going with one of these.. I’ll check out your other vids in a tick. Vocal demo would be good.. might do one myself as I think I’m convinced it’s the way to go haha
I was hoping it had a self programmable Impulse Response feature.... I really like the way a journeytek under bridgeplate pickup sounds (k&k mini alternative.. that I think don't better). When you make a impulse response of your own guitar, with one of these pickups, It's shocking how close you can get to a mic'd guitar sound without needing to use an internal or external mic... Especially in a mix. No quack... Lots of body and acoustic guitar sound dynamics.... Non-invasive in any acoustic guitar.... Almost indestructible too.
Thanks for the review. These amps are great, I played through one when trying out my new acoustic guitar. I really think I’ll get one, they sound so good. I agree re the Bluetooth reliability, Blackstar issued some dongles for their Id core amps and they were terrible. Other than that so many pluses for this amp!
I like this review. It seems like a fine product. I think the problem for [Blackstar] is that this is competing against the well-known -- and solid -- Fishman mini-loudbox. Fishman is the market leader here, and folks would find it tough to switch to Blackstar, I think.
So many good acoustic amps today. The AER brand still is the Rolls Royce of this style of amp. I use b-band transducers on my acoustics and get great sounds.
@@DAVEBLISS2007 AER are still fantastic amps, but I have found them to be a bit thin to my ears. I love that this amp has the hi-pass filter to really let the resonance of the instrument shine through. To each his tone
@ I own AER Domino 2 x 8” 120 watts and also Bugera AC60. The AER sounds bigger but is 14kg too heavy for easy mobility. The Bugera AC60 is only about 7kg in weight and sounds very good for vocals, backings and guitar. I use mainly a Crafter TCM035 (0M style guitar) with B-band pickup system. I think that Blackstar Sonnet is a good acoustic amp, Jon Gomm had help with design so should be a good sounding device.
Well done review, thanks for posting. I'm going to check one out as I am not happy with my Fishman Loudbox mini. Since the Blackstar only has reverb, I was wondering if you use any effects in front of the Blackstar, if so which ones.
Thanks for checking it out. I have a pedal board that I put in front of it. Only pedal that I have 'always on' is the TC Hall of Fame. The reverb on the amp is great but I love the HOF
Great review! I was wondering how well the 6 1/2" speaker reproduces vocals. 6 1/2" just seems too small for me for low end, unless a bass port serves the purpose. Would this single amp be an option for leaving the PA at home for gigs...? Thanks again for the review!
Great UA-cam channel. I am happy to subscribe :) I am glad that you did this review as I was curious about Jon Gomm acoustic amp for some time. In your opinion, can this amp tonaly compete with Bose L1 or Yamaha Stagepas 1K you have - for vocals and guitar? I know they both have more volume, but I am asking about the beauty of tone only. I am thinking of getting two Sonnet 60 amps instead of Bose or Yamaha. Thank you.
It reminds me of another very good acoustic guitar amp, that is the AER, from the Acoustic people. Which is used and highly endorsed by Tommy Emmanuel, who by the way plays Aus. made guitar Maton, which you no doubt already know because you're play his model Maton guitar. But the cost of the AER is very expensive. I do enjoy your playing.
Thank you for your excellent review. Question for you: I purchased this amp recently to sing and play my ukulele at senior residences. Do you think the sound it makes will be sufficient for a room of 30 to 50 people? Thank you.
I just wish they'd include a basic 2:1 compressor on each channel on these things. Vocals can always benefit from a little even if it's parallel. Currently I think only behringer offer it as a feature! Madness! Also where is the bloody tuner bypass button? Version 2 blackstar?
