If anyone wants to see a band do a proper tribute to another artist, that person should watch this version of LAST IN LINE by LILIAC. You finally got to see Sam play a solo "with a few more bars" and everyone else in LILIAC just nailing their parts...including Justin, who has a very prominent role in this song. And best of all, MeloDia not only delivered superb vocals but her hand and arm gestures just brought the lyrics to life in 3D. And to make extra sure that everyone was aware of what this tribute was for, it debuted on Ronnie's birthday on July 10th, during a livestream in the afternoon (using this music video) and then again to end their show, LILIAC premiered LAST IN LINE live.
Try and tell me that wasn't the best tribute cover of DIO you've ever heard . You are correct the bass is prevalent throughout the song along with double kick bass drums , Justin complements with his keys and of course Sam kills his version of the solo . You are also correct that Melody is channelling RJ Dio in her performance . Like you I wasn't familiar with the original so I checked it out and was blown away with Liliac's interpretation of it . In the earlier tunes you reacted to, Ethan was new to the bass and Melody did a great job teaching him, but I'm guessing they may have let him be in the background a little just to take some of the pressure off. He's really mastered that beast now, and he's getting a lot more chances to stand out. And, yes, Mel is excellent at channeling RJD.