Well I have been running around UA-cam and Google and New Zealand trade me in circles looking for the best budget acoustic electric amplifier and after many many hours I ended up with this video and I have to say that this is not only the best review I came across but the amplifier offers the best for the money for my needs as an amateur very very amateur acoustic guitarist trying to learn the arts of DAW music production at a late age in life. I went to the rock shop New Zealand and have just purchased this along with some leads as I purchased takamine gd30ce 12 string acoustic electric guitar yesterday to try and start from scratch again as most of my channel was done under the influence of morphine and kidney cancer recovery LOL and yes me too I would have nothing but black because brown is just awful It's like something from Victorian times but thank you so much for your fabulous review it just told me everything I needed to know where is most other quote reviews were just people strumming away with amplifiers on different settings which didn't really tell me much at all. I started my acoustic debut off in the mid 60s when I attended Chiltern edge secondary modern school and the French teacher Miss Black insisted that me and Anthony Griffith went to the Henley-on-Thames folk festival to play 58 verses of Michael rowed the boat ashore and it was all downhill from that point !! I did a bit from John Pearse tablature book in the 60s but then life got in the way but here I am ancient on half a kidney just enjoying chilling out trying to do something I should have done when I was 19.. anyway have a great week and thanks very much The best review on UA-cam for sure !
Thank you so much for reaching out and sharing your story! I'm so glad that this video helped you make a decision. Best of luck with the 12 string as well, sounds like the perfect instrument for you. Next challenge: remember all of those verses!
Thanks. Can you offer any advice on pickup’s? Cheers. Ps. Do you anything about how Clapton gets his snappy acoustic sound? Pps you have a new subscriber.
I will be doing a video on my fav pickups later this summer. I have spent ages trying to get his snap. I'll do that vid on that as well! Thanks for the sub! 😊

Hello, thank you for great review ! I also ended up with Sonnet 60. I just have a question about those livestream or video via iPhones. I used the right adapter lightning, usb cable etc. But when I record video, the sound - audio is so quiet on my phone. Do you know why please ? :)
Great sincere review ,it made up my mind to pull the trigger and get one can't wait to receive it, you mentioned a gig bag for it and would post a link to where to source it ,it would be much appreciated if you could thanks again ps great guitar work.
Nice video. I just bought a Sonnett 60 and will use it for the first time at a gig tonight. My full band will be performing but I have that little Sonnett ready to go when I switch to my acoustic and its sitting right next to my custom Deluxe Reverb. Should be interesting. Thanks again.
@Nick Worley I didn't see the appeal to the Bose S1. I tried it before buying the Sonnet 60 and thought it was rubbish especially for the price. Sounded tinny and artificial.
@sitiimanina just the price really and possibly availability as I needed it sharpish. The sonnet has a few better features but I'm happy with the fishman. Little review on my channel if you're interested 👍
Wattage isn't a reliable guide to volume and audibility. As for 50/60W acoustic amps I've always favoured the 2x8" + tweeter arrangement; a single 6.5" speaker + tweeter doesn't inspire confidence. There are reviews that praise the Loudbox Mini but say it shows the strain at higher volumes. On the other hand, this little Blackstar unit seems to be the business. Wish I'd bought one rather than the Marshall AS50D, but I still recommend the Laney A-Duo as an all-rounder and especially for electric harp.
Does anyone know how these sound with later model taylors ? i bought a 214ce plus and have been looking for a amp for a while now. Was almost set on the fishman loudbox mini till i saw this.
Hi Joe, thanks for commenting and apologies for not including that. I realise I got a bit over-excited about the guitar aspect of this. Is there anything specific that you would like to know regarding how the vocals sound or would you like a separate video? Thanks again for checking it out!
@@lewisforemanmusic To be honest just your thumbs up that it cuts it live with the vocals. I've actually already bought one for my lad who's about to start gigging solo on smallish venues eg restaurants and small bars etc playing a Takamine so guess I was looking for an endorsement from an expert such as yourself. The fact you haven't said anything negative about the vocal aspect is good news indeed. I play drums so am not much help to him on the amp side of things but the amp did come highly recommended from my local music store and I trust them a lot. Can I say thank you for your prompt reply. Peace Joe.
Yes you could, but the sound wouldn't be great unless you have some form of processing pedal in front that's meant to go straight to a PA. I would say stick to amps designed for electric guitars instead of using this one
What do you think of Fishman mini's ? Or I heard the Roland cube street ex could also handle the load. I'm lazy just want a amp that could double without a PA. Thanks for your reply.@@lewisforemanmusic

It works great for smaller venues/cafes for up to about about 40 people. Any more than that and i'd use a bigger PA. All depends on the venue though!
